    I live in Connecticut on the East Coast USA and leave my Lillies out all winter in pots, never bought them in or pulled the bulbs and they have literally doubled every year and even spread outside of the pots lol. They are beautiful.

      Tina thanks for your message. You’re so lucky to have a climate that allows you to overwinter more things outside.
      That said, some lillies are tougher than others. My Martagon lily stay in the ground no problem.
      Out of interest do you get vine weevil beetles ?
      Enjoy all those amazing flowers and scent 🌸🌼

      @@diyhomeandgardening Yes lol we have them and I'm always picking them off or waving my hands along the leaves, if it's really bad you could try neem oil and try not to have them near bushes.

      If you are on Instagram then I’m also on by the same name. It would be good to see pics of your garden.
      Have a lovely summer 🌸

    Always fancied trying to grow these. I have a friend that has nothing but good things to say about them - especially the scent! Will hopefully have an attempt at growing them soon. Trying to be more green fingered but have awful luck with some plants. (Looking at you lavender and ginseng ficus). Thanks for such an informative video.

      Hi. Many thanks for watching the video and taking the time to message.
      The skyscraper / tree lilies are so nice and put on a great display of flowers throughout the summer.
      There are a lot of varieties to chose from but not that many have fragrance so double check before buying.
      This is now my second year of growing the lilies and they have grown so much taller, and produced many more flowers than in their first year.
      Hope your green fingerness develops for you 😄🌸🌺

    Gardening in pyjamas is the best 😃 wowww 20-25 flowers off a single plant. Wow the shoots came up nicely! I need to move my lily pots undercover to let them dry out more i think, as now im worried the bulbs might have rotted 😰😰Excellent tutorial.

      Thanks.
      I saw Anastasia growing in a garden last year, each plant 5-6’ tall with about 20 flowers on. There must have been 10-12 bulbs growing to form a massive block of colour. Great fragrance too. That image made me want to grow them.
      I have quite a few different lilies but I do love the Martagon types. Also, Lily Pricei for scent and compact alpine habit.
      Key is plenty of drainage around the bulb. Gently scrape the compost away to check the crown of the bulb. If it feels solid then everything is fine.

    Instead of the small rocks that you put in the compost, can I put coarse sand instead?? I am moving during the same date that I will receive my bulbs and to find the small room is in 150 books …. A big job!!

      Hi and thanks for your message and for taking the time to watch the video.
      You can use coarse sand, and it works well for drainage. I used to use it myself.
      I switched to perlite as it works even better for drainage and better still is incredibly light for when you have to move the containers around.
      If you already have the sand then you may as well use it up.
      Good luck with your move 🌸

    How do you call your green "table" to mix your soil and perlite? I want to buy one but don’t know the name of it! Thanks.

      It’s just called a potting tray in most U.K. garden centres.
      The one I have is made by Stewart Plastics and cost about £10 I think.
      They are very robust and hold a good amount of compost in them too.
      Happy gardening

    Hi I've got a collection of 25 from gardening direct 3 have rotted but the rest seem ok I've got them in 17.5cm pots atm will they be ok in these for their first year?? Cheers

      @diyhomeandgardening  2 роки тому +1

      Hi. Thanks for the message. Shame that you have lost 3 so soon.
      That size pot will actually be fine for the first year. I did mine in much bigger pots last year, which was the first year of growing them, but they don’t make full size in their first year.
      Make sure to provide support for them though, a cane will be fine so long as it is positioned away from the bulb.

    Wonderful video. During this “summer” period in England can I not plant them direct into a patio planter and leave in the garden? Also I notice when you repotted them you covered the stem roots around the neck of the plant - is this essential?

    • @diyhomeandgardening
      @diyhomeandgardening  3 роки тому +2

      The bulbs are available in garden centre from February throughout to about April, generally. You can plant them directly into planters.
      I planted them deeper to encourage good root development around the neck of the bulb and hopefully give sufficient depth for flowering and new bulbs to form.

      Thanks for the message. I think it’s more a rebranding thing to highlight how tall they can get. You are correct though as they were always just tree lillies.

    Why is your forefinger so dirty?

    • @diyhomeandgardening
      @diyhomeandgardening  6 місяців тому

      Thanks for watching so intensely.
      I assume my hands and fingers are so dirty from doing the compost mix and from potting the bulbs and other plants.
      Nothing that a good wash won’t take care of though😄
      Enjoy growing your lilies and getting plenty of summer flowers 🪴🌼
