I just wanted to say thank you for all the informative videos. I just sealed my first rebuild on my RX8 and I watched many of your videos in order to get to that point. Cheers to rotary power!
I’d love to see a in depth guide on how to inspect your rotors, housings etc to see if they’re re useable/worn. Great video regardless, love the channel
Finished watching to find out I screwed up taking off the oil pump, didn't know I didn't have to take off that one locked bolt. Glad this came out before I placed my mazdatrix order!
I tore down my WRX engine in the living room the day I got my car home almost 5 years ago 😂 my wife was not happy. We have a 3 year old now so I might have to go onto the patio for my next project, but I will not let living in an apartment stop me from being a technician or an engine builder.
Thanks for this. I have a 12A from a partout I tore down and tucked in a corner of the garage when I discovered the housings were toast. I need to clean the rest of it for long term storage. I was thinking of starting the rotors in a carb dip bucket to minimize the abrasive work necessary to get the carbon off.
Thanks for the videos. I have been working on vehicles for a long time. I have never messed with a Rotory engine before. A friend of mine bought one. I didn't want to work on it because I knew nothing about them. I couldn't walk away. Thanks to some of your videos I have made it to a point not wanting to mess anything up. I have it running but it won't idle. It has alot of the same parts you do on one of your cars. I would appreciate any advice on making it run better. I am very intrigued by the rotory engine. I would like to own one someday. Thanks, and keep up the good work on your videos.
Just a suggestion for a wheel that won't damage the aluminum housings would be the 3M roloc bristle discs. They have different grades, a green, white or yellow, but many different grits within those. These are much safer on aluminum than even the most worn steel wheels. Just an FYI for future cleaning. Great video and information BTW
Absolutely spoiling us with the upload frequency. How's the progress on that bigger shed you were talking about a while back? Would love to see what you can do with more space for tools and projects.
so i know this is specifically the 13B but i have just taken apart a 79 12A and had a coolant seal leak. i’m new to rotary builds, this is my first attempt and i want to replace all of the seals. what is the most reputable place to get a rebuild kit from? the RADPotential videos have gotten me this far so i figured i’d reach out😂
Thanks for the video, great knowledge, also I got all my rx8 rotor seals from Atkins rotary and it isn’t making enough compression is there anyway I can increase compression? Trust me I know it’s the seals
Disassemble, clean, and inspect the oil pump. They do fail on occasion and when one does you lose the whole engine. The rotors will warp destroying the rotors, side housings, and eccentric shaft. Those round things that have rubber o-rings in them and are pressed into the sides of the rotors with springs under them are called oil control rings. They are not housings.
What would you recommend for paint that's on the irons? The prior owner had painted it & its flaking off & looks like shit, I sprayed it with a high pressure power washer & that got about half of it off so I nd the restbof it off & you probably know what's the best thing to use, thanks in advance
This is exactly the video i needed, exactly when I needed it. I didnt coat e shaft in oil after disassembly and it got a small coat of surface rust. I think itll be fine but something id recommend avoiding :)
@@RADPotential that is cool I'm been waiting for long time I love your videos I own a FB 6 port turbo u can check it out on my channel but it need couple little details to be ready plus I just move in Crossville I hope one day I can meet you and keep the good work rotary for life
Didn’t keep my side seals in order during disassembly… kept the separated from each rotor but not in order for each rotor. Irons have some oil ring wear and will be checking flatness tonight… what do you think new side seals or send it with these ones?
Ive just bought an rx8 and the previous owner said that the large oil leak is coming from a oil dowel. Any idea what might cause that and how to fix? Didnt know if it was a common problem or not. Thanks
If it's leaking from the rear of the engine under the oil filter. It could be. But I hardly see rx8s breaking irons. I'd check your oil cooler lines and the oil filter pedestal O Rings first
Awesome tech tip video. 💪🏼💪🏼. What other products would you recommend to clean rotors that have good bearings. I was planning to use diesel. What are your thoughts?
Do you have any experience with turbo charging a NA 6 port, i know swapping is easier but things are different in Europe price wise. Care to do a video about that? :)
I forgot something. Throughly clean the inside of the rotor where the cooling oil is sprayed. One little piece of grit in there will damage or even destroy a side housing and rotor.
can we do a video series with my '79, one-owner? I've got the engine & trans out by local shop by their RX-7 guy who then disappeared. I'll trailer it all to ya and put up in a hotel while we git 'er done. Just a thought. Views!!! lol
I drop my rotors in a bucket of purple power and leave em set for a day then pull em out and you can spray all the carbon off with the faucet in your kitchen
@@RADPotential I always figured it was “R.A.D. Potential.” Meaning Rotaries And Domestics, seing as you own a Vett AND rotary powered cars. Really enjoyed the cleaning process, do you think the good old toothbrush would be an option for some of those nooks and crannies and do you use a torch or worklight to check the side seal grooves for carbon?

Coming soon!!!!! Based around an rx8 engine
So thankful this got uploaded. Currently in the middle of cleaning my 12a and needed some reassurance!

I also built my sti engine on my coffee table last year on the 3rd floor of my old apartment!!

I second the nut on the oil pump gear. Did it once big pain to get back.
these videos are so valuable, I'm saving them for the future when i have room for a project, thanks man

I've got a lot of balls in the air. But I'll keep you updated as things start moving!!
would you be able to use evapo rust on irons, when they are really gunked up with rust due to sitting improperly for a long time?

what was your side seal clearance? and what corner seals did you use? How is the condition of the housing?

did you see the new Rx30SUV car Mazda put out with the new bigger rotor 830CC ??? will you make an engine out of it ???
If i can get my hands on one. Sure!
Fine Brass is the way to go. Those red or blue nylon brushes actually remove material.
Thanks for the real-world tutorial
Love the vids man! If you had a bigger ultrasonic tank, would there be any reason to not put the irons and housings in there?
Hey what ultrasonic cleaner do you have? Thanks

Can you use carburetor cleaner? And then pressure wash the heck out of them
Nylon wire brush, lot better on aluminum...my two cents
I found sand in my 13b’s coolant jackets too is that common?
Do y'all rebuild for customers also?
You need to make a video of putting a in tank pump on a FB to convert to fuel injection
I'm doing it as we speak haha!!! Might be a week or so before it comes out!

Hear me out…random thought 😮…Rx8 side plates ported.. exhaust and intake with PP housings and ex port …could this be a thing ?!?
Amazing. Thank you so much😊

Diesel or kerosene would work. I'm just not into the smell haha

More great tips! Thanks Erich! Are you using mineral spirits in the sonic parts cleaner?
I've got some parts cleaner from the parts store in it. But I have also had good luck with using simple green as well
Thanks!!!
Thanks 👍🙏

Good Content

People be lazy and just do Italian tuneups hahaha! Still it's great to see rotary content, hopefully rotaries do make comebacks
Winter projects.
it's brap potential, not rad potential
Starting with what I know. But my goal isn't to limit myself to rotary stuff only
