I appreciate this remake so much. It still has the same magic as the original but with so many improvements. I’m very happy with it and have been playing everyday
I know everything is about money so they want things to be "safe" but how cool would if be to have a rated teen harvest moon game? It doesn't need to be M (that would be neat tho), I just want some dark aspects of life and a slightly more realistic look to the game. Almost dark fantasy like.
I just really dislike how vibrant it is. I much preferred the more earthy tone of the original. And, I’ve always disliked the character and animal designs. I’m still buying it, but those two things really bother me.
@@nolanschotanus2769 Unfortunately changing the brightness won't change the color palette. It will still look very cartoonish compared to the art design of the original, which balanced cartoon/anime design with more subdued and realistic color palettes.
Agreed. I think they tried really hard to fit the scenery to the more modern anime art style, but this and Mineral Town’s remake just makes me wish even more that we could see anime-styled games that were more grounded again. It doesnt have to be all brown and muddy and gloomy, but something a bit more down to earth would be appreciated.
Playing it right now I definitely prefer the look of the original. The original had this "lived in" earthy tone to it that I just adored whereas the remake feels way to bright and cheerful. I also feel some of the character redesigns are a lot less charming than their original counterparts and hate how they've made livestock immortal. It's my understanding immortal livestock has been a thing for the past few games already but I really dislike it as it takes away the consequences of being neglectful in the care of your animals. That said, I'm still very much enjoying the remake as it's been very nostalgic revisiting these characters from nearly 20 years ago and the QoL improvements are definitely most welcome.
I remembered playing countless hours in this game. I loved selling stuff in the afternoon near the bar haha, talking to people passing by and selling stuff.
This makes me all the more excited to relive such a precious piece of my childhood. It's clear that they took so much care when bringing this game back and amplifying its features for a modern audience without eradicating the charm entirely. Thank you for walking through all of this with us! I'd definitely be interested in seeing what suffered from the remaking process, though, too.
I really hope they one day recreate the Nintendo 64 one! The egg festival and harvest festival where my FAVORITE. I hope they keep the layout and everything the same and just make it 3D. I’d probably cry if they did cus I loved that game SO MUCH!!
Hey Josh. Found a cute little game that I think really flew under the radar when it first released. It’s called Bear and Breakfast and after playing it I think it’d be right up your alley.
I tried playing Wonderful Life SE on the PS2 as a kid and could never get into it because of how slow everything felt (like, you'd leave your house at 6am, and it'd take 30 in-game minutes to walk to the barn). May have been an issue with my disc or console, but the footage here shows everything moving at a much more satisfying pace than I remember. Might be time to revisit
I have a (and another) wonderful life on GameCube. I was playing a bit ago. The controls are very clunky going back. Hopefully that's been fixed a bit too. I can't wait for this game to come out on the switch. I have so many fond memories of this on my Mickey Mouse TV as a kid 😂
I was impressed at how many changes from Another Wonderful Life were carried over. Chapter length and a few other things. But I greatly look forward to the new game.
I'm interested in playing this but I'm also turned off by the new art style. It just looks like the new "story of seasons" style which has weird proportions and overall not a fan of it. i think there's a certain charm to the original a wonderful life art
That chicken bell is a Game Changer. Getting the chicken yard was still nearly pointless ‘cause it still kept the chickens too far away!! If you have a full coop, the rain shower might be over by the time you can drag all the chickens back inside, whoopsie daisy now there’s a risk of them getting sick, and to be stuck turning RIGHT back around and letting them out and HOPING IT DOESN’T RAIN AGAIN. It was NOT that risky to let my barn animals graze. I will never understand why they didn’t just put the Unusable Shed/Chicken Yard right next to the coop or…just make Upgrade The Coop to have a chickenyard attached to it!!!
I never got a chance to play AWL, so I am so glad that not only is it getting a remake, but that it's a good one! I'll def be playing this as soon as it comes out :D
I just found out they remade this & I have spent the last 2 days in a complete state of euphoria 😭❤️ this game was my entire childhood I hope they keep remaking the old games!!! We need a new tree of tranquillity & magical melody!!!! Please please please 🙏🏻🥺😍
This was my first harvest moon game as a kid! Loved it when we got the girl version. I remember that depending on who you married determined what task your son would do for you on the farm. I purposely got married to the guy whose son watered your plants 😅
The issue with a lot of Harvest Moon/SoS games is not that farm chores consume much time, I am thankful to the time saving QOL improvements but the real issue is the time and stamina limitations, it sometimes feel like playing Majoras Mask and not in the good way
Do we still have to meet the love interest at specific times to trigger the cutscenes? I had an old notebook with all the times and places.. wonder if it will still work 🤔
Don't misunderstand, I'm still absolutely going to play and enjoy this game a ton, but I must admit that I'm kinda disappointed with how bright and modern-anime it looks at a glance. Maybe I'm getting into the territory of someone obsessing over minute details, but there was something about GameCube AWL that felt so... dim. Calm. Like a softly glowing incandescent lamp in a Resident Evil Save Room. It was reminiscent of the aesthetic style of Shepherd's Crossing Ps2, another one of my favorite farming sim games. This remake looks very Animal Crossingified, if that makes any sense. Which isn't BAD, mind you, but I'm sad that we basically never see that more somber, quiet aesthetic that some older games had.
Yea. Nothing wrong with the new art but it doesn't really FEEL like A Wonderful Life. I feel like the colors need to be toned down and made more down to earth.
I was really excited for this but now I'm having second thoughts with all the changes they made to the core mechanics. Feels like the reasoning for interacting with the villagers is taking a step back since we can now purchase our upgrades it seems? Do we still get early access to things like the seed maker and hybrids if we befriend the corresponding villagers?
I did get the seed maker from Daryl year one by befriending! I technically could have bought it but now I can save my money for barn upgrades and the like. Also I think there are some tools and things exclusive to befriending villagers.
You should make a big video going through all differences from the original and remake. Also I like that you're able to bring your dog and cat into your house now, if you remember in the original they would jump out of your hands if you attempted to bring them into your home. Though if you sleep they get somehow spawn outside, guess your spouse kicked them out in the middle of the night, lol. Also they removed the feature of being able to push your animal out of the barn yard manual, and while it's not necessarily a convenient feature it had it's usage, for example if you had all your animals outside and a new one was brought in it'll be inside and you can push them outside to join the others. In the remake you'll have to ring the bell to bring all animals in and ring it again to get everyone outside. I also miss the tool shed and silo from the original. I hope they add a hardcore mode through an update or something to make it feel closer to the original like maybe bringing back animals getting sick and needing medicine and animal deaths as well as your cow not giving milk all the time, make money a tad harder to come by, and maybe even friendships go down if you don't interact with someone much. Just to add an additional but optional challenge to those who want that.
I played the heck out of the gamecube version i was not aware that one of the watering cans was supposed to cover more ground that would have been sweet.
The main thing I'm pissed and sad about is the lack of rival marriages. Like, I understand the removal of them in other games, a bit. Buuuut in AWL, you literally have to get married in the first year. You HAVE to. Meaning you can't date/marry past that. So taking out the rival marriages after year 1 is just absolutely boring and nonsensical! It takes some or the charm and character development away. I wish they'd add it back :(
the original is still my favourite Harvest Moon the QOL changes are pretty welcome as long as the game remains as relaxing and chill it's the vibes that keep me coming back to this one
Kinda making this separate from my weird ramblings I'm very impressed by some of the changes. It sounds like a large quality of life boost. I'm glad for what I'm guessing is the cooking system(I forgot stuff despite it having been only a bit after watching) were you can choose to cook without a recipe & gain it after cooking or just using recipes you get. I wasn't too happy with Mineral Town's remake removing that system & making it so you can only use recipes so this could be fun. I also couldn't help but watch the player character grow fruit trees in a clip & get apples. For some reason that made me hope for a remake of Harvest Moon Animal Parade. I'm a little desperate but I should just calm down & enjoy this game.
I've never played a game for from this franchise, in fact I didn't know about it until I played Stardew Valley and heard this franchise was a major influencer of it. I have been wanting to give this franchise a chance and the more I hear about it, the more I am looking forward to it. Biggest appeal for me is the social aspect and 'growing older'. As much as I love SD, my biggest issue is the fact you don't do much with your children. Quick question are there sprinklers in this game?
Ok. Looks great, and I loved the Original ALMOST as much as the SNES and N64 Harvest Moon games... Now... I hear they are also remaking my favorite Rune Factory Game as well(RF3)... heres hoping you do a vid on that as well. What I'd really like to see though? A remake of Innocent Life, With Tons of QoL upgrades... It was Harvest moon, Except you were a Robot. I never completed it, cause my PS2 Broke. While Harvest moon(now story of seasons) and Rune Factory have new games, and remakes, Innocent Life: A futuristic Harvest Moon Is the only Game in It's Spinoff Series. Also... I saw a HUGE upgrade you didn't mention. Auto-Collect. No more having to pick up and put away one item at a time, one bottle of milk at a time, etc... they pop out or fall to the ground, then it picks them up RPG Loot Style.
Absolute missed opportunity not to adapt content from the DS version of the game. It’s a remake after all. Btw you mentioned a good point about the Bachelors not being good-looking because originally Natsume didn’t plan on making a female version till after the success of More Friends in Mineral Town in GBA(technically the first female version).
Did they fix the fertilizer maker? It took soooo long in the original to make fertilizer : you had to put flowers in the thrash one by one and the animation would take 3-4 in-game minutes, and you could only take out 1 fertilizer at a time
Thanks for making this video! I do wish they added more to tbe remake, but happy they added what they did! I would love to see a video on what you would improve on the game.
I love this remake and kind of hope they make a direct sequel to this! For a remake this is fine but I feel they can definitely make one for a wonderful life.
5:25 is the horse customizable im assuming? or do you get different options when getting the horse? I gasped when i saw it wasn't just a boring brown. Also I'm assuming you only get the one horse? I know it's not necessary to have more than one but, it's something i had always hoped for the remake
I do not think I would mind the lack of content. I have never played the original before because I did not find the graphic and slow farming appealing, so I am glad to see the improvements. I do wished there were more marriage candidates because I am really not attached to any of the current ones.
Not a fan of the new horse design, he's too chonky/goofy looking for me personally, i loved the original regular horse design/color. Also I'm a bit sad how much they redid Cody, I know to make him a marriage candidate they needed to adjust him a bit, but I'll be honest I really liked his big, tall kind've wild design in the original. He looked intimidating but was really a sweetheart, plus I'm a sucker for the "gentle giant" trope 😅 Loving all the other improvements though! Can't wait to play this!
I like the original characters. The world will feel nostalgic. The improvements are good. Maybe dlc? House customization and more on kids and spouse expansions..expand the mining system..New events.

@@Moonbutnosun animal parade was one of the best!
@@dzglms yesssss the art brings so much charm
I loved magical melody
I appreciate this remake so much. It still has the same magic as the original but with so many improvements. I’m very happy with it and have been playing everyday
A little disappointed in the visuals as I liked the originals darker look but it still looks good. Can't wait for the western release!
Same here! The graphics are too lacking in detail for me but still happy they are doing this game!
I was thinking the same thing! The overly bright colors take away the sense of warmth and envelopment I feel playing the original.
I know everything is about money so they want things to be "safe" but how cool would if be to have a rated teen harvest moon game? It doesn't need to be M (that would be neat tho), I just want some dark aspects of life and a slightly more realistic look to the game. Almost dark fantasy like.
and they remove alcohol drink from the bar and even change it to cafe
@@misterlove7895
Why da fuq
I just really dislike how vibrant it is. I much preferred the more earthy tone of the original. And, I’ve always disliked the character and animal designs.
I’m still buying it, but those two things really bother me.
Maybe we can change the settings on our TVs to turn down the brightness and color.
@@radmune5 i get you what you mean, a more cozy and rustic look with a less saturated color pallete.
Great vid, Josh! I'm just happy to be able to play A Wonderful Life tbh, but I do enjoy the changes that were made!
I'm so excited for this game. Never did I think one of my favorite GameCube games would get a remake!
I remembered playing countless hours in this game. I loved selling stuff in the afternoon near the bar haha, talking to people passing by and selling stuff.
Can you still unlock all the little critters? I remember being a kid and losing my mind at the little bandanas on the wild animals around the village
I can’t talk to Pui I had to start picturing him as Murrey’s relative cause I hate thinking how they butchered my friend
I was hoping for 2 new characters like FoMT
Me too
I’m excited to try it when it comes out! I’d love to see a video on what you don’t like about it!
At 10:22 You showed, but did not acknowledge the fact that they got rid of Bruce Campbell
I really hope they one day recreate the Nintendo 64 one! The egg festival and harvest festival where my FAVORITE. I hope they keep the layout and everything the same and just make it 3D. I’d probably cry if they did cus I loved that game SO MUCH!!
I LOVE Harvest Moon 64. One of my favorites.
Back to Nature DOES have more content, but it felt like a downgrade in many ways.
Hey Josh. Found a cute little game that I think really flew under the radar when it first released. It’s called Bear and Breakfast and after playing it I think it’d be right up your alley.
And ooblets to , that is also a loving game
He’s already played those games. Yes even ooblets.
Frame rate is bad on PS2 GameCube is a more powerful console so the game runs better on there but PS2 has the most content of the 2
Yeah there was a bad issue with all PS2 versions 😢
Does anyone know if your player character still dies of old age? I find that Feature extremely fascinating
Looks like the biggest upgrade was turning Gustafa and Cody into dreamboats
I would love a video on the downgrades or negatives as well to compare!
I never got a chance to play AWL, so I am so glad that not only is it getting a remake, but that it's a good one! I'll def be playing this as soon as it comes out :D
So far my only real complaint is some of the character redesigns. The originals had character.
Excited for this one to get ported to the US. This was one of my favorite games growing up so I'm stoked for all the updates they've done
Currently playing the GC HM and enjoying it, did these improvements remind me of thr first time i played HM on SNES, this is such a great game😊
I just found out they remade this & I have spent the last 2 days in a complete state of euphoria 😭❤️ this game was my entire childhood I hope they keep remaking the old games!!! We need a new tree of tranquillity & magical melody!!!! Please please please 🙏🏻🥺😍
The running speed is a huge improvement, too!
This was my first harvest moon game as a kid! Loved it when we got the girl version. I remember that depending on who you married determined what task your son would do for you on the farm. I purposely got married to the guy whose son watered your plants 😅
Are the marriage candidates interesting? I remember hating all the guys in the original.
They are now look handsome, and even turned one previous NPC into a bachelor.
@@nidohime6233 Yeah but are they interesting to talk to?
The dialogues and personality of the characters are pretty similar to what they were in the original.
@@nidohime6233 Yeah, It's weird how they made Cody a bachelor & not either Griffin or Carter since the latter 2 were actual bachelors in DS Cute.
The issue with a lot of Harvest Moon/SoS games is not that farm chores consume much time, I am thankful to the time saving QOL improvements but the real issue is the time and stamina limitations, it sometimes feel like playing Majoras Mask and not in the good way
I would love to hear the downgrades
I was hoping to have better festivals but everything else sounds amazing. I love the way the different seasons look
I loved this one growing up, but I loved trio of towns and tale of two towns.
Tale of two towns was my absolute favorite one
Love this in depth analysis, thank you! I've seen a lot of channels talk about whats new or improved but not actually show a comparison.
Do we still have to meet the love interest at specific times to trigger the cutscenes? I had an old notebook with all the times and places.. wonder if it will still work 🤔
They definitely could have included some of the festivals from HMDS/DS Cute, but I’m still excited to pick up this game!
What you like most about the remake
Never got to play the original version so I'm excited to play the remake
One of my fave games as a kid. Can’t wait to play the update
@juniperbugbear Yeah I ended up getting the seed maker in spring year one so I'm very happy to see that! Maybe I jumped the gun with my concerns.
My childhood wish of having Flora as an option remains unanswered...
I wish they'd add it back :(
Did the original have rival marriage? I didnt play it, but I loved the idea in HM DS
the original is still my favourite Harvest Moon
the QOL changes are pretty welcome as long as the game remains as relaxing and chill
it's the vibes that keep me coming back to this one
Kinda making this separate from my weird ramblings
I'm very impressed by some of the changes.
The biggest reason for me is because they remove the lag feature on original version into this remake version 😂
Finally got this game and was disappointed by the graphics. Fomt is so cute. This game looks like a low budget gamecube game
"Don't go into this expecting it to be busy like Pioneers of Olive Town"
THANK GOD
I wish we didn't have to wait so long for the English version to come out, I'm gonna get this game on day one
Oh, wow! With the modern improvements. I’ll actually be able to enjoy the game.
The art style of the original was way better frfr
Absolute missed opportunity not to adapt content from the DS version of the game. It’s a remake after all. Btw you mentioned a good point about the Bachelors not being good-looking because originally Natsume didn’t plan on making a female version till after the success of More Friends in Mineral Town in GBA(technically the first female version).
I was worried about same sex marriage not being an option. what an improvement.
The wait is killing me lol I can't wait to play it and see how it feels. I'd also watch a video on the downgraded elements, I'm so curious
Wonderful Life was my first love of HM games, so I have to wait for the PC release :C
I love HM and have played it on almost every platform it's on. The changes and updates make me crave playing it again! ❤
5:25 is the horse customizable im assuming? or do you get different options when getting the horse? I gasped when i saw it wasn't just a boring brown. Also I'm assuming you only get the one horse? I know it's not necessary to have more than one but, it's something i had always hoped for the remake
when you get the horse, you get a choice between three different colours
@@PugandOwn awesome thank for the info, im assuming the third horse color is black?
@@okami9020 yes. brown, white, or black.
@@PugandOwn ty again, man this game just cant come fast enough for me :(
I can't wait until Harvest Moon comes with sprinkers, drones and combineharvesters
You did a good job making yourself as a character!
Are the crops now more valuable? And could you do the villager sequences in heaven mode?
so if i understand correctly then after i beat the game i can play forever on my farm without game over as many years as i want ?
One thing I immediately dislike about the remake are the graphics. I prefer the old graphics, just with an upscaled resolution.
Thank you for this video, its just making me even more excited for A Wonderful Life to come to the west!! 🥰
As long as the Ruby spice glitch still works
Do they still have the hidden diaries you can check for
The tool changes is my favorite update.
Did they fix Nami leaving the baby home alone and leaving the valley?
I want to see Hero of Leaf Valley or Innocent Life remake!
Dang young me always wrote down the recipes. Guess there's no need for that anymore.
Also they changed Lumina a bit but they may be for the best.
