An exercise i see nobody talking about is deficit push ups. It's like doing dumbbell press but with your own bodyweight, it gave me massive strength and mass gains (i did declined with a weightvest), and to do them you just need 2 chairs.
I did weighted deficit push ups for years and only started dumbbell pressing last year and the press works way better for me personally. Weighted push ups or dips are good to switch it up every now and again to push past a plateau though.

I absolutely agree, in calisthenics, I’m only doing maintenance while doing 250 normal pushups 5 days a week, so I either have to do more or add weight, I don’t have a vest so I use an old backpack and put plates in it
That works but you could also do HIT bodybuilding with calisthenics. Super slow reps taken all the way to failure once. You get bigger stronger muscles that way without needing high volume or adding weight. There is no method that’s superior, in the end of the day, as long as it allows you to build muscle you’re building general strength. There’s also no exercise that’s “functional” the skill from doing a pull-ups doesn’t transfer to everyday life, it will make you better at doing pull-up though. What you’re thinking of is the strength and muscle you gain from the exercise which does transfer to other things, but any resistance training exercise can provide strength and muscle increases, so there’s no such thing as functional exercise.
If you do HIT with calisthenics you will definitely need to add weight as you get stronger in the exercise. It's not a very practical method when it comes to classic calisthenics, but surely can be done with weights and weighted cali
I think doing HIT with calisthenics is kind of counterproductive considering that forcing volume past failure is rather complicated to do, not to mention that you recover and get through a set quickly in calisthenics anyways.
@@ogprimal6159nah he injured his rotator cuff when he did it sadly there’s a huge risk to doing weighted dips but there are a lot of benefits to them as well

Try ring pushups standing on a box. Imo if not for lack of method to add resistance it's a perfect press. You get a deeper stretch than a dB press.
