Now that I have an old (2001) Jaguar with ll kinds of sensors I'm just learning about all these new scan tools. This video contains information that I haven't seen anywhere else. Thanks. Now considering the new D7S.
@@BuckyGsGWDeermouse Thanks for the nice words about this video. The new D7S should be a great scan tool. In fact, I am waiting for one to arrive here at my place and then a review video should follow shortly after.... Within a a few weeks, anyway. Be sure to check it out if you haven't already purchased your own D7S by then. Thanks again.
I was very surprised to find all these functions in my D7 after the updates. I found that it was able to match the ODIS (VW factory scan tool) in capability and run circles around it in speed and ease of use.
I agree. The latest update probably makes this scan tool the most capable scan tool for the least amount of money on the market today. That can always change down the road, but TODAY this is probably the best deal going right now. Thanks for the comment.
And with 3 yrs of updates, the d7 may get even better over those 3yrs to be more like the d8 started out. I think this tool will be sufficient for my diy needs. If I were planning to buy a scan tool for a job or to run a business id invest in the best product they sell but not for just personal use.
Just downloaded the recent revision and it was V4.31.5 and I can't wait to run it on my vehicles thank you very much for making this so easy fantastic video....
I've been contemplating between the two versions, but this video made my decision easier. I don't really need the ECU coding of the d8. So I ordered the D7 instead. I only wish it had the Bluetooth dongle, but for $300 less I'll live without it. Can't wait to get my hands on it when it arrives 😁
I do agree.... I personally prefer a wireless scan tool. However, if you scroll down to the video description, or the first pinned comment below the video I have listed a couple of inexpensive OBD2 extension cables. The extension cable links are below the discount codes. This way you can move around the vehicle (under the hood, etc) while still being attached with a cable. It kinda gives you the best of both worlds. I hope you enjoy the new scan tool! Thanks for the comment!
thx for this info. TU... that's good news i just pulled the trigger on this. 250 -350 less. i can live without BT much faster any way. though less memory and battery life.but well worth it.
I agree, this particular scan tool is in the "sweet spot" right now. Best value with the most features and functions VS price. (at this time anyway) Thanks!
@@SlipFitGarage is definitely a graduation from sub 400 scanners dressed to look like pro scanners but are just code readers with very basic live data and maybe few reset functions at best.
Do you mean D7? (not X7) If you're new to scan tools then it can take a little bit to get familiar with them. I'm sure you'll get the hang of it quickly.
I noticed my a30m updated and im pretty sure the expected values in live data is new. Which is very nice to compare actual value to expected value. Im looking into a new scanner but some updating fees are crazy. Topdon phoenix is 545 to update. The a30m is a lot of tool for 200 bucks, i was very impressed with that scanner and free updates
Yes, I agree... The A30M and the D7 (especially after updates) are VERY capable scan tools. The price to functionality ratio is about as good as it gets with these two scan tools.
Right on Brian, Thanks for the update. That Q&A section was super helpful. And thanks for asking about the A30M. This company xtool really does seem commited to continually improving their software, and tech support. -Chuck
@@SlipFitGarage hello. I have an 03 chevy tahoe. I changed the Bcm/body control module. And I need to link or program the SRS system. Would this tool be capable? Thanks.
Thank you so much for the valuable information how to reset the factory settings on my scanner, because I missed when I first activate it to enter my email address and I was so concerned all this time that I wasn't going to update it at the end of the 3 years free updates, God blessings dear friend. Keep on the great videos.
I specifically need to graph oxygen sensors to help diagnose a P0320 code. The wide-band signal is essentially a straight line, even with the updated 5 volt scale. I have escalated this and we should see this addressed. You can record the data stream and get adequate resolution and a centering scale in Data View, but not in live data.
Well, like I mentioned in the video.... apparently the only upgrade currently planned for the D8 is some ADAS functions. It did get optimized live data at the same time the D7 was updated. I will certainly make a video if/when I hear about any major updates for the D8. Thanks for the comment.
Thanks Brian, never seen in one video so mucho info. In particular first minutes, D7 VS. D8 differences. Last minutes how to upgrade software versión. Thank you so much.
great video also i bought this to program a new remote for my acura mdx I know it will program the remote key fob but what about the key itself i know the key has a chip in it like an immobalizer does the d7 have the ability to program the key itself thanks
Good point.... and a point that most people forget about. This scan tool has the ability to tell the vehicle about a new key that you want to use. However, it does NOT have the ability to put a program into the key itself. That usually takes a programming dock of some sort. I am not a key programming expert by any means so I am not the best to be answering specific questions about key programming. I only know the basics..... and now you know everything that I know about programming the key itself. Thanks for the compliments about my video, and thanks for the question. I am sorry that I didn't have better information for you.
Very nice, it's great to get info from such an excellent communicator. Not always the case on Tube. I'm trying to decipher the difference, if any, between a cylinder contribution test and a power balance test. One or two sources say they are the same. I've seen the graph real time tests here on tube, but I haven't seen one on this device. I guess the Autell does them, but the latest info I have is it gives it in a single number for each cylinder, as opposed to a real time graph.
Thank you for the compliment! Cylinder contribution and power balance test are basically the same thing. Different companies call things by different names. In this particular case, I'm not 100% sure if it was the automotive manufacturers, or the scan tool manufacturers who named this test with two different names but keep in mind, it's not the scan tool running these "tests", it's the PCM (computer) in the vehicle that is actually doing the "work", the scan tool is simply commanding the function, then displaying the data that the computer in the car is sending out.... Depending on the year/make/model, it might be in graph form, or it might be in number form. You can only run a cylinder balance test or Cylinder contribution test if that functionality is already programmed into the car's PCM. If not, the scan tool cannot command something that doesn't exist in the first place. This is true with most features and functions on scan tools. Just because the scan tool is CAPABLE of displaying certain info, or running a certain "test", doesn't mean it can do it on every make/model of vehicle ever made. The D7 can now do a "power balance test" on my GM truck..... but it might be called a "cylinder contribution test" on a Ford truck with a Powerstroke diesel engine. Or, I might plug into a vehicle that is not capable of running any sort of cylinder/power test at all..... It all depends on the vehicle make/model and what the manufacturer of that vehicle has programmed into the PCM, and what they have named certain items within their software. I hope this makes sense. Thanks for the question.
@@SlipFitGarage I was using the ancel V6 the other day and I had a power balance test but all it does is kill the injectors and pump so you can use a compression tested as well as a contribution test that would allow you to kill individual injectors while the engine ran these scan tools are getting very im impressive ! By the way I ran those test on a 2016 Chevy equinox…
Will this scanner properly diagnose Chevrolet Tahoe 2006 four-wheel-drive control system? Will it exercise the servo motor on the transfer case and front axle lock in motor? Speed sensors?
2 questions: 1. Does the D7, out of the box, have the ability the communicate with ALL vehicles from every country that are in the menus ? 2. When you have to pay for your new annual subscription, does it refresh ALL the vehicles, or is it per vehicle...? Thanks!
1) I cannot verify with 100% certainty if the tool will work with every vehicle from every country listed in the menus. I live in the USA and I have successfully used XTOOL scan tools on vehicles sold in this country. Some people have claimed there were problems with certain makes/models but I have not experienced any trouble, personally. 2) When you pay for a new subscription, you get updates for every make/model of vehicle listed in the tool, along with software/firmware for the tool itself. And it's not just updates once a year when new models come out. There are updates coming out almost every day. Every time the software engineers streamline something, fix a glitch, add new functions, etc, etc. they put out another update. They are constantly updating the tool. If you goa month or two without updating, you'll probably see 70-100 updates waiting to be installed. Thanks for the questions.
with the new update, can you do ecu customizations? eg turn off chimes for seat belt ect? or is that limited to ip8/d8? also have you worked with any of the launch x431s?
That's limited to the particular vehicle that you're plugged into. If the auto manufacturer didn't put those options in the vehicles computer to begin with, then there isn't a scan tool on earth that can toggle those functions on/off. You might plug this tool into a vehicle and see a bunch of options to turn on/off, then immediately plug it into a different vehicle and not see any options. Example: I have a 2022 KIA and I HATE the daytime running lights.... and none of my scan tools give me the option to turn those off. And no, I have not had the chance to use any of the Launch x431 variants. Sorry. Thanks for the question.
Does the ability to program the ECU allow you to swap out ECUs and your vehicle and recode keys to the new ECU? What else would ECU coding be good for? I heard you can reprogram government requirements for your region, but that is of no interest to me. I just want to have an idea what capability I’m missing by going with the D7 instead of the D8. Specifically, I have an all-keys-lost on a USA 2000 Lexus RX300 and I want to code a new key from scratch after cutting it according to the door lock key code. This may or may not require and ECU swap. I hope not. The D7 can’t do this to my knowledge. Can the D8?
I agree.... and it also depends on what brand of vehicle you're working on. Some scan tools perform better on certain brands of vehicles than others. And this is true with ALL scan tools. Even the most expensive, brand name, scan tools that are sold by tool truck dealers.
Hi Brian, found your video very useful, thanks. I have been struggling to find fuel trim on my D7 and I wonder if this update will help. You show V4.27.4 as the latest, mine is showing V4.28.2_6.63 is this newer? Thanks
My scan tool is still showing 4.27.4 and I just let all the updates install that have came out since I last updated the tool. (when I originally recorded this video) I am not sure how XTOOL numbers their updates. I was only told that 4.27.4 is the one that contained the newest functionality. As for your scan tool.... Do you see "Special Functions" AND "Actuation Tests" in the diagnosis menu structure? Are you looking for "fuel trim" or "fuel trim reset"? "Fuel trim" numbers will be found in the Powertrain>Engine> Engine Live Data menu and it will usually be labeled "Long tern fuel trim" or "Short term fuel trim" . The "fuel trim reset" function would be found under "special function" in the Diagnosis menu structure. Of course all this depends on what vehicle year/make/model you are plugged into..... but generally what I have posted above applies to most vehicles. What type of vehicle are you working on?
@@SlipFitGarage thanks for coming back, yes, I can see special functions and actuation tests. I am looking for long and short term fuel trims to see what is happening as my car has a rough idle problem. I have seen other users of the D7 search while using live data and both short and long term trims come up but when I search this is not shown. My car is a 2009 Mini Cooper S. It does show a couple of possible terms such as ‘cylinder bank 1 additive adjustment of mixed gases’ which I don’t know what this term means and the reading given for this don’t match what I had been seeing with the Topdon AL500 I had borrowed. I may try the reset you suggested.
@@ianhoulden2930 No, I am not suggestion the vehicle needs a fuel trim rest, I was just asking if you could see the reset option. Keep in mind, that vehicle may not even be programmed to have a fuel trim reset and therefore that option would not appear on the screen. Think of the scan tool as just a window into your car's computer.... You will only be able to see the features and functions that are programmed into the vehicle's computer from the factory. The scan tool simply displays those option and allows you to command functions provided by the vehicles manufacturer. The scan tool itself doesn't really do anything.... It's just acts as an interface between the vehicle's computer and a human. I know very little about German vehicles (Mini is owned by German manufacturer, BMW) but I do know that some vehicles use o2 sensors, and some vehicles now use wideband o2 Air/Fuel ratio sensors. German vehicles may display their "fuel trim" as something completely different. Just remember all scan tool menus, features, functions, and live data pids can, and usually will change depending which vehicle your plugged into. What I see when plugged into my 2006 GMC truck WILL NOT be anywhere close to what I see if I plugged into your Mini Cooper. Everything on the screen of the scan tool will appear totally different. What I show in my videos (2006 GMC truck) you should NOT expect to see unless you're plugged into another GM vehicle from the same era. I hope this help. Thanks for the question.
So is the d8s ecu coding atleast actrually ecu coding. Like can i hop on and quadriple my turbos boost pressure walk away and wirelessly give it full throttle until it blows up? Obviously id never dare do that but if it doesnt have that kinda control why would u even buy the d8 anymore....
Been looking for a entry level bi directional tool and there are plenty of reviews on yt that this tool does not work and 9 out of 10 times features are just present but not accessible. Feel free to leave feedback in reply section.
I guarantee this tools works 98% of the time. There are THOUSANDS of happy D7 customers in this world who did NOT leave a negative review. The negative reviews you're reading online are usually a result of people having no idea how scan tools work.... then they leave a negative review as if it's the scan tool's fault. As for features not working.... yep, that's true, and just another example of people not knowing how scan tools work. I can't force a DPF regen on a gasoline vehicle. I can't recenter a steering angle sensor on a vehicle that doesn't have a steering angle sensor to begin with. I cant use the EPB function on a vehicle that does not have electronic parking brakes. The BMS feature does not work on vehicles that don't use a BMS in the first place, etc, etc.... Do you see where I am going with this? Just because the SCAN TOOL is capable of all those features, that does NOT mean the VEHICLE you're currently plugged into can support all those features. With all that said, NO scan tool is perfect. Even the $5K Snap on scan tools have problems every no and again on certain makes/models. The D7 series is one of the best values in the entry level scan tool world. This tool will do 98% of everything a DIYer could possibly ever need. The newest model is the D7S. Be sure to check it out. I will have a video about this new model coming out either this weekend, or the next. Thanks for the comment.
Thanks very much for the update but my D7 xtool is is not working for Benz since I updated rather it is showing License exception. Please what do I need to do?
If your subscription is out of date, then it probably needs to be renewed. How old is your scan tool? You should send Xtool and email and see what they say.
With the major update talked about in this video, ALL versions of the XTOOL D7 scan tool now have the ability to do a throttle re-learn. Thanks for the question.
Yes, very soon. In fact, there is a package with a D7S inside that is currently on it's way to my location. I should have it in my hands within the next few days..... Then probably a week or two for the video to get recorded, edited, uploaded, and eventually goes live on youtube. Thanks!
Hi being that my phone replaced all computers/ laptops can the D7 upgrades be done via a phone since there is no wireless capability? My understsnding is the Topdon artdiag 900 lite can ne upgraded since it has wireless/ bluetooth capabilities? Is my assumption correct? Thank you! You do a great job on your channel. New Subscriber.
The D7 DOES have WiFi capabilities. So does the newer D7S and the D7W. They all have wifi capabilities. If your cell phone has "hot spot" capability where it can share it's wireless connection via WIFI with other wireless devices, then yes... you can update the D7 over your cell phone's network. The D7 is Android based.... You would simply add the D7 to any WiFi network like you would with any other Android device, or any WiFi laptop, or any WiFi iPad, or WiFi desktop computer, etc. etc. Thanks for the question.
Hello. I just came across your channel today. I'm in the market for a scan tool. What would you recommend the D7 with update, or the topdon lite 2 from a more recent video? I've also considered the autel ms906 and the innova 7111. I've heard some bad things about the innova so idk about that one. And the autel seems very pricy. I think I'm leaning toward the D7 or the topdon lite 2. Which would you prefer as a first bidirectional scan tool for a mechanic? Thank you so much!
Really seems like the top don lite 2 Is a better tool but the D7 is 2 or 300 dollars cheaper. For someone who has used both I just wonder what your opinion is on one vs the other. Thanks again.
They both have their pros and cons.... if you're not planning to work on 2019 (I think) or newer Chryslers then the D7 would probably serve you just fine. I don't believe the D7s have AutoAuth capabilities just yet. (Which is required for some functions on newer Chryslers).
Not that I know of. If you want full TPMS capabilities, you're going to always pay extra for that. As for mileage correction.... It's been almost 30 years since I've personally replaced a gauge cluster... and using mileage correction for anything else in illegal here in the USA so I don't even really consider that feature when I'm looking at scan tools. I'm sure it would genuinely come in handy for some techs, but most people get other ideas when they hear a scan tool can change the mileage shown on an odometer. I don't know much about mileage correction because I've never needed it.
All of those features depend on the make and model that you're plugged into. Have you tried more than one vehicle? Have you tried looking at the function list on the XTOOL website? It will give you an idea of what features work with what scan tool on which vehicles by year/make/model. Try it here: www.xtooltech.com/english/FunctionQuery.html
I have not had the please of using the new D7BT but I know it's just as good as the regular corded D7, it just now has a Bluetooth wireless connection to the vehicle. Both the D7 and the D7BT are great scan tools. If you want something to compare it to, check out my recent OTOFIX D1 Lite scan tool video. Thanks for the question.
The XTOOL D7 is an OBD2 scan tool. It is designed to work on any vehicle sold in the USA from 1996 until today in 2023. (The OBD2 standard is mandated by US Federal law) If your 2005 Nissan was manufactured for sale in the USA, then yes, it SHOULD work. I say "should" because EVERY scan tool has pros and cons. Every scan tool can struggle on certain make & models.... even the 5K+ Snap-on scan tools can will struggle with certain vehicles. So, with all that said, Yes.... it SHOULD work fin on your vehicle. I do not have a 2005 Nissan to plug my D7 into to verify for you, but you should be fine. Jump in, the water is fine! Thanks for the question.
@ilarizan If the vehicle you are working on has the ability to run an injector balance test, then the D7 should be able to command that test. The vehicle has to already have that ability from the factory programmed into the vehicle's computer, if not then the scan tool will not be able to command it.
I doubt there is much difference between those two scan tool when it comes to that specific ability. On a side note: What do you mean by "range"? In my mind that feature either works, or it doesn't. Are you asking which scan tool will let you roll back the odometer the farthest? (which scan tool will allow the largest mileage adjustment?)
Hey I like your video. I borrowed a friends D8 and my only complaint is that you cannot see live data lists during active tests or special functions. I am very impressed by this tool but that is my only major complaint. It is a dealbreaker in my opinion. I would like to see if you can access data streams while performing an activation test on the evap purge seal for a 2004 Chevrolet suburban.
No.... ECU coding, programming, and configuration are completely different from tuning. This scan tool does NOT allow custom tuning..... In fact, I am not aware of ANY scan tool that has the ability to perform custom tuning. That usually requires a computer (laptop usually) that is running custom tuning software such as HP Tuners, for example.
Can this scan tool diagnosis and re-program new tire pressure sensors? Like if I have a bad one and need to find which one is bad, replace it and re-program it.
Great information, thanks much. Was wondering if this unit is capable of adjusting or programming a new engine idle speed? Mine needs to get bumped up around 100rpm. Hoping this scanner is the one to achieve that.
That greatly depends on the vehicle. Usually the target engine idle RPM is set by the computer and cannot be changed by ANY scan tool...... UNLESS that option has already been pre-programmed into the vehicle's computer from the factory..... If the factory has not allowed engine idle speed to be changed, then it will usually take more than just a scan tool to adjust idle RPM. That usually requires full tuning software, or an update from the vehicle manufacturer. Now, with all that said, I have no idea what vehicle you have so I can't be 100% positive that your idle is not adjustable, but typically that is not something that can be permanently adjusted by a scan tool. HOWEVER, a scan tool can usually (again, depending on vehicle) adjust engine idle rpm TEMPORARILY for diagnostic and repair reasons, but as soon as the tool is unplugged from the DLC port, then computer will go back to default engine idle RPM. Thanks for the question
Maybe.... if the computer (ecm) in your Toyota is monitoring the "headlight system" and it is able to detect a problem, this scan tool should be able to display those trouble codes, if any.
@@SlipFitGarage lower cost diagnostic tools do not read the malfunction codes. O’rally Auto tool didn’t detect any codes. This malfunction code is a Toyota specific code recorded in the ECM somewhere. It could be a simple light bulb out issue. Note, I haven’t found a bad bulb. My vehicle doesn’t have a headlight level system.
@@shanec4441Okay.... I have no way of knowing if this will do what you're looking for. I don't even know your year/make/model. You mentioned "headlight system" in your initial question so that's where I got that from. Your best bet is to ask the manufacturer if their product will help in your situation. Sorry I didn't have better info for you.
Yes, the D7 can bleed ABS brake modules on vehicles that are programmed with that function. As for the linear valve offset calibration on Toyota Prius's..... I can't honestly say either way. I don't usually work on Toyota Prius's. However, the update featured in this video basically gave the D7 the same functionality as the D8 so if I was a betting man, I'd say yes it does have that ability. The only way to know that information for sure is to ask XTOOL directly. Thanks for the question.
Great video, I heard that the D7 is good scanner but has a small battery that does not last long.... have they resolved that issue or are they planning to, in the future?
The D7 in this video is a corded scan tool. Meaning it has a cord that runs from the scan tool to the vehicle's OBD2 port (otherwise known as the DLC, or "data link link connector") so any time the scan tool is plugged into the vehicle's DLC it is receiving a charge. In theory, the scan tool battery should never go dead as long as it's plugged into a vehicle. Since this video was made, they now offer the D7 in a Bluetooth version.... so in that case, the scan tool is 100% dependent on it's internal battery. I have NOT had the pleasure to test and review the bluetooth D7 so I do not know if they made the battery bigger in that version. And lastly, I have recently heard they are now developing another newer version of the D7 that has not been released yet..... so, no telling what that battery will be in the newest version. We'll find out when it's released, I guess. Thanks for the question.
@@Anthony-qj7qe You're welcome! On a side note.... I hear the new D7 that is still in development will have a "WiFi" connection between the scan tool and the vehicle instead of a "bluetooth" connection. That doesn't really sound like a big deal at first but the speed of WiFi is MUCH faster than bluetooth.... WiFi is AT LEAST 20 times faster than bluetooth, and probably much faster than that with modern hardware/firmware. As of right now, the ONLY scan tool that I know of that uses a WiFi connection is the $5000 Autel MS Ultra. I'm sure there are other really high end scan tool that use WiFi like probably Snap-on but to see a D7 use WiFi will be a REALY big deal in the consumer grade scan tool market. My guess is..... The new D7 will probably be the first consumer grade scan tool to use a WiFi connection...... and hopefully it will have a larger battery, too. But keep in mind, we don't want XTOOL to improve the D7 TO MUCH, or the price will go up.... which will quickly erase the affordability of the D7, which is the main reason why it was such a great seller to begin with. It's a double edge sword, I guess. lol.
On vehicles that have that ability, yes I believe it does. The D7 received a major update after this video was made. The D7 now has pretty much the resets, relearns, special functions, and actuation tests as the D8.
This maybe a silly question but here goes. Can I guy that knows what he is doing, use the xtool d7 to do the same programming for performance enhancement that he would get from a "performance chip"? Or would he need the D8? (and yes I understand they aren't specifically chips now days)
No, the D8 cannot do performance enhancements, either. These are scan tools deigned to aid technicians and car owners with repairs and some small customizations. (if those small customizations are already programmed into the vehicles computer to begin with, from the factory) Scan tools are NOT performance tuners. If you're looking to change your engine tuning parameters (fuel/air/boost/ignition timing/shift points/etc) then you need a "tuner" of some sort that contains "tuning software" and has the ability to flash new custom "tunes" into he factory computer. I don't know if a single scan tool, regardless of brand, that can re-tune your engine parameters.
If you don't keep the updates current this tool will not work, it says you must update the scanner before using that means when the free updates run out they can disable it if you don't pay for a new update
I don't believe the D7 includes any ADAS features. As for customization.... every vehicle is different. But just keep in mind, EVERY customization has to be already programmed into the vehicles computer to begin. There is NOT a scan tool on earth that can force a vehicle to do something that the automotive manufacturer hasn't already programmed into the vehicles computer. Example: I have a 2022 KIA and I HATE the daytime running lights. NONE of my scan tools can shut those off.... and the dealer tells me they cant even shut them off with their factory software. The manufacturer did not program that option into my vehicle so there is NO WAY to turn those off. Just keep this in mind....
Pls , my d7 " Toyota software" is having an issues I can't access the software when I click on it. It would bounce back Which is weird ! but others are working perfectly any help??
I don't even own a Toyota to plug my scan tool into in order to verify your complaints. You might consider sending XTOOL's customer service a quick email and ask them if they can help you. Does the tool have all it's current software updates?
The vehicle you're plugged into greatly dictates what appears on the screen of the scan tool. If the wording is different when you're plugged into your vehicles VS what you see in my video when I'm plugged into a 2006 GMC 1500 pickup truck, that is 100% normal and very common. As for the dumb reminders like "turn on ignition"....... Yep, they're dumb comments but some people need to be told from start to finish how to run specific things. Could you imagine if the scan tool company just assumed the average user already had the ignition turned on? They would probably get thousands of emails and phone calls from users claiming their scan tool doesn't work. Common sense is not very common these days, sadly. Thanks for the comment.
@@SlipFitGarage Thanks. Think I gotta go to the dealer. Dammit. Figured out the ignition, Now getting "Out of Range". I think the PPM is locked. All this because I unplugged the seat wring harness to re-upholster seats.
Attention, in Mercedes W246, 176, 212, 204, 205 the equipment does not do EZS!!! Changing the counter settings works for a few seconds and then reads the old value from the EZS. Digiprog 3 does it better.
I don't work on Mercedes so I have no idea what any of your posts means...... but I am pretty sure a simple email to XTOOL would be all it takes to get the problem fixed. Probably within just a few days.
Do you think this scanner will be good to see live data on a 1996 obd2 tacoma? I have a buddy who works for Toyota and his techstream wouldn't connect to my car it'd just load eternally.
Yes, I do think so. This is an OBD2 scan tool which is designed to work with anything sold in the US 1996 or newer. I don't have a 1996 Tacoma to plug into and verify but it should work just fine.
The scan tool has the ability to display trans temperature in real time..... as long as the vehicle that you're plugged into also has that same ability. Thanks for the question.
Yes, it should be able to do that..... Where it's located will be determined by the specific vehicle that you're plugged into. So, in other words, it's located wherever the software engineers from the vehicle manufacturer put that option when they wrote the software for that particular make/model. It can be anywhere in the menu structure and it can/will change from vehicle to vehicle. Think of a scan tool as a simple window into your vehicles computer. It can only show what the vehicle manufacturer wants you to see, and when where to see it. It's the computer in the vehicle that is actually running the synchronizer procedure, the scan tool just allows a human to make that selection. Thanks for the question.
Those "special function" shortcuts are basically marketing wank. You're better off going into the diagnosis menu, and then going into a specific module and looking at actuation tests, and special functions to see just exactly what the scan tool is capable of doing, on the specific vehicle that you're plugged into. (because it absolutely changes from vehicle to vehicle) Those "special functions" shortcuts never seem to work for me. For an example: I tried to change the tire size on a 2014 Dodge pick-up truck. I tried using the "tire size" shortcut and it did not give me the option for Dodge trucks. However, when I went into the diagnosis menu, then into he ABS module, then clicked "special functions" it gave me the option to select a new tire size.
@@SlipFitGarage Thanks! I'll try that. I haven't gotten a response from support! Just curious, what version software are you up to by now? My machine is showing: V4.33.3_7.62 vci82 32773
It should.... Any vehicle sold new inside the united states from 1996 or newer is required to be OBD2 compliant...... and the XTOOL D7 is an OBD2 scan tool.
Yes, this is a n "OBD2" scan tool which is designed to work on any vehicles sold in North American from 1996 and newer. And yes, this tool does included functions that allow electric parking brake service. Thanks for the question.
You are correct, it is very confusing. I could do a video on programming a key for a specific vehicle, but every make and model has a different key programming procedure... So my one video, would only cover how to program a key for one type of vehicle. Not to mention.... I don't specialize in programing keys so that really isn't my strong point. I MIGHT do a video on programming a key for a '22 KIA but it's not going to happen for a while, if at all. Thanks for the question.
Unfortunately, I do not have a 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander so there is no way that I can create a step by step video for you. Nor have I ever worked on that particular make/model. Sorry I wasn't able to help.
Just keep in mind, a lot of the "vehicle customization" stuff is dependent on the vehicle that you're plugged into at any given time. Just because you have full control of a certain function with one make/model does does NOT mean you will have that full control on EVERY make/model. If a vehicle manufacturer programmed an on/off option for the seat belt warning alarm on a given certain vehicle, then the scan tool will show that option on that vehicle. On the other hand, if the manufacturer did NOT program an on/off option for the seat belt alarm, then the scan tool will NOT show that option on that vehicle. Again, it's 100% dependent on the vehicle's computer and how it's programed from the manufacturer.
Perry.... sorry, I mentioned in the video that a viewer was asking about crank relearn and I thought his name was Peter.... I was talking about you, but I got your name wrong. Sorry about that. Thank you for your nice comments under this, and other videos of mine. 🙂
I don't have a diesel truck to plug into an verify.... But yes, this tool should be able to command DPF regens.... as long as the truck is capable of receiving a forced regen command.
As long as the version you have is numerically the same or higher than what is shown in this video, then you have the updated version. I have no idea where they list the newest version on the internet.... maybe somewhere on XTOOL's website. I knew the version number specifically for this video because the person who I deal with at XTOOL sent it to me via email.
Anyone know why when I connect my D7{ it does have all the updates installed on it ] to my 2004 Lexus Ls430. It doesn't see my VIN # and tells me to enter it manually.
That can happen with ANY scan tool, on ANY make model. Yes, it sucks, but it can (and usually does) happen frequently. I have no explanation for it.... it just happens. I had a BRAND NEW Autel scan tool that would not auto detect my truck the other day and I've used dozens of scan tools on that same truck in the past..... No idea why.
I did everything you said and I still dont have the new software I talkto someone at xtool and he told me that I have the new software but version is not the same as you have on this youtube page can you help me
The exact version shown in this video was the first software update that contained the new features and functions. The version shown in this video is from last summer..... and it has probably changed (updated) 100 times since this video was recorded. As long as you have AT LEAST the software version in this video, then you have the upgrade. Is your software version numerically higher than the one in this video?
$100 bucks per year, (If I'm not mistaken) after the 3 years of free subscription runs out. You don't have to pay for the subscription to keep using the scan tool. The device remains fully functional at it's current software level.... you just wont have the most current software. Besides, not many people buy updates..... Most people buy new scan tools. After three years it will probably be time for a new device. Example, how long does a new modern smartphone last? If I can get three years out of my smartphone, I consider myself VERY lucky... Scan tools aren't much different. It's basically an Android tablet. In three years, you'll probably take your "update money" and apply it to the purchase price of the newest hotness in scan tools at that time. A lot CAN change in three years.... Thanks for the question.
It certainly can.... on vehicles that allow scan tools to re-write the VIN number. That feature (well, all features) are 100% dependent on the vehicle that you're plugged into. Thanks for the question.
What "custom settings" are you referring to? I've never seen or heard the specific term used when talking about the D7. Is your D7 fully up to date with the most current software?
I agree..... but they have to save some functions for their higher end scan tools or nobody would buy those. They can't put EVERYTHING in their cheapest scanner...... At least not in 2022. Give it five or more years and there will be SO MANY Chinese scan tool manufacturers competing to have the "best" (i.e. cheapest, with most functions) scan tool on the market that eventually ALL scan tools will have ALL functions.
Well, you didn't tell me what you want to program.... The sensor itself, or the computer in the vehicle? What make/model are you asking about? Either way, the answer to your question is "PROBABLY no". Most TPMS programming requires a scan tool that is advertised as having TPMS capabilities..... which is NOT the tool in this video. Thanks for the question.
@@SlipFitGarage Hi i have a KIA Sportage 2017 year. Old wheel is damaged along with the sensor. so i got a hold of a new wheel with new sensor. But the sensor needs programming to the vehicle computer?
It should, depending on what vehicle you're plugged into. I haven't changed a cluster since I got my first XTOOL device so I've never needed to even look for the mileage "correction" feature, let alone try it. I sure get this question A LOT on my XTOOL videos. It may even be the number one question. There must be a lot of clusters getting replaced. Lolol. I usually send them out for repair so the vehicle retains it's original cluster.

@Infinity Unfortunately, like I said, I don't have a vehicle like yours, so I have no way to verify if that function will work on your specific vehicle. Sorry.
You would need to send that question directly to XTOOL. I cannot answer the question with any certainty because I don't have a Nissan qashqai to plug in and test with. In fact, I've never heard of a Nissan qashqai. Is that a model sold in the US?

Thank you.... and you're welcome! 🙂
Wow! Thanks for making. I didn't even know about this update. Mine just updated a few seconds ago - no problems it updated fine.
No problem. Thanks for the comment, Handy Dad!
@@SlipFitGarage awesome, I will look for those extension cables too. Thanks a lot!
In my experience the Bluetooth style can have a lot of connectivity issues. I prefer a wired connection
thx for this info. TU... that's good news i just pulled the trigger on this.
Thanks for the info. I just bought an X7 & still learning how it works
545 isn't bad when you compare that to tool truck updates that are $1300 and up
Right on Brian,
Thanks for the update.
That Q&A section was super helpful.
And thanks for asking about the A30M.

Thanks, Chuck. If they make the A30M have this same ability as the new D7, that will really impress me.

Glad you like your D9. Thanks for the comment!
@@SlipFitGarage would you be getting the D9? Even though I own the tool, I am sure I don't know what the tool can do 100%
Would I be getting the D9??? Yes, I already made a video about the D9. I own the tool used in that video. It's a great tool!
I hope you get the graphing issue figured out. Thanks for the comment.
Thank you again Brian. Good info.
Nice explanation of those changes - I'm looking forward to info about their D8 upgrades.
Well, like I mentioned in the video.... apparently the only upgrade currently planned for the D8 is some ADAS functions. It did get optimized live data at the same time the D7 was updated. I will certainly make a video if/when I hear about any major updates for the D8. Thanks for the comment.
Fuel composition reset for my 2013 Suburban is what sold me as well as the price/functionality. I’ll order one

Thank you, Sir!
great video also i bought this to program a new remote for my acura mdx I know it will program the remote key fob but what about the key itself i know the key has a chip in it like an immobalizer does the d7 have the ability to program the key itself thanks
@@SlipFitGarage I was using the ancel

2 questions:
Can the D8?
I bought the launch and the d7 and I need both of them because they both can do things the others can't.
I agree.... and it also depends on what brand of vehicle you're working on.

This is a scan tool..... Not a "tuner".
Hello it’s there any scan tool like this one and in the same price category that do tpms program and millage correction that you recommend?
Not that I know of. If you want full TPMS capabilities, you're going to always pay extra for that. As for mileage correction.... It's been almost 30 years since I've personally replaced a gauge cluster... and using mileage correction for anything else in illegal here in the USA so I don't even really consider that feature when I'm looking at scan tools. I'm sure it would genuinely come in handy for some techs, but most people get other ideas when they hear a scan tool can change the mileage shown on an odometer. I don't know much about mileage correction because I've never needed it.
I can't find any ecu coding on mine? That was the main reason I brought the tool
What is your opinion on the new 2023 D7BT version over the corded D7?
I have not had the please of using the new D7BT but I know it's just as good as the regular corded D7, it just now has a Bluetooth wireless connection to the vehicle. Both the D7 and the D7BT are great scan tools. If you want something to compare it to, check out my recent OTOFIX D1 Lite scan tool video. Thanks for the question.
@@SlipFitGarage Will do, thanks!
Will Xtool D7 work on 2005 Nissan Altima 4 clearing codes and throttle body relearn procedures😊
Does the d7 come with injector balance?
@ilarizan
If the vehicle you are working on has the ability to run an injector balance test, then the D7 should be able to command that test. The vehicle has to already have that ability from the factory programmed into the vehicle's computer, if not then the scan tool will not be able to command it.
@@SlipFitGarage thanks
Can the D7 do TPMS relearn/reset or only the D8 has that function
Hello is there any chance you would know which has better range for odometer correction between the x100 and D7 xtool? Cheers
I will mention this to XTOOL the next time I am dealing with them. Thanks for the comment.
Does ECU coding and ECU configuration mean you can tune the car?
@@SlipFitGarage thank you for your knowledge
Those the x tool d7 program ecu for a Toyota Camry 2006
My D7 just updated today.. where can I find a list of the changes?
Can this scan tool diagnosis and re-program new tire pressure sensors? Like if I have a bad one and need to find which one is bad, replace it and re-program it.
hi thanks for asking this i also need this info
Will this diagnostic tool read headlight system malfunctions in a Toyota
Maybe.... if the computer (ecm) in your Toyota is monitoring the "headlight system" and it is able to detect a problem, this scan tool should be able to display those trouble codes, if any.
Does d7 do abs bleed and linear valve offset calibration on Toyota Prius ?
@@SlipFitGarage Thanks for the comprehensive answer. 👍
It's a double edge sword, I guess. lol.
Can this programme my rdf module in 2011 bmw once i replace it ?
I honestly cannot answer that question. I never work on BMW vehicles so I have no way of knowing your answer. Sorry.
does it now do a fuel injector balance test
On vehicles that have that ability, yes I believe it does. The D7 received a major update after this video was made. The D7 now has pretty much the resets, relearns, special functions, and actuation tests as the D8.
This maybe a silly question but here goes. Can I guy that knows what he is doing, use the xtool d7 to do the same programming for performance enhancement that he would get from a "performance chip"? Or would he need the D8? (and yes I understand they aren't specifically chips now days)
No, this tool does not change any tuning parameters. Again, this tool does not do ANY performance tuning enhancements. None. Thanks for the question.
@@SlipFitGarage Does the xtool d8?
@@SlipFitGarage Thank you for explaining that. I appreciate it.
Can you program keys on a Chevy 2009 with this?
If you don't keep the updates current this tool will not work, it says you must update the scanner before using that means when the free updates run out they can disable it if you don't pay for a new update
That is 100% wrong. Why would you post false information about something you know nothing about?
Hi, Does D7 support ADAS calibration? and also Customizations of certain functions like turning of seatbelt warnings?
Christian will the D7 new upgrade have the option to do camshaft relearning on Chrysler
Probably, depending on the year of vehicle. I don't have any Chryslers to plug into and look for that option.
Awesome video.
I just bought one. I have to activate transmission solenoids and I did not think $500 could get that done.
Thanks.
You're welcome. Thank you for the comment!
The option I get is "Passenger Presence Sensor Learn". 2015 Buick. When I go into it tool directs to "Turn on Ignition". Geez. the ignition is on.

I just came across this video. Is anyone aware of any recent discount codes for the XTOOL D7 available for Amazon?
Can it read and program tpms sensors ?
Thank you. Does it measure transmission temperature in real time?
The scan tool has the ability to display trans temperature in real time..... as long as the vehicle that you're plugged into also has that same ability.
Thanks for the question.
this can code abs modules right? does anyone know how to do it? using this scanner

Maybe try resetting the tool and then try re-updating. Otherwise I have no other suggestion for you. I whish I did but I do not work XTOOL. Sorry.
Does the d7 relearn the throttle body or does the d8 only do that, and would the d8 be the only one to code the different ecu’s
lol i also need info on if this will work on my kia after changing throttle position sensor that was bad
@brianok100 Quick question, I need to set the sync on a cam synchronizer, does this scanner support this and where would it be located in the system?
I tried to access the SRS under special functions for a Jeep. The only vehicles listed under SRS are Ford and Lincoln. Have you used yours for SRS?

Could you do something on the key programming? It's a very confusing section in my D7! Probably the only confusing section!
I need a step by step electronic park brake control on 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander rear brake
Unfortunately, I do not have a 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander so there is no way that I can create a step by step video for you. Nor have I ever worked on that particular make/model. Sorry I wasn't able to help.
Watched the video. Saw they added all the seat belt alarm stuff. Thanks for the update on the tool! D7 basically a D8 now... Best value scan tool...
@@SlipFitGarage thanks! It's awesome that they added the functions like the D8

Is D7 capable to work and diagnose old 1996 vehicles. With obd1 port?
It only comes with an OBD2 connector.
All vehicles sold in the US fromm 1996 model year ND newer are ob2, obd1 is 1995 and older
Where do we look for what is the latest version/update?

How much is a subscription every year
$100 bucks per year, (If I'm not mistaken) after the 3 years of free subscription runs out.
You put everything in the right perspective great answer thank you very much.

Does this scanner rewrite vin?
It certainly can.... on vehicles that allow scan tools to re-write the VIN number. That feature (well, all features) are 100% dependent on the vehicle that you're plugged into. Thanks for the question.
All the custom settings are still missing off the D7
What "custom settings" are you referring to? I've never seen or heard the specific term used when talking about the D7. Is your D7 fully up to date with the most current software?
I wish it could use the Ks-1 smart key simulator.
Can this programme tpms ?
Well, you didn't tell me what you want to program.... The sensor itself, or the computer in the vehicle? What make/model are you asking about? Either way, the answer to your question is "PROBABLY no". Most TPMS programming requires a scan tool that is advertised as having TPMS capabilities..... which is NOT the tool in this video.
