I have no reason to know how to do this but it’s so cool to see behind the scenes
same here. its just plain fascinating
Me third
You missed two vital parts of this build.
1. Never wear actual shoes for building rotaries, Crocs or Sandals only
2. The torque sequence tattoo on your wrist!
You forgot one
Get you a Mochi
Step 1: buy rotary
Step 2: blame Alex seals and leave it alone
Step 3: go to car events and tell everyone you are building 4rotor
I wish I can rebuild a rotary so bad while being guided step by step with John && Mike
I really like how this shows the process from the very beginning. You don’t just start with fresh rotors and start building. Thanks man
I wish you did more of this, and more drifting
Drifting soon and a 20b rebuild
Sweet this makes things a lot easier for when it comes to rebuilding my 12a. Cheers for sharing your knowledge.
If you build rotaries you have to have some degree of O.C.D
And hearing loss
The one thumb down is probably the guy who rebuilt it 😂
NBSFredo nah it’s the guy who says that rotaries are bad and that everything should be LS swapped even lawn mowers because he’s the asshole mowing at 6 in the morning on a Saturday
@@harleypickin217 I fucking lost it reading this hahaha
Watching any master engine builder at work is always a pleasure. As a conventional 4 cyl “basher” these amazing engines look like something from another planet! Great to watch, thanks for posting.
a live q and a would be the shit!
This is the best "rebuild" vid I've ever seen, hands down. Hell, I actually finished it at normal playback lol. Ya'll are killin it, keep it up!
During timelapse you can slow down the playback speed to .25 and it clearly shows every step. Great job man!
I've never clicked a video harder in my life.
Now This type of content is what I subscribed for...
Honestly who am I kidding...
I only return for our boy
*mochii!!!*
14:56 that silicon squeezer tool tho!
Best shit ever 👏🏽
I need like 5. I'd use one for toothpaste too. Damn dentists want to rip me off eh?
This is such awesome content man. I have learned so much about the rotary from you. I have a whole new found respect for the rotary thanks to the Dorito king.
This shows how detail oriented a builder needs to be in order to build a solid rotary. Thanks for giving your hard work to the car community! Good stuff!!!
I've seen you build rotaries in at least 4 different videos and I'll keep watching you build rotaries #rotarypapi
🙏🏽
You do this so well without being obnoxious, unlike some other build channels. Sometimes too much talk takes away from the learning expierence.
I don't know a darn thang about rotor engines..... Now I'm learning 👍😎👍 Hello from S.Carolina.
Cletus sent me your way👍
Angel Motorsports that is awesome I've never seen a rotary engine rebuilt in my lifetime I've always wondered how they run thank you very much Happy New Year
This brotha rebuilt the rotary with one arm. Hell yeah can't wait to send #angelmotorsport my motor to be built and built strong 💪,
Damn you make it look easy buddy
Y'all are making me want to get hold of a junker one of these engines and take a stab at cleaning/rebuilding it. They're not SIMPLE, but they're also not as complex as I would have thought
phoenix rising DO NOT try any kind of Porting, it is an extremely precise and sometimes proprietary process and must be done by a cnc, the water & oil jackets are extremely thin in parts.
@@JesusisJesus Funny, engines floating around all over the place with basic porting done by hand....
Great video Vargus. I just have one small request, could you make a super in-depth assembly video of the rotary with, the little inside tricks to the tear-down, to assembling the rotors and such. I think a great in-depth 3 part video that would be, the end all be all video, that would teach us how to build these great "brap, brap" machines.
lol the stance beside the engine at the end was golden!
This video made my birthday 15x better
HBD!! 🥳
Happy bday !
This episode needs 100% more mochi
Best rotary videos on UA-cam for sure
Just lost my E46 to a buy back for the Takata recall. Good time for an RX8 I'm thinking ;) Love watching what you guys do
Was this a 12A or 13B and are there any differences in the rebuilding process between the two?
This was a 13b , the difference of the 12a is that the water seals go on the housings not the steels
So awesome that you and brad have been uploading stuff after build and battle. Love watching you guys do anything
ight imma head out and rebuild my engine now. thanks for the video
I'll own a rx8 and a rx7 so these types of videos are always awesome to see thanks
Legendary. Build n battle will not be the same.
Angel this is the best detail video on how to rebuild a rotary great job explaining the process. 👍🇵🇷
🔥came thru again hoping you'd make one of thesez thanks man for turning me on to rx7s👍
I like these "break it down" vids , gets me learnt for my 85 gsl coming soon ! The music was dope af as well vargas 🤙
keep wid tha content only channel u get to see all the levels of style ownership ot a rotary whip and the he life of
Man if you dont mind me asking what is that solution your using to clean the rotor?
I didn’t know I needed to watch an actual rotary master do an in-depth breakdown of a rebuild, but here I am, sitting at work learning.
Good !!! Its nice to know that its not a science. Hopefully some day i will use this video to repair my first rotary engine. Saludos 🇵🇷🇵🇷
Lmao on my channel no one believed me that you can reuse all the side seals with springs, apex seals with springs and oil control rings, as long as they meet the tolerances lol
Great video 🙌
Hope one day i can visit you with my carburated rx8
Sometimes I re use side seals sand corner seals but never the springs
nice to see someone assemble the rotors, most videos i see skip that part.
Sweet, now i have a good 'How to' for the Winter were I want rebuild my RX-8 engine!👌
Awesome Video!
Much respect to the rotary Papi this jus want me to get a rotary. Let the master do his work and see how this engine can do alot but by him cuz its worthy jus how im watchng this.💯💯💯
Hey man, cool to see your own channel. Been watching you with the Hoonigan crew for a while now. Look forward to seeing more of yall and Mochi!
What fluid is that brush/hose appliance spraying onto the rotor for cleaning? it seems to work really well whatever it is
just degreaser
Angel Motorsports makes sense thanks
Hey man, I was just rewatching hoonigans DT episode 159 again. I just had to let you know you killed that. Its almost at 1million views!!!
🙏🏽🙏🏽
Hello and welcome to garaje garaje, today we are rebuilding a Dorito boi. Also where's my Mochi tax bro, needs more Mochi, we all know hes the one doing all the hard work.
Thanks John for taking the time to show every1 how not to give up on cars and helping people with free knowledge to keep there race car dreams achievable. Man I love the music and y'all be funny sometimes. #MochiMotors #MazdaRotory #MazdaRacing #AngelMotorsport
Yeah boy I've been waiting for weeks to shake it, the best Musica in the vlogs from the nor cal budda ,amen
What did you clean the carbon off with? Planning to build a motor soon!
Awesome mate after watching the build now I know how much work is involved, your definitely the rotor king
Please, could you tell me immediately which glue/silicone You used for example at 13:02? Will it endure a high temperatures(how many celsius do they have?) generated inside combustion chamber? Where'd You bought a main parts for restoration(it means those gaskets/seals)? Thanks for attention.
Music in your vids is on point as always
What do you use in your parts washer? Looks like it moves the crap pretty well!
I have to say thanks again my Grandfather and I are just waiting on some parts for the RX8 and it should be done by Christmas. We hope XD
Loved the inclusion of the music, it feels like rotary building tunes XD
So what did you soak the rotors in, and which rebuild kit would you recommend? I have a 13b ive been neglecting to rebuild for months
Do another one of these videos. Such good info
Vargas do you have a spotify playlist for your salsa music?
excellent musical taste as always , tks from quebec
Time to get Bad Dad Braddy to rebuild one!
Blue Demon in the cut, wutup John keep dropping knowledge pai.
Your gun for the liquid gasket looks neat
Vargas has great taste in music
Do you use stock apex seals? Or are there others you would recommend?
can you do another eebuild video ! it just doesnt get boring. step by step
great video keep up the good work
I’m doing a 20b next 😬
@@angelmotorsports sweet! cant wait.
notification on high volume. I'll stay tuned
So you can reuse the rings and springs even if they are bent? Guessing unless the cracked or are really twisted. They will be fine?
would a brass bristle brush be safer for cleaning the rotor surfaces?
That’s what I was using
What’s your criteria for replacing the piston inside the rotor or keeping it?
Good video! Thanks for sharing your secrets of the mad scientist way
Like watching the build. Hope you make more! =)
How many times did your check your tat during the torquing sequence? =)
4 times
A few things you breezed over in video, the fine adjustments to the apex seals during assembly of the engine, not showing how clean you made all the grooves by hand, how much assembly lube to use, torque settings and sequence.
I wish I had one to build along side this video. Here in New Zealand you can find heaps of small shops like yours. You should come over, maybe hoonigan could hook you up?
I doubt they take me with lol I’m
Too unpredictable for them
Would an ultrasonic cleaner work better for those rotors?
Everything it works
Have you ever heard an ultra sound cleaner running 😂😂 I’ll rather do it by hand
@@angelmotorsports yeah, they sound just like a Rotary in the burn yard!
Always gotta have salsa music playing well building a rotary engine 🤘🤘🤘( OG's knows what's up )... John you should of put Mochi to work or did the master tuner didnt wanna give up his secrets .. WATS GOOD MOCHIBUTT...!!!
I have been inspired to build a rotary now😂
Even though I have no mechanical experience
‘How to rebuild a rotary’:
I’ll take on a 5 gallon bucket for $420 Alex.
Made my day
What I would love is if you guys would show how you put the assembled engine back in the car and hook everything up. I just bought a s4 turbo II and I’m going to need to do this sooner or later. First step is disconnecting everything and pulling it out, people seem to ignore that part of it in instructional videos
Well those came out really clean
You did a wonderful job
I'm so happy that you guys are working on my fc I know she's in good hands 😀
Still looks intimidating to rebuild one as a amateur at home in the garage. Haha Great video and content as always! Long live Doritos 😁
What r u using for solvent in your wash tank? Looks to work awesome on loosening carbon. I’ve switched to using evaporust, but it will actually etch and pit steel or aluminum if you leave it in too long, also will eat the holding tank if it’s a steel tank... ask me how I know lol
Just purple degreaser from
Home Depot
When you're putting the water seals in the housing I noticed there's something in the groove. Is that a sealant or is it just grease to hold the seals in during assembly?
Hylomar to hold the seals
Listening to this as I assemble some American V8's
But it's all love brotha!
I did in school years ago lol
you da realist ma friend
Great tutorial, Mike. Definately a reference video for future builds, thank you.
Canada racing joy Mike is Jon’s brother.....
Awkward
@@ElkinsEric My bad, thanks Eric.
Lol what y’all don’t like Mike?
Angel Motorsports actually I do. He’s got that quiet deadpan sense of humor and seems to know as much about these magic rotary things as you do.
5:54 what is the thing shooting out? Oil or dark chemical?
Dirty degreaser lol
@@angelmotorsports damn I've never seen that before lmao and I use to work at a detail shop 🤣
Listen to that sink man brrapping in the background
What's the difference between the front and rear rotor, why would it be bad if you were to confuse the two?
Hector lavoe en el fondo 🎶🎶
Rotors and sandles I like your style
Really get down to business, love the content man 🤙🏼 Def gonna own a rotary because of you 😂💯
Nice! I rebuild mostly LS engines but I’ve always wanted to get an FD as a project car, I just don’t know shit about rotary’s. Learning more & more about them though the more I watch your vids! I’m definitely going to get one one of these days. Seems like there’s a lot that has to be really precise, but definitely looks fun nonetheless.
1:03 it says the oil control rings are really sharp. That is no joke! I should have known this when I was cleaning them last time. I noticed there were holes in my gloves. Then I pulled off the gloves and noticed there were also holes in my thumbs LOL
Hight adjustable engine stand would be super neat when the working height changes as you add layers😏
5 gallon bucket works better
Picked up a 13b from the junkyard, to crash course myself.
You got a spotify playlist for all these bangers you rockin john?
Yeah yeah yeah
Nah Spotify played me years back
