Hi Paul. Thanks for your channel - I find it really enjoyable and well balanced. I've had my Raptor for 3 months now and here's my personal feedback so far (its my daily commute and I have done 4000KM+ already): 1. I do love the looks, comfort, driving experience and looks of enjoyment from people seeing it for the first time! 2. Rough and random Idle - always 3. Hectic fuel consumption I cannot get it below 17L /100KM (only have 95 Octane here) 4. Really unreliable Apple Carplay - always gets confused between different phones - most frustrating. Sometimes just cant get it to work 5. Radio memory is suspect - changes by itself 6. I'm an Audiophile and the B&O Sound system is properly awesome 7. Going over speed bumps is not as smooth as I expected (in any mode) 8. Front lights are outstanding and the matrix system works beautifully 8. Camera system is outstanding and very useful 9. Braking could be more responsive in general 10. That aerial - yeah what a silly implementation, surprised mines still attached 11. Gearbox often hunting too much when starting a trip 12. Seat Comfort and legroom in the back for adults on long trips is way below the comfort levels a decent SUV (BMW X5). The seats should really have been MUCH better. Front seats are incredible 13. Irritating that a sunroof was not standard 14. Cupholders on the left and right side are unusable - they crush paper cubs and are not easy to use 15. On Road stability is excellent at all speeds
I agree 💯 percent. I have had mine about 2 1/2 months and so far loving it.
I have all the same issues. Inconsistent rough idle. Sometimes smooth, sometimes very rough. Gearbox is all over the place. Sometimes smooth, sometimes rough. Got it booked in for an inspection this week, but doubt they'll find any issues. They said at first service, no fault codes and everything looks fine, but I'm skeptical. Worried about the article I saw about dodgy valve springs. Has anyone also noticed that sometimes the suspension feels really plush and nice on the road and other times feels harsh?
How much clappers charge in this days? How’s the weather in India?
I think it's reasonably obvious there is 1 tool in the ranger.
Behind the drivers seat is a fairly large tool. Good one Paul. :)

Thanks for the great ownership update which really convince me to buy and I bought it today. Hopefully I will receive it after 10 days as the dealer needs to prepare it.
Thanks for your great reviews and keep up the great work mate.
Nice work Paul, always enjoy your down to earth reviews
I was going to ask you how your Raptor is going on your next post. You read my mind! I'm Australian, and I must say it is so good to have channels like these. Thank you.
That's carwow mat waston person car channel explains same car experience and ownership especially old car and what to look out for
I'm American and this GENTLEMAN is the best car reviewer I've seen. Ours are always full of it or biased against a certain brand and don't initiate proper tests. This guy really knows his stuff and does honest reviews.
I set up Raptor mode to be the steering, suspension, exhaust that I prefer for everyday driving including having the stop start off, then save it, then each time you get in hit the Raptor button and you’re set..
Got my Raptor 2 weeks ago, luv it
Indeed thats the way. I might add that the lane assist must be turned off each time you start the car.
Yes you can do that, but this still requires you to push a button twice every time you start the car as it reverts to Normal mode on startup. You can turn off auto-stop start with just one button press. That's what Paul is trying to avoid. Personally not much of an issue for me. I do like Raptor mode and it is an easier way to switch from Normal to whatever you like with just two button presses.
@@Eng.T1D one of the recalls was about this. I had six that were done this week. Need to press the lane assist button twice to turn it off. Apparently this has to do with meeting a certain ANCAP rating.
Hi Paul, have just driven my new Raptor from Geelong to Perth and a few observations. On the SA and WA roads you can generally do 110K per hour and when you have a truck coming the opposite way the wind causes a ripple effect on the bonnet?. Also when you drive off road you can get a substantial amount of dust through the tailgate as there is no dust proofing. Driving on some of the beaches in sand mode is fantastic. All in all what a job Ford have done. Michael
adjust the bonnet rubbers. wind them out. fixed mine. doesn't move anymore
Thanks Paul .. another great video. Just took delivery of my Black Raptor 2 weeks ago and loving it! Purchased purely based on your reviews!
Would love to see some more hardcore off road stuff. Get those diff locks working Paul!
Your Rego is fine Mate.😊 Another great video as I’m very interested to see how it goes over time. Hopefully you’ll keep us all posted. Must say they sound Awesome. Cheers 🍻
You can set the auto start to off and the exhaust to your favorite along with the drive mode and even suspension. Set it and then hold down the R to set it as your mode. R is your saved mode.
I was about to write the same but just checked comments if someone already did that 😉
Do you then have to press the R mode every time you start it or will it remember from last drive and automatically start it in R mode?
@@nickhutchings6357 press everytime get into car to set it to your fav settings
This is seriously the best Australian Car UA-cam channel by FAR. Keep up the great work. Love the content!
Love it mate. So glad to hear you’re happy with it. Mine comes in July and I cannot freaking wait!!!
Thanks for the update. Keen to see some off-road driving, hill climbing etc.
My '22 Ford Edge ST AWD SUV has received 2 "over the air" updates thus far here in US. I'm quite happy w/that. Performance is outstanding! Rides smooth & comfortable.
Thanks for the honest review Paul - it’s always a voyage of discovery when owning a new car and its ‘personality’ and good to know your little one feels safe enough to sleep - I’m not a fan of those large infotainment/system mgt screens forcing you to take your eyes of the road momentarily which is not much different to looking at your smart phone which makes me wonder if this will be looked at by the road authorities and police in time - more cylinders does mean more fuel which is a price for extra power - I currently get around 10 litres per 100km wth my Hilux but will expect higher when the V6 diesel is eventually introduced.
Hi Paul, great reviews! Just got mine, managed to figure out the auto start/stop feature! In park, set your modes (steering, suspension, exhaust etc) then keep the "R" button in, effectively taking a snapshot of said setup. You unfortunately still have to press the "R" button twice after each and every start though.
Paul doesn't even comment ..... rude
We are waiting for THIS VERSION (i.e. Ranger Raptor) in Canada and the USA for YEARS NOW! I saw a test mule at the Whistler-Blackcomb Ski Resort parking lot in British Columbia, Canada last year 2022 and I noticed they changed the bumper over to a more aggressive-looking two-piece system than the unified front body style that is on your "International Ranger Raptor Version". I also THOUGHT I heard the whine of a twin-turbo 3.0 litre engine (my guess!) so other than those changes, this will be QUITE CLOSE to what North America will be getting!
That bodes VERY WELL for taking this on the much narrower forest service roads we have here in Western Canada!
This looks GREAT! Can't wait to see and try our North American version when it FINALLY comes out in 2024!
Enjoy your early head start of the super-offroad-worthy vehicles race!
Time for you to take this on the 7000 km long Brisbane to Punsand and then onto Kakadu National Park (Northern Territory) to Perth coastal off-road trail run!
V
It's here now for $80000 CAD + taxes 😂😂 For a mid-size truck, what a time to be alive
Good to hear you mention Brake Fade. As I still think it should be included in every test, specially sports orientated cars.
As many should know, Ceramic brake discs won't stop any quicker than steel discs. But they won't have brake fade & be 100% consistent in their stopping distance.
So something like 5 x 100-0 hard brake stops & then work out a % difference from 1st stop to the 5th stop to calculate the fade difference.
sports oriented..... :)
C'mon you gotta tell us what the other number plate was!!?!

My Raptor shows 24L/100Km😂 honestly I just put in baja exaust mode everytime and floor it very often just love the sound
I have the same rough idle, going to ford this week. I also have a sizzle from the aircon when I turn the car off occasionally, and agree the infotainment system is hard to use whilst driving. I also have a shake to google car play maps.
Otherwise loving the ute! Getting about 17L per 100 on average and 11L on the free way! 20+ offroad in Baja and love the sound.
K02 are terrible in the wet but great offroad!
Great review !!
Awesome Bakkie Paul! Enjoy it!
Thanks for the update!
Top video as always Paul. Just saw you on Credlin too. Handled with aplomb mate, well done!
Ah the old odd fire v6 vibration, really brings a lack of refinement to the occasion. Fits right in with a ford badge nearby 👌
Hey Paul, your videos are amazing.
Cheers from the Philippines =)
one thing I love my Mustang is it doesn't have auto stop/start!
Oh, I’m so glad that those made it to the states
great stuff Paul hope Ford do fix all your issues that you mention loved the vid mate..
I absolutely love my raptor and the versatility in driving is astounding. Bugbears- 1.rear camera should be accessible when driving especially needed when you have a obscured load in the back or a canopy and you want to see if a load of rubbish, timber , dirt bikes etc in your trailer are all good and still tied down properly.
2. Aerial, half the ppl buying these will get a roof rack which doesn’t work that well with a bloody aerial sticking through the middle of it.
3. Side steps, anyone who’s taken their raptor on a hardcore off road through grass and mud know that it all gets stuck up in folds in the side steps and is a bit h to get out.
4. Maybe I drive mine a bit harder than everyone else but I’ve done 8,000km and the first month it was still above 20Lper 100 but even after 7 months im on 16.5L per 100 km but in saying that I still pay for petrol with a smile on my face.
5. They should not ve got rid of the glove box on right hand side of the steering wheel l, a perfect spot for the wallet and they also need a spot for the key fob as it slides around in all the plastic console holders and gives me the shits 😂
6. Have to reprogram the exhtnoise every time I start the car although I’ve seen on here that there’s a way around it which I’ll try.
7. The rear door trims, surely for near 100k car you’d think they’d have matching door trims for the front n rear rather than hard plastics with no ambient lighting, gives a poor feel for rear passengers
8. The horn , if you’re a bind man you’d think you’ve been beeped by a scooter , did Ford raid the festiva parts bin or something 😂
9. Top glove box, I have to shut mine a hand on each side or one side doesn’t shut properly.
10. Tailgate , in the US they’ve had tailgate ladders in their pick ups for decades, they need on in this as unlike the wildtrak and lesser models there’s no step up to get into the back, hopefully now that it’s sold in the US they’ll do an aftermarket one.
Please don’t think I don’t love this Ute, I’d buy it again in a heartbeat, best all round vehicle I’ve owned and I’ve had literally 100s of cars, just a few annoying things that I hope Ford addresses in the next model.
I'm so glad you mentioned the rough idle! My Raptor has been doing this since new and I initially though it was the fuel so changed station but it still occurs. You can also see the RPMs drop ever so slightly during the rough idling.
this is very normal. nothing to worry.
@@layne4376 Completely agree that no modern engine should be doing it. My wife as a 2017 Diesel Volkswagen Golf and it's smoother at idle! Tiny amount of revs and the engine runs like butter so it's just idle.
@@JJ452 dude, the guy literally just said he was overthingking it. its a V6 petrol. it would normally give vibrations.
@@layne4376 ford feature?
@@lolitamonsood6852 It's a V6 petrol not diesel. I know V6s are unbalanced and can vibrate more than 4 four-cylinder but when accompanied with slight RPM fluctuations it's a sign it's more than just an unbalanced V6.
I’ve been waiting for this haha thanks, paul !
How’s the sound system ?
What a fun review Paul!!
It’s amazing that suspension has become so firm on so many cars that a Ute can feel luxurious.
The suspension better be amazing on the raptor it's got the most expensive suspension in it as standard haha ( fox suspension )
Great update review, love to see you jump it!
What are the other plates😂
I laughed when you said the 3 things you do on startup because I do the exact same things 👍🏻
You can make changes to the settings using Forscan. You can get rid of stop start, turn off things like seatbelt chimes etc. Would be happy to bring mine down one day and show you through it and make some changes if you like
Back when I had my first PXI Ranger, which had an incredibly long aerial, which would hit the height gantry for car parks. I found on the forums that you could replace it with the Territory's aerial as the PXI had parts from a few different Fords. You might be able to get something similar for yours, hopefully without too much loss of reception.
Stupid Ford have the stupid aerial in the way for roof racks
great info on the raptor thanks paul
Great job on the video. I took a Raptor for a test drive in Thailand. I was great very quick and smooth. But I did notice when coming out of a turn the steering wheel did not come back on its own. Is this something you are experiencing? Or was it just the test model.
I'm so glad we're getting this in the States, I have an order in on mine.
On my 2021 biturbo I plugged in the dealersupplied trailer adaptor for led trailer lights, stopped auto stop start from engaging with zero compromise. Dash doesn't think there is a trailer, and says auto stop start active, but definitely doesn't stop. Can do much if you don't have a trailer plug tho? I undid the plug from towbar, plugged the adaptor in and fixed it where the std plug would go on the towbar.
Also the most amazing thing about the Raptor for me (besides the fox shocks suspension) is the take off (0-100) on a wet grasses paddock, it just hooks in where other 4 wheelers just sit there when you plant the foot from standstill. It would blow most vehicles away with it on wet grass and the others on tarmac. The raptor cpu does do miracles 👌
They will be adding the ‘Wet Grass Take Off’ test to car tests now. Haha😢
In 4a or 2h?
@@seedias5961 Baja mode which is 4H
Hi Paul! Great review, I’ve been watching your channel, from Canada, for the past year while you’ve been testing and reviewing the Ranger Raptor. It’s great to see you’re happy with your purchase. Question: We don’t have demo trucks (yutes?) here to test drive, and I want to see if my retractable tonneau cover for my existing Ranger will fit on the Raptor when I get mine. Do you know the inside-to-inside measurement of the bed rails on your Raptor? Please let it be 56.5” (143.5cm)!!! Thanks!
Hi Paul, yep there is a service bulletin to fix the upper glovebox (mine was done recently - I have a V6 Wildtrak). The diesel is much much smoother.
Love the plate! Got one too and same here make all the tradies jealous 🤣
congrats mate that thing looks gorgeous, my Wildtrak is coming in a few weeks and definitely gonna be envious when I see the raptors around.
I should have a wildtrak coming in May too and yeah the raptor looks so good. Just gotta keep telling myself that the wildtrak wont be drinking as much.
@@kentaylor2950 congrats! what colour did you go with? I went with black, paired with the biturbo. My dealer was telling me 2 years~ for the raptor, definitely dont wanna wait that long. + raptor's fuel economy is not for the faint hearted and thats me : / but fu*k me its just so beautiful.
Very similar sentiments with mine. Rough idle is weird. I've also noticed exhaust modes drop out very often. Sports mode trans shifts can be extremely abrupt too. I've been logging fuel econ by pump vol and odo and there wasn't much of a difference between 2H and 4A for me.
What are you getting for your fuel economy?
Mine has weird rough idle too. I'm not too worried about it.
And my main screen has blacked out while driving before and my exhaust mode display has failed to show on the cluster (today actually). And appalling fuel economy whilst towing a 1200kg trailer. 27L/100km.
But all in all I love it!!!!
@@valtervalentinuzzi7788 when I first got it and was a bit conscious of fuel econ it was 12L/100km. Now I floor it everywhere, so a bit of towing and driving up the high country and it’s out to 14L/100km. I’ve done 20,000km so far too
Beautiful truck! Your super lucky. Best truck out there by far.
I'm so curious about how it would handle with road tyres. (I know the raptor is an off road focused vehicle but I am still curious, 0-100km/h and lap time.)
Hi Paul, yep had the same issue with the “secondary glovebox”. Ford Dealer said appears a part not fitted during manufacture🤔Havd to order part in, that was about 8 weeks ago, still waiting.
Glad it make you happy, that's all that matters, I see too many comments like, it doesn't have a diesel, it uses too much fuel, Oh this Oh that, well that's why there are other models to choose, go with the 4Cyl or V6 Diesel in any other variant, the Raptor is toy for grownups if you don't like it, there's plenty of other variants or brands to buy 👍👍
Your rough idle is only a big end bearing….nothing to worry about!!!😀
Not sure if you'll see this or if it works the same with that motor but I have a PX3 2.0 diesel and always used to switch the stop start off everytime I got in but learnt that when you come to a standstill, just don't hold the brake pedal down so hard and the engine wont shut off even if stop-start is on. Could be worth a try
I reckon you need get hold of a ramp like they use in the stadium super truck series that runs at some of Supercars events and just SEND IT! Get hold of Paul Morris to make it happen and see how it stacks up.
the infotainment system is sooo laggy. 1000% agree. in fact i find all systems have inherent lag. as though theres a delay between making an input and the system outputting - ie - change temperature, wind up/down the windows, adjust mirrors, change stereo volume/track/channel.
wireless carplay is very laggy for me. about 1.5 seconds between me inputting a command and it being actioned.
agree about lack of OTA updates too
Have you informed ford regarding the lag in the infotainment screen?? I'm waiting on my everest and I'm hoping a lot of these teething problems are solved. Also the 360 camera top-down view I've noticed the black silhouette around the car, needs to be more polished.
Mate excellent vid and also love the whole raptor idea right from the mighty little 2litre to current . Its funny how all of the manufacturers are kinda using synthol on their old platforms if you get my drift lol 😂to make a raptor killer ..... As we stand now we have the best platform as far as chassis design goes for a oem point of view. The ram trx is although probs the most fun right now on road but roo much power for its current chassis to stay safe lol watch the data on trx owners trashing them going too fast 😂
Absolute weapon owned mine for 6months and just sold it ill definitely miss it as I lost my licence in it lol,but she let me down too many time's in the reliability department I may have had a lemon good feedback mate..
Would loove to see some offroad content, and maybes some Great Ocean Road runs with your Raptor ❤
Great review , hoping you are able to do a f150 review soon.
I do exactly the same driver inputs with my new Wildtrak V6 - Auto-stop OFF, Lane keep assist OFF - then I control the car!
Ronny from 4 wheeling Australia give a “sports “ ranger a reasonable off-road workout and a big concern was the auto box was getting quite hot with warnings coming up
Would be good if you could investigate this as well
Hi Paul, have you noticed extra vibrations in the front drive line when using 4A compared to 2H? mine is horrendous.
I have an F150 3.5L TT....it's my 4th ecoboost. They all have a rough idle at times and I've been told it's set that way to help keep injectors and other engine systems clean.
It does what??
Sounds like BS.
As a Raptor owner myself, I picked mine up December last year and I’ve put nearly 15,000kms on it, I’ve unfortunately had multiple issues with the car.
It is beautiful to drive and looks amazing, but definitely isn’t flawless.
1- My wireless Apple car play works less than half the time and only seems to be getting worse. Things like Spotify being a blank screen, google maps being a blank screen and having to physically use the apps on the phone to make them work etc.
2- It had major fuel sensor issues with telling me the tank was empty when it wasn’t or telling me there were no fuel stations within range when I had a full tank and sitting in a fuel station, and also going the other way of giving me warnings to not overfill the tank when it’s got a quarter tank of fuel in it (took it into Ford and they did an update which fixed it for a while but I’m getting the same thing starting to happen again.
3- There was a week where every time it was cold started there was a really nasty rattle coming from under the hood (sounded like the engine had dropped its oil pressure) but would then come good after a few seconds, and wouldn’t do it once warm. I was about to take it into the factory but it stopped doing it and hasn’t done it since, but I am quietly waiting for it every time I start it now.
There has been a few other minor things as well.
All in all, it’s still an amazing vehicle, it would just be nice obviously if all these small problems weren’t happening.
My fuel consumption is also at 12.9L/100km and I’m still pretty foot happy with it.
for No3 you gotta bring her to the factory. It's VGT parts issue Ford engineer told me they aware this already. I just fixed this
What about the registration plate 'One Tool' just in case it's fitting.
I had a Everest and found the idle ran rough when the DPF was on. I would suggest it's the PPF in your raptor it it's only sometimes and when the exhaust is hot. Also try the idle with the aircon off and see if that makes a difference.
I don’t think the Australian and North American raptors have a ppf
DPF in a petrol?
It appears you are wrapped in your Raptor. Great video, enjoyed it.
Hi Paul, you could do an cold start!! And show the features that you Raptor has!
Nice review Paul
Hello Paul. Your reviews are brilliant, thank you. Over the years, I have driven heavy trucks both in New Zealand and Australia, and since the late 70s, most trucks have had heated rear vision mirrors for demisting and rain. I haven't heard any mention of modern SUVs and utes having heated mirrors. Have you noticed heated mirrors on the new SUVs. Oh, by the way, it looks like the Amarok Aventura is going to be $AUD 123K plus.
Kindest regards.
Mo Brooking
Love your reviews.
We have 2014 Q7 and it has heated mirrors
I have the same rough idle and after 14k km the truck developed a serious camshaft noise on cold start up, sounded like a diesel engine for the first few seconds then would go to rough idle. Waiting for Ford now to tell me what the problem is, also had a front CV boot split and put grease everywhere. Other things that are not so good with the truck is auto lock works when it feels like it, brakes have no feeling when standing on them hard the electronic system is not calibrated well and last but not least fuel economy, the natural habitat for this truck is not the wide open desert but the local petrol station.
This was enjoyable to watch & am looking at getting this, loved that you shared how your daughter likes it as I was wondering how mine would like it in comfort wise. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥💯✔️✨️💚✨️👍
If you get a bull bar for the raptor GME do an am/fm +dab so that would fix the roof arial, or you could mount it on a rear sports bar etc....
The Ford Ranger Raptor is finally coming to America this fall. Yahoo!!!
Custom Car Coding, bloke is a wizard. Especially with Rangers and Raptors. Hit him up!
Fair honest video! Good one. You're lucky you have no tools because you can't install an aftermarket canopy on the rangers to carry them anyway! Electrical issues.....
Wow great vehicle with lots of creature comforts
This is a proper beast of a car 🥲🥲
They look like so much fun but having a Blind business I need the ability to carry long blinds at times. I can fit 2700mm ones in my Everest. All the back seats down I can carry quiet large plantation shutter boxes as well along with a 6 foot ladder.
great review thank you, one question, does the Raptor have keyless entry if it does can it be permanently disabled.
Great. Youre pose standing there, looks a bit smug. But you have the right to be. After all its your own Raptor Exciting journeys with masive fun factor comming. ❤
Waiting for next update.
Hopefully it’s has ventilated seats like the Platinum
Hey Paul, at 10:20 when filing the dash and downshifting, does the raptor auto blip like the mustang?
I'm not a raptor guy at all but for some reason that ranger raptor looks perfect to me.
Hey Paul what ute do think is better out of the mazda 4x4 1.9L or the ssangyong musso elx 4x4? I have to get either one next week
Hi Paul, one thing i noticed is that everbody puts his car in to Baja when not off road.. i mean it can’t be good for the differentials, do you think your issues can be linked to that?
It looks soo nice 👍
Hi Paul. How would you rate value for money compared to other Utes? It's a fair whack of coin but I acknowledge it brings unique performance. Maybe consider how it will really be used by average Joe around town noting they will never access it's full performance potential or flog it around a track.
R mode on the steering wheel Paul to set up your preferences
Are you happy Paul with its reversing speed ?😅
Thanks 😊
Can you do a comparison between a stock Raptor and a Herrod tuned Raptor, that would be awesome.
Has over the air wifi updates improved working yet ? The roof Ariel should have been a modern fin Ariel.
Also is Raptor good for shopping food bags and did you take yours off road hard time least a 5 or 7/10 hard trails. Easy do it ?
I wanna own this someday soon🔥🔥
Using higher octane fuel in a vehicle that isn't designed for it causes "detonation" in the cylinder, not "combustion" very bad for the pistons and cylinder...
Is the aerial included in the claimed height of the vehicle?
Looks easy to roll in an incident . Surprised so many punters accept that, for a daily. Plus other dynamic shortcomings. Imagine some decent bumps during those drifts...
Nice rig tho .
