I have a 2023 GLI and I love it! If you drive economically on the highway, you can easily break 40mpg in highway driving. Spirited in the city, I get 25. But the stock tires are garbage! Get yourself some good UHP all seasons, I got the Continental DWS06 Plus and the car is perfect! Nice video man!
@@VagabondBuilds wait till you find out we have nicer trim levels 😉 For instance the mk7 r top trim level in the USA was the entry trim level in Canada
That's NOT the GLI. It's the GLI Autobahn. The GLI does NOT have leather seats nor a sunroof. The GLI Autobahn does. Just saying, I'm currently debating between these models and it makes a difference 😎
I thought this was an excellent video, nice job. I went to my VW dealer last week and test drove the GLI Autobahn and the SEL. I ended up purchasing the SEL because 1) it had a softer suspension, 2) it was quieter, 3) in normal driving did not feel much performance difference and 4) it was about 5K less expensive.
I own a 40th - compared to Autobahn it loses sunroof, leather, Beats audio, power seat, illuminated vanity mirror, sunglasses holder. Some earlier '24 Autobahn apparently do not have DCC but all US 40th have it. 40th only comes in white/blue/gray and adds special badging, unique cloth seats, chrome key fob, black package, special wheels and a cool plaque mailed to your home. Mine also had first aid kit, all weather mats, trunk liner and break-down kit and stickered under $30k.
Sucks they did all that cheezy stuff on the gli interior. I wish I can get a gli with sel interior. Id also get rid of the red fake intakes. Or the sel should get gli performance parts
*It baffles me that they’re charging an extra $4,500 for the GLI, yet they’re skimping on features like navigation and rear seat vents!* It’s almost as if they’re deliberately push people toward SEL.
More cost for less? Plan and simple math that turbo etc ain’t worth the price increase. SEL Jetta has tons more tech etc. GLI should be including all that as well.
@@FaithfulJourney777 yeah, main reason why I went with the 2024 over SEL was the tech. I felt you get more for the price of the SEL than the GLI for its price. I guess personal preference. If the GLI had everything SEL had plus its engine/build I would have went with the GLI.
@@VagabondBuilds I have a Golf 1.8 TSI and it is quick and shifts so smoothly. I was given a Jetta loaner once with a 1.5 when my car was in for service. I couldn't believe the difference in power and overall performance! The engine groaned everywhere I went and shifted horribly. A car this size should never have an engine this small. I'm not expecting a speed demon but can't stand a car that feels like it's always struggling during operation. This isn't by far the worst though, I drove a Nissan Kicks as a rental and it was hands down the King of lack of power!
Right now I drive a 2007 GLI Fahrenheit manual transmission. I didn't choose this car; it was the only affordable used car when I needed a car quickly three years ago. Bright yellow? I asked myself? Not my style, but it has truly grown on me. I would hate to get rid of it now, and plan on either one of the models shown in this video for my next used car. The only thing I don't like about the honeycomb features are that they collect road dirt, and need a brush to get clean. Also, over time, they go gray with oxidation. Then you need a product like Armor All to bring them back to looking nice. So you might spray the honeycombing, but then it's annoying to get the product wiped clean in all those little honeycombs. I think I'll go with the SEL when the time comes. I love the Vienna leather. I would never buy one with V-Tex leatherette because it doesn't hold up. Looks nice and convincing when new, but it will crack and break in a few years time, especially the driver's seat. Thanks for this comparison video!
Would not pay more personally, drive both if anything spend less and get the gli, if you’re worried on gas put it in eco :) more compliments on the gli as well
I've owned two Jetta SEL Premiums. Great cars both. With the price point difference between the SEL and the GLI, you should also be getting navigation with the GLI. Also don't care for the "buttons" on the GLI. Moot point tho...I've got a 2024 BMW M240i that I bought in Dec.
One clear winner: The one that can (still) be had with a stick.
Yes!!!!! Have to agree!!!
Great great info.. thank you!🙏🏼
Glad it was helpful!

Appreciate the support really! Glad you like your car!
I have a 2024 GLI. I notice I get better fuel economy with premium 91 than regular 87. This is with winter tires actually.
Canadian GLI’s have heated rear seats. I just ordered a 2024.
Nice! Guess they are short asking us on the USA version….
It's cold up there, ah?
@@VagabondBuildsCanadian gli also has navigation 😅
Does Volkswagen still make the Jetter R line and if so, what is the difference between the R line and the GLI?
Yes, they now make GLI Autobahn and GLI 40th Anniversary.
We will try to make a video for that.
Thanks for watching.

That’s nice… we are getting less for our money in US.
Yes they do, it was a nice surprise to find out we got this :) Just got mine 3 weeks ago :) Enjoy yours my friend👏

The SEL needs a bigger turbo and performance tune imo. Although I bought it bc it’s economical, a guy eventually will want more power.
Haha than you loose the reason why you bought it haha.
@@VagabondBuilds fair enough, but we all eventually want more power, surely you can agree?

Well, 2 different GLI I believe, check the msrp stickers in the videos.

Does the sel have ambient lighting?
Comes with ambient lighting yes.
What’s the difference 40th anniversary and the GLI?
And why is that 40th anniversary GLI less money than the GLI?

Oh, interesting.
Ya, I'm also not a fan of the new style, including the "lipstick" fake intakes
I thought there was 6 trims cause of the gli autobahn
The autobahn is more of a package on top of the trim.
@VagabondBuilds makes sense I think lol
GLI. Bigger displacement on the engine. 1.5 is just to damn small. 😢
Many manufacturers are doing this…. I agree with you.

Interesting. Why do you think they might do this?
I’m insulted this guy is comparing an sel to a gli. Literally no comparison. GLI is better.
Others would have to disagree with you. Again, it all comes down to preference.
Yeah GLi is not worth it get the SEL
Why not?

The 1.5L is a horrible engine, talk about slow.
I mean, how much faster are you trying to get out of these cars?
