Kazuo Ishiguro said in an interview something along the lines of (and I am definitely paraphrasing), "I want to haunt my readers. I want them to feel something long after they have finished reading the book. To think about it later and later again. That is a kind of immortality."

I found this channel and you provide consistently sound advice without being too wordy or too vague. I appreciate writing channels just like this

Also the advice is clear without being rigid, like some other writing channels which pretend to establish themselves as the only bearers of the absolute truth. Very good work, IMO.

I kind of sidestepped the complexity question by basing every character on someone I know. But im 43 and so luckily I've met a lot of people.

So many good characters are based on real people. Or other characters. Or think of an actor you like. How would that actor play your character. Etc. A lot of ways to come up with a character. If they’re a little derivative, so what? I know tons of people that are derivative of other people with slight differences.

When I started writing fiction I quickly understood how bad my work sucked via harsh critique. That inspired me to learn and improve. I'm still learning while I write my 10th book. I know where I am weak and that is important. Each book gets better by accepting my faults. I also know what I do well. There is never a top to this bell curve.

Interesting last point. I find a wee break when I question how valid something will come across to the reader helps me to assess what I've written, as in if to change it or not. When editing it's like reading something for the first time again. It seems to help the process run more smoothly. Great fun as always, thanks.

Bot#8 here! I like this content. I am human. I am waiting for more content.
"Nobody cares" - I know, that is why I am creating very complex story, so complex that people who likes to obsess about something will have a material to go insane in couple of years finding all the clues what is going on. Also I try to write it that way so normal people will like it also. I want to publish it.
My work is not in english.
After 20 years of writing fiction and non-fiction I feel I am not insecure about writing. Too much pain I got from doing older than dirt move to not go gentle into that good night, but raging, raging against the dying of the light.
I hope I will survive editing when I will finish.
    Bot#8 out.

I wonder if we’ll ever have a writing channel critique the writing of UA-cam videos. Haha That’s probably a much larger niche than people think.
But I also wonder what critique would mean. Just criticism? I genuinely don’t think I’ve ever seen a video talking about how to write videos for UA-cam.
I’m fairly new to UA-cam. I’d be interested to see what you think about my latest video.

Didn’t really agree with this. Maybe if you’re onto draft #10 or something? But I’ve had changes in 3, 4, 5th drafts that I find make my writing better than drafts 1 or 2. Draft 1 and 2 barely even count.

Definitely insecure. With zero writer friends and a belief beta readers are unicorns-cause I've yet to find one, I'm chained to the hamsterwheel of rewriting novels everytime I learn something new. Hence it takes donkeys to publish new books.

I agree about the editing/re-writing. I've never seen the merit in massive re-writes and what is basically second guessing yourself. On the other hand, I've never thrown everything and the kitchen sink into the first draft. Just like corporate reports and project tenders, I try to do my best work up front.

If you don’t have major changes from drafts 1-3, your work is definitely overwritten. Of course if you get to draft 20, then it might be underwritten 😂 if you get to the point where you’re pruning just to prune, then you can probably stop.
