#torqueback I brought my first road bike from Hargroves. However they sized me up wrong massively. Any opinions on how to get a comfortable ride? I didn't know where to post the comment. So now you got 2! (Sorry)
#torqueback. Lately when I've been riding my right foot will start to fall asleep every twenty minutes or so, and I have to give it a shake to get the blood flowing, which you would think pedalling would take care of on it's own. any idea what might be causing this annoyance? Been riding for years and this has just started happening recently
yeah why not. quite a few are doing long distance these days.. the bike is an awesome way to travel around different countries for fun / leisure, as well as records and competition
As Mark said you following his journey on GCN was great and I think this program in general is the best thing to happen to cycling in a long time. I have been trying to follow cycling in the media for 32 years from a few dodgy video tapes when Steven Roach won the TDF up until now it's like chalk and cheese. Thanks GCN .
Thanks GCN the very best interview I have ever seen with a pro cyclist nice and long lots of questions lots of facts and great stories. Could you do more interviews with pro cyclists like this. Maybe the winner of the TDF or WORLDS maybe a look back when a pro retires. And to Mark great job and best of luck in all u do.
Rode with Mark when I found him on the D11 just north of l isle -jourdain only for 45 min ,he is a real gent a great guy to talk to and took an interest in what you did .Chapeau Mark.
Absolutely fascinating - such an illuminating, interesting and instructive interview! The fact that Mark is so down to earth, perceptive, intelligent and articulate adds so much to his story that is useful for anybody who rides, endurance or otherwise. I think got more from this than from any other GCN video, and there have been some excellent ones before this! Well done GCN, and thank you Mark.
Fabulous and inspirational Mark. Si, perhaps your 386km ride could inspire you to participate in next year’s Best British All Round TT competition (BBAR). The BBAR requires you to average 22mph over 50 miles, 100 miles and 12 hour TTs to qualify. I reckon you’d have a serious chance of winning it. Mark, many congratulations on an epic and an historic achievement.
Absolutely the best Ask GCN Anything episode yet! Congratulations Mark on your epic achievement! I'm sure your record will stand for many, many years. Cheers!
I'm 54 years old when I was 16 fresh out of school me and my late dad and my sister still with us cycled from the village of dipton stanley Co.Durham to Portsmouth 3 days to get there there and 3 days back nowadays I'm overweight but on a good day I can still cycle around 50 miles a day god bless guys take it easy
Have watched this vid 3 times now. As someone whom has applied to enter next years IPWR Mark's incredible feat of endurance is awe inspiring. I would love to hear his critique on certain hardware - what survives and what doesn't during his long rides, chains? cranks? frames? surely some stuff fails or has in the past.
Amazing interview, amazing trip, important for more than cycling, says a lot about tenacity. People like to use the word "dedicated" for some reason, but I prefer "tenacity" because "dedication" implies "desire" and "choice" which, while they might play into it at the start, once you're into it there's not really any going back.
I wasn't sure about sitting through this, but I honestly think its one of the best GCN videos I've watched. What an amazing person, this was really interesting and honest insight into what he went through.
Mark, you truly are a special human being, if I can be so bold? Congratulations to you and your team on an staggering achievement. I would like to thank you for being such an inspiration not only for me but the millions out there watching your journey. Also, thank you GCN for a putting together a great cycling channel. REPLY
Great show with Mark Beaumont. I found out about his ride through GCN and followed him him everyday. I also had the privilege to ride with Mark in Chalk River, Ontario Canada. Thanks to GCN for the great coverage of Mark’s incredible journey.
Haha Simon checking the laptop but also giving Mark attention. Like me checking the football scores while my wife is telling me about her latest work drama. Rewatch this imagining that he’s checking his Facebook and just can’t stop. Hilarious... but fantastic show guys.
What a top bloke Mark is and an inspiration to others. The best part of this interview has got to be Si's face though! He seems to be awestruck by the comment about saddle sores. Also thanks GCN for a top class channel
A lot of the stuff he said reminded me of long distance hiking. The first few days of a hike are the toughest. The one thing that most hikers who are out for months at a time miss the most is family or depending on the trail just human companionship period (see Andrew Skurka's hike around Alaska where at one point he didn't see another human for over 3 weeks). And, I think every hiker experiences hiker hobble. Your legs and feet in particular hurt so much in the morning, but once you've been going for 30 minutes to an hour those pains go away and you just drop into a rhythm. I guess it just shows the commonality of endurance athletics in general.
My congratz to Mark. He's a beast! I'd have ask that: if he could travel back in time to change just one piece of equipment (from bike parts to clothes) what would that be?
What a guy! I've really enjoyed watching all the round the world content, but this caps it all. Possibly best GCN vid ever (up there with Martyn at Whistler on GMBN)
Great interview and having met Mark after his first ATW ride its great to see he is still the same nice character he was even after all that he has achieved.
Magnificent interview. Listening to the insight from a men that did a truly incredible feat is priceless. Kudos to GCN that covered his adventure on a weekly basis with his short vlogs. I waited for that every week and that was the highlight of everything GCN has done up to this point. Please more coverages like that. You guys should cover the TansAm, IndiPac, and transcontinental with more depth, including videos from competitors on a regular basis. This would be more interesting to follow than the Hammer series or any other Grand Tour. You would get explosive audience. World Tours is getting to controlled and sanitized and those events are true human adventure and grit. This is cycling at its essence. Also thanks for Si's genuine man crush on Mark because that's what makes good entertainment and maintain base fan, genuineness.
Two things: 1st: Was chuckling very loudly when Mark said 8-10 min snooze and then i've only got 8-10 hours on the bike. WOW I'm sitting here contemplating doing a 2 hour or a 4 hour ride. 2nd: Penny farthing on a velodrome, surely he would be required to go even faster than 55kmph for fear of toppling over? Again MASSIVE congratulations on an unbelievable achievement that will not be beaten.
I really enjoyed that! Cracking episode GCN. Mark is always a pleasure to listen to (got to meet him once, top bloke) but Matt & Si; excellent questions guys and great interaction with your guest.
Mark talked at my old work in Edinburgh following his cross-Africa ride (maybe we sponsored him?). So interesting, such a good speaker and very happy to take questions from a bunch of stunned non cyclists! It was the highlight of the hell that was that job :)
Adam Hansen is probably the most robust UCI Pro, though I think the ultra-endurance crowd is a very different realm. Makes me wonder about a relay effort to go around the world, because I don't see Mark Beaumont's record being broken for a very long time.
This was amazing!!! Great to hear the insights, experience, impacts, etc. as someone more endurance sport driven hit home with me on a lot of things, though never on that scale. So interesting to see how it would scale up... and for such an amazing athlete and their experience doing such a trip is great!! Thanks again guys for another great video, have really been enjoying your content since I discovered it about a month ago.
What a beast! I wonder what Mark did for mental conditioning. The mental tricks he referred to in the video... And once he was out of those, what did he have left? And yeah, absolutely, best 'Ask GCN Anything' episode yet!
Not to diminish his achievement in any way, but having a crew there to feed him, and massage his muscles daily is a huge help. He had clean water to cleanse his crotch every day, and a good bed to sleep in. Big helps, but again, he rode over 240 miles a day, every day for 2 1/2 months. That's unbelievable.

that's happening with me too at the moment.. was going to look at my cleat position..?
Low gear and high cadence, or high gear and lower cadence?
It would be amazing if you brought in Mark's performance manager, Laura Penhaul. I bet she has some really great stuff to say!
I bet his fitbit was screaming "get off your butt, ya lazy" for not reaching his step goals.
a 35 minute video with mark beaumont, we are blessed
Far and away the best interview session you guys have done. Mark is a true gentleman.
Im 14 and have been cycling for 2 and a half years. Following Mark's journey has been inspiring. Would love to do something like this one day
yeah why not. quite a few are doing long distance these days.. the bike is an awesome way to travel around different countries for fun / leisure, as well as records and competition

You guys should really do a podcast like kind of video.. this was on the verge of being one! Bring new guests every week! :D
SwedishHouseFifa i like the current series' they have
Love the Idea! Maybe throw in some Maven like Vlogs every once in awhile as well.
thanks GCN for this video. Totally awesome and soooo glad you guys interviewed Mark.
I've come back and watched this again after all these years - it's still absolutely brilliant. What an achievement..!
Best Ask GCN anything ever !!! Kudos to Mark .
Mark Beaumont absolute legend, well done GCN big thumbs up
8:35 The body says “Well he’s not gonna stop so we may as well turn off the pain” 😂
Excellent questions guys. Well done. Now for GCN around Britain.
Thanks GCN the very best interview I have ever seen with a pro cyclist nice and long lots of questions lots of facts and great stories. Could you do more interviews with pro cyclists like this. Maybe the winner of the TDF or WORLDS maybe a look back when a pro retires.

What an absolute legend Mark Beaumont is. And so modest as well.
Here we are approx 2.5 years on and I still can't believe Mark achieved this, totally epic.
Possibly the best ever GCN video, great questions and great answers from a phenomenal athlete but surely Mark should have received a wattage bazooka?
What an absolutely amazing and humble guy, team, record. Fantastic and truly well done. Great interview lads!
a' Radiohead' fracture....sounds very cool..!..oh,'Radial head fracture,..not the same,lol..

You know you're hardcore when you ride so much that your problems don't hurt anymore..
That's how we roll.
SwedishHouseFifa )
How many times do you think he told himself to HFTU?
Harden Fuck The Up, I like that. Fuck the up, it's all about the down these days, as highlighted in the GCN show regarding Nibali.
Such an incredibly inspiring accomplishment! Well done, Mark.
Thanks GCN - fantastic video and total respect for Mark's achievement! Love Matt's comment likening his commute to riding through Helmand province!!
I wasn't sure about sitting through this, but I honestly think its one of the best GCN videos I've watched. What an amazing person, this was really interesting and honest insight into what he went through.
This guy is a beast.
Simon is like a star struck little school girl gazing at Mark here. Sort yourself out Si, yer a grown man ffs ;)
Smug caucasoid that’s all @MarkBeaumont would get out of me too...
I’m pretty awe(not star)-struck by Beaumont too.
Mark, you truly are a special human being, if I can be so bold? Congratulations to you and your team on an staggering achievement. Total respect for Mark and his team!
I love how Mark's family photo shows the power of the ginger gene!
wow, mister beaumont is such an inspiration. he just makes you want to ride your bike, no matter the circumstances. great video.

How about a pro bike video of Mark's bike?
Best GCN Ask anything ever.. Longest but every second was just as entertaining for any cycling fan out there.
What a top bloke Mark is and an inspiration to others. The best part of this interview has got to be Si's face though! He seems to be awestruck by the comment about saddle sores. Also thanks GCN for a top class channel
Fascinating, what a proper legend
A lot of the stuff he said reminded me of long distance hiking. The first few days of a hike are the toughest. Incredibly interesting interview, good job GCN, Great job Mark!
My congratz to Mark. He's a beast! I'd have ask that: if he could travel back in time to change just one piece of equipment (from bike parts to clothes) what would that be?
sounds like insoles from his talk
The entire Beaumont series has been phenomenal! Well done Mark and keep up the outstanding work GCN!
This was probably one of the best ask GCN anything episode. Congratulations for the show and chapeau to Mark Beaumont.
Can you do a video about his bike and kit?
What a guy! I've really enjoyed watching all the round the world content, but this caps it all. Possibly best GCN vid ever (up there with Martyn at Whistler on GMBN)
Mark your an ABSOLUTE LEGEND DUDE KUDOS
Great interview and having met Mark after his first ATW ride its great to see he is still the same nice character he was even after all that he has achieved.
Brilliant interview, great job guys.
I hope Mark will write a book on this trip. Amazing.
BEST GCN VIDEO EVER!!!
What a great vid.
Think I could have listened to Mark for 78 days. A true inspiration.
One of the better GCN videos: funny, informal, interactive and informative! More of these!
"Its just like riding on hot coals...." That was unreal....simply unbelievable. So much fascinating material here!

you have inspired me somuch mark. 61 yrs and I am so fired for cycling and you are brill
Mark talked at my old work in Edinburgh following his cross-Africa ride (maybe we sponsored him?). So interesting, such a good speaker and very happy to take questions from a bunch of stunned non cyclists! It was the highlight of the hell that was that job :)

Great show. Fantastic to get a real interview with a real cycling legend. Chapeau Mark
One of the best interviews I've ever seen, so inspiring and interesting.
Adam Hansen is probably the most robust UCI Pro, though I think the ultra-endurance crowd is a very different realm. Makes me wonder about a relay effort to go around the world, because I don't see Mark Beaumont's record being broken for a very long time.
Best GCN interview ever. Nice work guys and congrats to you Marc, you are inspiration for us!
Thanks for spending all the time on this one. Great to hear everything unfiltered.

Superb conversation. Mark is such an interesting and thoughtful athlete. Thanks GCN!
That is quite a feat, chapeau!
I'm trying to imagine myself doing something like this, and I can't... this is epic. Truly amazing.
Some serious bro-mance going on in this video. Here too I should add. What a guy - what an effort.
What a beast! I wonder what Mark did for mental conditioning. The mental tricks he referred to in the video... And once he was out of those, what did he have left?

Am I the only one who thinks he would make a fantastic addition to the GCN presenter crew?
I don't think he'd be interested
Yes awesome guy
omg that'd be so good
HELL YES
Seriously? I mean, he's done an amazing thing but he does come across as a bit of a twat.
Biggest hero of 2017
Awesome- Mark is every Marvel super hero in one man
The fork snapped on my bike the other day. Now I have a radial head fracture in both elbows. Respect for cycling almost 70 days with one.
Just wow. Mark Beaumont defining what 'true grit' really is.
Nothing personal GCN, But one of your best videos! Amazing inspiring achievement Mark.
What an absolute fucking legend! Well done and hats off to you sir!
Best GCN video so far.
Surely you need to schedule the World record penny farthing attempt on the same day as your GCN Trandem/Triplet attempt.
Si's face when Mark is discussing saddle sores is priceless.
totally in awe of this fucking mentalist
Fantastic interview! Thanks so much and chapeau to Mr. Beaumont!
Simon's look of awe throughout most of this... he's a little star struck
Want to see the look on the bike fitters face when M.B. rocks up with a penny farthing.
That trip redefines Epic! Well done Mark!
This man is an absolute machine! Chapeau
What an amazing, humble bloke. Great vid!
Glad you enjoyed it!
