    Why You Should Replace It:
Polybutylene (Poly B) piping, commonly used in homes from the 1970s to the mid-1990s, is now widely recognized as a potential risk due to its propensity to deteriorate and fail. Over time, factors like chemical reactions with chlorine in the water, physical stress, and degradation from UV light exposure can cause Poly B pipes to become brittle and prone to leaks or bursts. These failures can lead to significant water damage in homes, making the replacement of Poly B piping a wise preventive measure. Opting for modern, more durable materials can greatly reduce the risk of plumbing failures and the associated costly repairs.
In Calgary, Alberta, KPN Plumbing emerges as a top choice for undertaking such a replacement project. Their reputation for quality service, combined with extensive experience in residential plumbing, makes them a reliable choice for homeowners. KPN Plumbing's familiarity with local building codes and its commitment to using high-quality materials ensures that your plumbing upgrade not only meets but exceeds industry standards. Our house is a bungalow with continuous lines going to each faucet so no tees. I understand that the PB lines can split open. We are original owners, house built in 1995 in Gr Prairie. I never heard much over the years. Tips we were told were to keep the hot temperature lower and we have never had a problem. We had contractors develop our basement in 2008 and nothing was ever said back then that we should replace the PB water lines.
Have you seen issues with houses with individual PB lines to each faucet? Is it a more difficult job replacing?

Great Job you guys! I currently have Poly B looking for a switch. I started to leak in the walls. What ballpark cost would I be looking at for an over haul? I have a little bit bigger home than this one.

Are you from Calgary? You can give me a shout and we could chat. 403-608-9557. House like this ranges around $7K to pull out all the poly b and replace it. We include the flooring protection and full clean up and keep all the drywall pieces to make it easier for patching.

Thanks. Would $10K be a safe ball park price for the average 3/2 house?

Usually with the drywall repairs it’s around $15-$20K you can get it done cheaper but that’s an average cost where we are
