  • I'd like to introduce you to pani puri. pani = hindi for water
puri = the light crispy round balls
The puri are stuffed with a chickpea mixture, dipped in the liquid (which can take on an assortment of seasonings), and placed one at a time on your plate, meant to be placed/stuffed whole in the mouth. Simply stand there and eat until you can't eat no more. Then you finish with a dry one.
there's a wonderful documentary on water. can be watched here: • Video - anyway, i mention it because it speaks a lot about the properties of water such as memory and sensitivity to vibrations and communication between bodies of water (including the water in your body!) in this sense, it matters what an individual brings to the experience. in my case, i am a traveler and i ate this food with out any illness. sometimes travelers also have a compromised immune system just because travel can take it out on you. in either case, if one is afraid, better to not do it because in my experience it is an important variable determining how the interaction with food born pathogens plays out within a body.

Honestly, I respect the fact that you are ignoring and not being influenced by these negative comments. I am sure that yo had a fun time in India. I am Canadian, and this summer I am heading to India. Doesn't matter what people say I am still going to eat pani puri and have fun. India is great!

  • @BangMaster96

Indian people can bear this food because they have a strong immune system, hence our food on the street is ok for us to eat, but those who come from out side of India must wait at least 10 days to get used to the atmosphere, and then try going to good and clean restaurants and places to eat, there are thousands of places where you can find clean meal.
After all India is a lot of fun for anyone, there is no place on Earth like India, we have crowded cities to isolated Himalayas where you can live in noise to living in complete isolation and peace. WE have the best food to offer, and we Indians are very nice to foreigners, you will never find an Indian who is rude to a foreigner because in India we all have a saying that we follow,
Guests are to be highly respected, and our foreigner guests will enjoy a good time being in India.

She is living life to the fullest, trying new places and food! I travel all over the world in my work as a surgeon and have NEVER (yet) been sick from street food! You just have to watch to make sure it's not crawling with bugs! My next stop is India for work and food and adventure!! THANKS FOR THE VIDEO!!

India is just not like any other country, they call it a sub-continent. Its so diverse in all the ways, say like Europe (i presume a lot more diverse than Europe as well). The culture, food, language, dressing, manners, terrains, changes every 500 kms in India.
We have close to 800 languages in India, so you can very well assume how different are we Indians from one another.
Say for instance I am from Bihar, 'Angika' is my mother tongue, speak 'Hindi' in general: right now I am staying in Hyderabad, where they speak 'Telugu' - which I don't understand, they eat different food, use different spices, celebrate different festivals. I studied in Manipal, where they speak 'Tulu', which again I dint understand.
So you see to be able to see India, and to be able to form an opinion about India - you should travel across all parts of India. In some parts you will come across poverty (like in my state - Bihar, Bengal, Orissa and also in Varanasi), while in Other parts your experiences will be entirely different.
If you wish to explore India comprehensively, I suggest plan a trip of more than 2 months.
Itinerary - land in Delhi spend 2-3 days there, head to hills (Rishikesh, Kullu, Manali, Dharamshala: 1 week) - then go to Leh-Ladhak (motor bike - hire a bullet: 3 days) and then experience a bit of Punjab (Amritsar and Wagah: 2 days). You will get exhausted after that, so straight away head to GOA (relax, unwind at its beaches, go scuva diving, try some weed, offshore gambling and all: 5 days). Then try Kerala (goto Kochi, Munnar/Coorg/Wayanad : 3-4 days) then you should try Karnataka (Silicon of the East-Bangalore, spend 2 days in Bangalore then visit Mysore/Hampi: 3 days). And if you are coming in Winters then head to Tamil Nadu (Chennai, Pondicherry/Madurai) from Bangalore: 2 days and then goto Andhra Pradesh (Vishakhapatnam:1 day). After that head to Orissa (Bhubaneswar and Puri: 2 days). Visit Bengal from here (Kolkata and Darjelling: 3 days). Explore the North East India (Kyongnosla, Majuli, Mechuka, Dawki, Moirang, Shillong: 10 days). Then come the challenging part try Bihar & Uttar Pradesh (Patna, Gaya, Varanasi, Luckhnow and Agra for Tajmahal: 7 days). Go to Rajasthan from Agra (Jaipur, Jodhpur/Jaiselmer, Udaipur, Pushkar: 1 week) and then head to Gujarat (Ahemdabad, Rann of Kutch, Daman & Diu: 2 days). Finish your Travel in Maharashtra (Ratnagiri, Pune, Mumbai: 5 days). Spend atleast 3 days in Mumbai, experience its night life and Bollywood and then fly back home.
Then in you next trip plan for Andaman & Nicobar and Lakhsdweep. Its always advisable to befriend someone of your own age in India for any help, write to me on rakeshchandravanshi@gmail.com for any help if you coming to Hyderabad. Cheers!!

actually gol gappe or Tikia are served in many varieties 1. With Water(Made by some masala and little acid) 2. with water and chutni (sauce) sauce are of two different varieties first one have sweet taste and the second one has spice taste. 3. with water, chutney and potato Paste (boiled potato are messed and some masala are mixed in it)
    4. with water, chutney, potato paste and chole.
now a days in 2015 people also try tikia with different liquids like coke, vine, etc. but they do this generally at home not on streets lol ;)
I hope all this helped :)

In kolkata we dont call it pani puri.. We call it Fuchka.. Btw sorry to hear that your friends got sick..well because its spicy as hell.. Like ghost pepper hot.. I'm from Kolkata so my advice if you are not used to spicy food don't try it.. But since you are in Kolkata you can try the alternate version.. Its called Dai Fuchka.. Its basically sweet and sour its much smoother and almost spice less.. :)

Tohru Watanabe Maybe because of tamarind which is used in the liquid. You will be fine after first 3-4 times. It is natural, such things happens for first time.

    • @embeddedprojects2099
      @embeddedprojects2099 9 років тому +1

Tohru Watanabe yes you are right there are lots of food available on street but one must ask local people for hygienic food, panipuri can easily get contaminated, so I would recommend before trying indian street food observe how he is cooking, is he clean etc so you can avoid risk of getting sick.

I'm touched as an Indian that you weren't turned off by the fact that the dude didn't wear gloves. It is a little unhygienic but your stomach gets used to it if you have been living in India for a long time and please don't try this in your initial days here. There are many "Gupchup" or "Puchka" vendors who uphold the hygiene standards Westerners are used to in their country but it will be 3-4 times costlier which I am sure will cost them way less than the medications they will have to buy if they catch a Traveller's diarrhoea.

well i'm asking, cuz i did myself. I used to eat out once a week or so and had diarhea for the longest time ever. Turned out, i had gotten hepatitis and jaundice. I lost 30lbs in a month and felt like i was going to die. however, i did get treatment and now i'm better. but even after 10 years i still feel abdominal pain from eating certain grains and vegetables. My immune system is so weak, i can tell how drained my body feels & i'm just in my 20's. I can never forget what i went through.

The seller uses bare hands to take the food, dip into the water, and hand it to customer's plate. It's different culture.
