Idk if its just me, but this trailer basically gives away the entire movie. Maybe the younger audiences have seen the 1980's pet semetary but this one gives the original a twist and shows it with no hesitation. This trailer is not giving me the best vibe for the movie. Hopefully I'm wrong

Brennen White yea, their reasoning was that it would be to much of an effort to include anything to do with the book. They still didn’t mention the Wendigo, they didn’t do the Zelda death scene right. Zelda is one of the most terrifying parts of the book, and she is one of Rachel’s biggest fears, the tool that used to lure her to her death. Now to the obvious switching of the children. Gage’s death was more traumatic, and the reason that he was so terrifying was the fact that he was just a baby, something that’s supposed to be non-threatening, and adored suddenly turned into something evil. It’s why Stephen king wrote it that way. The original at least managed to get the kids right, and Zelda was at least a little scary. In this remake the scariest thing about it is the damn cat.

Wow this trailer showed WAY too much, I really hope they didn’t alter the book and make Ellie the one who dies and that they keep it as Gage. I really do believe this is one of the most spoiler filled trailers ever

My hope is that it's a huge bait and switch to make us think that. The first trailer had the dad screaming, "Gage!" with the sound of the truck speeding by in the background. I think the daughter could just be one of the creepy masked kids who end up worshipping the cemetery or whatever and she gets messed up too.
Yep that's exactly what they have done. Once again a great story has been completely changed around. I was really excited about this remake until now, totally destroyed the material. Oh well, I hope everyone likes it if you are still excited about it.
If you check out the new poster, they have 'zombie Ellie' front and centre, so I believe it is entirely intentional and hopefully for a good reason. Otherwise, yes it's just a major spoiler. Maybe having Gage die was just too brutal for a wide cinema release.
It's a remake and based on a book...95% of people watching knows what will happen.
This is the most 'whole-film-in-a-single-trailer' trailer I've seen since The Shallows. The WHOLE film is in this trailer. They even gave away Zelda here. Not sure how I feel about the changes from the source material. It isn't even the same story anymore after this trailer. This is what I gleaned from this trailer.
Pros (so far):
- Wendigo plot element is here, though perhaps a little too much so. We'll have to wait and see on that.
- Casting (I guess. I mean they'll never replace or outdo Fred Gwynne, but I can accept the prolific John Lithgow.)
- Church looks gnarly.
Cons/Other:
- Oh, everything else.
- It doesn't necessarily look like Maine. The characters now live in cabins in the woods it seems, going for a blatant, forced, easy creep factor instead of the alluring surprise of these events happening in a quiet New England neighborhood.
- Changing the climactic demon child to Ellie is a bad idea, given the part she plays in the actual story/novel. Should've been kept as Gage. Now it's the girl from 'The Ring' LOL
- Judging from all the changes, it also looks like there will be no sign or involvement of Rachel's parents beyond maybe the Zelda stuff, seen spoiled here in the trailer.
- Apparently, the kids from 'Sinister' and 'Frank' from 'Donnie Darko' are here, so there's that.
- There was never anything creepily ritualistic about the actual Pet Sematary that the children built, just the Wendigo-possessed Micmac Indian burial ground beyond.
- The Micmac grounds seemingly being a swamp now (the shot was too quick to get a good detailed look, but it looked like a swamp) lends a little bit of a creep factor to it all, however, there was just something so deeply disturbing about the dry, frozen ground and wide-open rock formations of the original story.
At least there seems to be a coherent narrative here, and it still might be worth seeing.
this. this is exactly why I don't like this trailer. thank you for helping me put my thumb on exactly the things I didn't like about this haha. it gave away so much, and I also really hate they changed the kid. Ellie was important to the plot of the story my FREAKING OUT while with her mom and grandparents in Chicago. how they gonna handle that? just completely do away with that plot point? ridiculous.
I stopped watching half way through because i realized the same thing. it seems to be in perfect chronological order. as if the trailer guy was lazy and procrastinated until the last minute.
Do you think the Timmy Baterman storyline will be cut? Or will they add an updated flashback story of this undead character from Jud's past?

They likely will due to the fact that CGI exists and they didn’t have it back when the original was made. I doubt it’ll have much screen time but I could be wrong. (Due to a scene in this trailer where Judd and the Father of Ellie Which I don’t know the name of.. look directly up into the camera. It makes sense due to the often described tall elk-like creature often portrayed)

It's a remake of the 1989 movie based on a 1983 novel. There's been a boost in King movies so they're banking on it. I already saw the original IT before I saw the 2017 version, but still enjoyed it mainly on nostalgia

There is still a lot the trailer didn't show that is on the script. In the script A dog that was buried in the pet sematary comes back and kills church the cat and also church the cat tries to kill Gage. When you see in the trailer church walking in the middle of the road he didn't just return from the pet sematary. Luis drove the cat miles away because church was a second of killing Gage and what you see is the cat walking down the road coming back where luis drove him away, luis hoped the cat would stay away and not find its way back but church finds them. When church finds the way back luis is having a birthday party for Gage. Ellie has not seen the cat for days and was upset but when she sees church she runs to him. The cat drags her into the road and is the one that dies as you can see in the trailer.

In the book a huge part of Gage being the one who died taught his sister about death, her dealing with her brothers death was a huge part of the book. She could also use the shining.

I do not know if this works well as a jump scare movie. The best of the book is on the words, the dialogues. That chapter where the old man tells Louis the story about the cementery and his own dog give me goosebumps.

Some plot changes are fine but literally changing the sibling that dies from the little boy to the older girl? I guess they didn’t understand what made the original source material so upsetting. Also, if they were going to change it, why not keep it a secret to shock the audience?
I think maybe because Gage stabbing him at the end is kind of chucky-territory and they don't want it to come off that way

Take the story of Salem's Lot. There is the part where the younger boy bites the baby and drops it to the floor. Then the baby is turned. He tends to use children a lot to make things even creepier.

Wasn't the directors mate it was the screenplay writer. Jeff bulhler he penned it and changed the plot. There is only so much you can do with a 3 year old in terms of acting but maybe a little cgi (just a little).. The thing I most hate is the little girl got destroyed by a 18 wheeler yet she shows no sign of injury just a little grey...
If a little girl got hit by an 18 wheeler, there wouldn't be enough of her left to bury :p

No one will top Gwynne, or the original. The themes are just too deep and truly bone chillingly frightening. I'll bite, but only because of the super talent of John Lithgow. Also after this movie leaves a bad taste in my mouth, the original will taste that much sweeter.

King's book was a masterpiece, I was genuinely terrified when I read it, it's one of my favorites. Because of this, I already dislike the changes but this is the smaller problem. I can accept them if the movie is really good. Unfortunately based on the trailers, it's not a good one.

Trailers these days are spoilers. Before you'd get a 30 second trailer and have more questions then answers sometimes feel like you are going into a movie blind, now they got theatrical trailers that are like mini movies in of themselves.
