  • The Royal Domain of Drottningholm stands on an island in Lake Mälar in a suburb of Stockholm. With its castle, perfectly preserved theatre (built in 1766), Chinese pavilion and gardens, it is the finest example of an 18th-century north European royal residence inspired by the Palace of Versailles.

This is a lovely place to visit, and if you take one of the little steamers out it makes for a very pleasant day out. The formal gardens are like a miniature Versailles and while there's a 'no photo' policy inside the palace, the guides are more than happy to discuss the history with you. We even managed to see the Changing of the Guard and get a private tour while we were there. A must when in Stockholm!

Do not visit my country at all in the winter unless you are Eskimo. Then we have pure hell here. 😅
