It occured to me watching the week 1 breakdowns just how much work goes into the edits and the film managment. Want to say thanks not only for the top class analysis but all the hard work of the team in put the packages togather. All this plus the entertainment (and the chuckles - this weeks laugh counts been off the chain) .

I can’t wait fathom how pff graded him the worst quarterback this week. He was 58.8 comp% 276 passing yards, 2 tds and 2 ints. It’s not a great game at all but if you look around the league that’s kinda how it went this weekend. I can’t see how that’s equates to being the worst qb in the nfl the week like what?

Hurts 1st Pick - It looks like Tampa but thats really an iteration (love your use of that word!) of Saban's Cover 7 which is one of saban's early versions of match coverage designed to really "shell" the whole damn field vs trips - 4 over 3 on one side / 3 over 2 on the other. It's also split field coverage that Darnell&Patterson made famous.
Anyway - if it was a straight up tampa, then #7 is racing back immediately - this is only an assignment based on the pattern distribution (match coverage). In this case - the receiver sprinting down the center of the field.
Saban's C7 or any C7 for that matter is so often confused as just Cover 2 -- in cover 2, the middle is vulnerable as are shorter routes - not in Cover 7. 7 is the best Shell - and when a QB is seeing this - in other words - LBs or Nickels racing back - Cloud Corners getting depth - Safety on the 1 WR side playing up - Safety on 2 WR with more depth (can look like Cover 6) -- all this signals C7 and just dump it to the check.
OR --- just seeing 7 guys getting depth - dump it -- it was really an easy read - but Hurts isn't a drop back guy - I love how you get on the drop steps - in a timing Pro style or WCO that timing is critical. I wonder if fans think you are too detailed about that - but it's all in the details - especially in pro style timing offenses and with NFL speed.
Hurts is really not great as a drop back pocket passer - like many QBs today - his feet are awesome in other ways. IMPROV - which is more Spread or Air Raid style. Which is what Sirianni was originally playing with, before the team imploded on his ass.
So here - Hurts has an extra shuffle as you pointed out - timing now off - plus he just locked on - his vision was very poor - he saw a 1on1 w/ a LB and that's not what it was - it was a C7 - CHECK DOWN TIME! - easy for pocket passes ala brady , burrow, etc

37:02 curious to why they avoid the middle of the field. If Calcaterra does a stick nod to the inside, that goes for 10 yards down to the 2 or 3-yard line. I just don't understand some of these play designs. It wreaks of Sirriani play calls and designs. He has to get out of down-in and down-out decisions and oversee the team.

the first INT, I am surprised you didn't have any thoughts to share on the route that DeVonta ran. Here we go again, blaming the field! Sounds like the Superbowl against the Chiefs excuse!

    • @SharkOutOfAir
      @SharkOutOfAir Місяць тому +2

@@bonym371 A lot of people played sloppy because of the field on Friday, not just Hurts. I’m not sure how you equated bad footwork to the Super Bowl, but if you want to talk about that, I can.
Wet and slippery fields make essentially every position harder to play, as mistakes and bad positioning are more likely to occur. The positions that gets affected the most is the DL. It essentially neutralizes them from making a sack. Neither the Chiefs’ nor the Eagles’ DL played well that Super Bowl. Problem is, the Chiefs had only an okay DL with Chris Jones and the rookie from Purdue. The Eagles had perhaps the best DL in history, yet they could not do anything because of the slippery field, meaning they couldn’t get traction against the OL.
A slippery field causes players to make mistakes and neutralizes the DL entirely, so the team with the better DL gets hurt more. The Eagles defense was almost entirely dependent on generating sacks, as the secondary was not as good as the stats said. They benefited from QBs constantly making throws under pressure.
In that Super Bowl, the Chiefs exposed the shockingly average secondary, all because the field would not let the DL play. Even Hurts for the most part played above his level because the Chiefs’ DL couldn’t pressure him.
So yes, football fans in general should be mad at a poor quality field. TJ Watt and Aaron Donald wouldn’t be playmakers on that field in Arizona.

@@Zippadeedoodaa-nt8om My comment does not mention the poor play by Jalen Hurts. It only mentions his sub standard footwork, which may be driven by the slippery field.
Jalen Hurts has shown himself to be a QB that can win his team the game under pressure, but has difficulty with decision making and making the reads fast. I understand this. He made three bad throws, where only one turned into an interception. His other interception came from AJ slipping. That was a mediocre throw, but not wholly his fault. Jordan Love also did not play well given the field conditions.

As an eagles fan I’ll tell you that a slant to AJ Brown is the most uncoverable route in the league. So when I saw Jalen point at AJ in real time that’s what I was expecting, I was shocked with a smile on my face to see that it wasn’t slant and that it probably caught Jaire off guard as well. Against man-on-man coverage, passing schemes should have more man-beaters. Very few rub routes, mesh concepts, and bunch formations. It reminds me a lot of Sirianni's schemes and not Kellen Moore's. More has incorporated things he does well into this offense, but a lot of it still is too similar to last year's basic passing trees.

Hurts’ throwing fundamentals are not good… His lower body and feet need a lot of work . He never closes down to lineup his feet properly.
Plus, his throwing arm position when setting up is not coordinated with his lower body.
Throwing coach is not getting it done…If he was on a pitching mound in baseball, he would have trouble throwing strikes…

I feel like the hype overtook the reality. We expected Hurts to continue growing at the pace he did in his first two years. Which is unrealistic. He’s not going to be a pure pocket QB. He shouldn’t be making 30-35 passes stationary in the pocket. We should be running the ball often and helping Hurts with play action and boots. Make it easier for him to get into a rhythm. I feel like last year we stopped making the offense to highlight our players skill and started making Hurts change to match the offense.

    • @neetrab

He's a pocket passer, but he's just a QB who can run really well. Him changing OC stunts his growth and he's the only top QB who's had a rotation of OCs. I think he's the best QB in the league, but that's just me.

He didn't have a proper drop and I believe he threw off his back foot into double coverage after having stared way too long at where he was going with the ball. That was one of the worst interceptions I have ever seen. A quarterback with his amount of experience shouldn't be making those kinds of throws. He looks all world playing buddy ball one second and then throws balls that even a high school quarterback knows you shouldn't attempt. I loveJalen's work ethic but I believe he needs to see a sport's psychologist.

Jalen is a One Read QB...and he has questionable situational awareness in the pocket. I think the Jordan Palmer off-season program could have helped him with his deficiencies within the passing game, locking into & starring at his first read, no climbing the pocket, no scanning, he panicks when the hot read I'd covered,,,and scrambles or rolls right improvising. Nevertheless,,, The Birds need to address this ASAP- Or it's turnover city all season

  • @MIAPhilly
    @MIAPhilly Місяць тому +2

I have 3 issues with my team on offense
1: Jalen all too often tells the defense exactly where he is going with his eyes and body and also doesn't deviate unless hes under extreme pressure or his option is locked down tight
2: Jalen allllllllllllllllllll to often has a player all but doing jumping jacks they are so open and he doesn't see them. He needs to read the field better
3: Some of our offensive players don't scramble to get open after they run their route or if the defender has anticipated the route correctly. These guys need to do whatever it takes to get open so he has options
Honorable mention: We send players in motion that we are never going to throw the ball too and it's not fooling anyone. If we were to actually start using those guys it would open up the world to us.
One of the key reasons our 2017-2018 Eagles beat the brakes off everyone and beat the patriots in the super bowl was the ball was spread everywhere to anyone open and the defense never knew what was really going to happen. Nick was never playing hero ball he was just getting it to the open man. The teams we have had in the last few years could have easily done better had they been more proactive instead of reactive.

    • @TheProdigy_916

      1. False. As mentioned in this video his poor throws tonight we’re over seeing the right thing but pulling the trigger slightly too late. That can be cleaned up with more reps. You can argue they should played in the preseason and I’d agree with you.
      2. This happens occasionally but fans always act like they know the play call and the progressions the QB goes through. Plus what’s open on TV might not be open on the field (or at least look open).
      3. That’s fair. AJ especially gets a little lackadaisical with some of his routes. This area could
      Improve I agree.
Honorable Mention: this just is flat out false. The eagles literally just started in in cooperating motion this year. And the point of motion isnt always to throw to the man in motion. They serve other purposes. C’mon now that’s simple shit lol

@@TheProdigy_916 in all of these examples I'm not pointing at the brazil performance but him overall as I've seen enough to be able to make these assessments. The exact same way he is using film to break down the performance is the same way you can pick apart the last 3 seasons of his overall play as well as the team. Really on both sides of the ball if you wanted. I'm not trying to take away from this videos breakdown of the eagles performance but give my overall breakdown and disappointment with what i have seen and wish they would improve upon.
1: Look you can go back to any game you like and watch Jalen, HE will at times be dead set on a target and hold on to that option so adamantly that the defense is just ready for it. You can tell by how they leave their assignments or tighten coverage in that direction leaving Jalen to have to throw it away, try and force it with a perfect pass or cause a turn over.
2: I'm at games at times seeing this live. Now granted i don't have his view and perhaps he can't see over/around the o line but I can't help but point out that I see other QBs very often do their checks and do a quick dump off to the most open person on the field. It's crazy frustrating to see what could have been when we go 3 and out unnecessarily.
      3: We agree
HM: This isn't just referring to that any new scheme they may be running now, I can't tell you how many times I've seen them try to read the defense by moving a piece of the puzzle on the board but then not use it. Don't even get me going about how underutilized Swift was. When we did use him that kid could eat up the field but we would line him up time after time and then run qb designed runs..... WHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHY. Just give it to Swift. The defense is NOT biting and they are crushing Jalen time and time again. Do we want to keep him for 8-10-15 years or are we just gonna waste him and get him killed? This isn't year 2 where teams didn't know he could move and where he was acting as RB2/3. Teams know he can take off and are ready for it more often than not. That's just one example but there are many others where the motion or set up is wasted.
