Thank You Gillis....You have created a wonderful show and channel!!! I have liked and subscribed. So far I have only watched 4 shows & I am looking forward to the entire content your channel has to offer. .. TM
First video of yours I have watched, great workmanship! Shame on the tear out but cudos on owning it, just a little reminder for years down the road for you to look back on at your beginnings! You got a new subscriber now time to binge watch the rest of your channel as it’s too cold for me to be working outside in my unheated shop, keep up the good work. Best wishes from Canada, stay safe!
On the off chance that anyone is reading comments on a year-old video: Ipe (this wood) is incredibly strong, it's also very toxic. If you're going to work it, wear a respirator. Treat it like purpleheart (it's actually nastier) or similar tropical hardwoods.
Gorgeous, and inspirational. The price of premium dovetail saws is, frankly, insane. This looks better, is personal and appears to be as efficient. Thanks.
Make a curf extender with a plate as thick as your sawcurf and the leftover piece of spine, you can use that to extend the sawcuts of half blind dovetails. Nice job btw 👍👍
You did a great job. After watching this video, I ordered the pieces to do the same. It is now 11 months since my order and no shipment or communication after repeated attempts. I do not recommend Blackburn Tools.
Sorry to hear that! I’ve bought from them twice now, but from a European distributor, not from Blackburn directly. I did read on their website that they have a large backlog, but they should still respond of course! I hope it works out for you eventually.
@@GillisBjork , Their statement of being months behind was 3 months after I placed the order (February 1, 2023). The warning notice was not present at the time. I can understand 2, 3, and even 4 months of delay, but 11 months without communication after sending multiple requests for updates (October, December, and January) is frustrating and cause for concern. I have requested my order be canceled, and money refunded, so we will see where this ends up.
Can't remember the brand name but there's pretty much only one company that still makes them, should be easy to find from any of the good hand tool retailers
@@GillisBjork From what I see: the jaws of the tool are held by the saw blade and the pin pushes the tooth to the side without going too far ... I think this part is very important since you made the saw from basic parts. This part of the process determines the smoothness and right direction of the cut. Some time ago I bought a cheap general purpose saw because I needed it at the time and it happened that when using it in deep cuts the saw would drift to the left and there was no way to make the cut straight. This tool of yours seems to me the correct one for its purpose. A few years ago, I saw a person who adjusted the teeth using only the pulse of the hand and the problem comes when some teeth are more inclined than others; this causes the saw to leave rough marks and drift to the left or right. I think you achieved the smoothness and right direction of the cut. Thanks for uploading your video it was very informative.
That's a great saw and a wonderful heirloom a tool to be extremely proud of
Nothing more rewarding than making your own tools

Härligt med äkta hantverk! Tack!👍😃
Such a great looking saw! This was the video that I needed to be comfortable in making one. Cheers!
Hello Gillis, you can be proud. It has become a very beautiful tool.

Once again, a VERY nice job Sir!
Thank you very much Sir!

Yeah that's how I see it as well! Thank you very much!
Very nice work buddy! Great handle and seems to be good weight to it too. 👍
Much thanks! Yeah the weight feels awesome, very much worth the difficulty of working with such a hard wood!

Thank you very much! They are pricey indeed, was considering a few options but glad I went for homemade in the end!

Ooh that's not a bad idea! Thanks!

Update: Blackburn eventually refunded my money in full.
Fantastic - shame about the chip out, but it now has its first battle scar :)
Another nice tool made wow Paul Sellers has had an Influence on you I think. Yes?
Thank you! For sure, Paul Sellers' channel has been invaluable to me!
Where are you from??
Where do you get that tool to set the thooth of the saw?
