We used to get plastic bags for free then they started selling them,to save the environment, because if it's free, you throw it away but if you pay for it,you will wanna bring it bag for your next shopping.
There is no tipping expected at Gas/Petrol Stations. Where you specifically request that the Attendant cleans your car windows then you MAY tip.
They charge for the plastic bag here to deter the use of plastic. It’s an environmental tax of some kind
You don't have to tip petrol attendants, unless they did more extra like washing your windscreen etc.
Hi Guys, I was born in Joburg and since I was a Teenager we moved to Switzerland. I am now in my 40tees and I am thinking about moving back to S.A... My Family is from Joburg area, so I will probily move out there, aldo to be honest I would like Cape Town more. YOu Guys Video is very helpful in that thinking process!
Most of the labour you mention is minimum wage/unskilled labour so it's seen as helping someone making a living wage or job creation
Don't feel pressured for tipping it's not mandatory. Tip if you want not under obligation
Petrol attendants expecting a tip is new to me. Never seen it over there. I suspect some folk might pick up on the accent and ask for a tip. But, I've honestly never seen an attendant expecting a tip for that particular service.
In most Malls even if it's not a parking garage u still pay. Most Malls upgraded the outside parkings and installed boom gates to deter car stealers.
Fun fact, even locals get irritated by car guards sometimes😂
At some malls, when you purchase goods and receive a receipt, the receipt will have a bar code that will allow you exit the parking using the receipt you received from that particular retailer. You can ask the cashier whether the receipt will allow you to exit the parking without paying, or sometimes the receipt is written that you can use it to exit the parking without paying.
Looks like here in S.A. we create alot of jobs and giving back to people who
I don’t think it’s an expectation to tip petrol attendants but if you want to then you can
There’s tolls and there’s etolls 😅 Ignore the etolls one😂. But usually on long distance trips, you’re expected to pay the relevant/compulsory tolls .
You don't have to tip anybody if you don't want it is not a must❤❤❤
We always leave the reusable bags in the car, then we will put our groceries in a trolley/cart,then pack them in bags when we get to the car
U don't need to tip anyone. It's a courtesy. Only waiters are a must
There are sauces on the table that are free. List of extra sauces on the menu aren't free.
They used to be methodical here too and seperated items that shouldn’t be bagged together, and even placed frozen items in transparent bags, but ever since they started making us buy bags it looks like they don’t even train their staff how to pack groceries. Today I had something packed on top of avocado!!
The carrier bag story is to try and deter use of plastic, not that it has much of an effect because the environment is still choking from excessive use of plastic, too much plastic pollution, clogging the storm water drainage system during cloud breaks, very noticeable along highways when the highway just gets waterlogged within seconds causing flooding crisis😢
