      Thanks for that and thanks for your support. 1000 subs have been a long time coming. Still, it looks looks like I have one or two more hurdles to jump before I get paid. Simon

      Hi Mark, good question. Yes they can, which is why there are so many hybrids and colour forms available today. Kind regards Simon

    Please explain for a novice- could I start them indoors in a pot and transplant to the outdoors when the weather is warmer? (and after frosts have gone).Will they bloom continuously? How high do they grow in the first year?

      Hi Andrew, I guess you could plant them in a pot now and keep them in an unheated greenhouse while they establish, but you would need to find a fairly deep pot to secure the stems. I have grown them in pots before, and they have been fine so it's not a problem. However they will perform best in the ground and they can be planted in March which is only a week or so away. I would not grow them indoors as this will force weak stems, also you can usually expect 3-5ft in the first year depending on the cultivar. Kind regards Simon

      Hi Mark, sadly I have never been involved with plant hybridization so I can't give you any experience on this subject. Simon

    What spacing do you recommend?

      I would say 6-9 inches apart. Simon

    Can I plant these now? Northwest uk.

      I am not sure they are being released from the suppliers just yet. You can buy them mail order, but it is unlikely that they will be sent out until the end of the month. But yes, they are really tough, so you could plant them out now, but if you have freezing weather forecast, I would advise waiting until that has passed. Kind regards, Simon

    Would they griw in the tropics?

    • @walkingtalkinggardeners
      @walkingtalkinggardeners  7 місяців тому

      Hi Geriann, they are more of a subtropical plant but if they can be kept moist throughout the year but in a free draining soil so the bulbs don't become waterlogged, and kept out of midday sun you will probably be fine with them, kind regards Simon
