    In this video, I attempt to propagate my Anthurium Crystallinum x Magnificum hybrid (Or is it Magnificum x Crystallinum 🤔). This propagation process of this anthurium was very impromptu and I didn't really know what I was doing but it was a success (kinda). One thing that I love about anthurium hybrids are that they can look totally different to other hybrids of the same kind! So interesting! This plant started off in soil, then I transferred it to LECA/passive hydroponics (semi hydroponics), and then I tried propagating in perlite.

    So glad the cuttings survived and pushed out new growth! OG tip is to cut the leaves in half. It reduces transpiration but keeps enough leaf surface to photosynthesize. I learned this from cloning cannabis & berry bushes, but it's applicable to all plants, even ornamentals. But it's especially important for thin plants that don't have a lot of 'meaty' structure. Yours survived because of your care, but also because they have thick stems from which pull sugars/energy to make new leaves. I am surprised the roots didn't come out... have you tried Clonex Clone Solution from Growth Technologies? We use it in the cannabis world in hydro, but works great for ornamental cuttings in semi-hydro too.

    Loooove seeing your propagation videos. I always get so happy when I see the notification. You give me more confidence to start chopping up my plants since I’m finally getting a terrarium to keep humidity up.

      Aw Stephanie thank you so much 💓 Ive been toying with the idea of making a terrarium just because of the humidity retention! I'm sure your plants will be happy in there ☺️

    When i received mine, it was at the stage at 5:22 in your video... i planted mine in a mix of leaf molds, orchid chips, cocpeat, peat moss, perlite and some compost.... a moist soil at all times and it looks amazing now! I am looking forward to propagating now! Thanks a ton to you and your video! Its provided a good guide on where to chop for a prop!!

    Maybe putting the one that is being stubborn in a cup of water with a pothos cutting and an air stone would give it the nudge it needs?

    With any plants if there are any root nobs grab some sharp scissors and trim/cut the tip of the root nob.. the root nob will sprout faster!!! Specially if you add growth hormone powder to the cut tip of root nob

    Another super aggressive chop and prop. Good job. Those were big leaves for having no roots, did you consider chopping the leaves in half to lower the stress while it rooted? All of my propagations go into a clear bin that keeps the humidity above 90%.

    • @kevin.
      @kevin.  3 роки тому +1

      Hey Joel! I actually never thought of that but maybe I'll try that in the future! Have you had luck with this? And yes I just started keeping my propagations in a clear prop box tooooo 🤩

      The practice of reducing the leaf surface area by 1/2-2/3 is common in greenhouses when there are no existing roots to support the leaves. I’ve done it a couple of times and I get a lot less leaf drop/wilting.

    • @kevin.
      @kevin.  3 роки тому

      Hey thanks! Haha I only started collecting anthuriums 6 months ago so I'm not sure I'm the person to ask 😅. I find that velvet anthuriums are tougher. I have never had issues with my Anthurium furcatum or Anthurium decipiens. I hear the Anthurium clarinervium is pretty easy but I have no experience with it.

    Quick question, when you water your plants in leca, do you just pour water to the bottom pot or you pour from the leca top so the roots get directly rinse by water (not sure if it's clear)?

    • @kevin.
      @kevin.  3 роки тому +1

      I generally pour it over the top. That includes when I change the solution and when I flush the plants 😌

    • @kevin.
      @kevin.  3 роки тому

      The ones in LECA were under a grow light for 12-14 hours a day, humidity 40-65%, temp 60-75 degrees F. Obviously the one in perlite + ziploc had higher humidity (90s)
