Most college programs are doing the exact same thing, & if they say they're not theyre lying. The HUGE Football programs like Alabama, Clemson that may not be doing the same thing, but used to, still get so much more unbalanced publicity from the media that it basically is all of the recruiting pull that they need.
I feel sorry for Herm Edwards. I think the NCAA, and really, the government of the US, went overboard in how they dealt with this issue. But it was what is was. And the bottom line is, Arizona St should have followed the rules. I am hoping Herm Edwards will still be standing when all this is done, and still be the head coach there.
Disagree massively. Nobody should have the "authority" to decide who meets who, or when, or where. There absolutely needs to be limits on who can declare "rules". There is no valid reason for a rule like this. Okay, they can't meet next to a dangerous boiler, or in the vault of a bank. Sure. Setting a rule where they can't meet at all. No! That is scary stuff. Why does this rule make any sense whatsoever?
Some more I understood from the thing is recruits could visit the campus but they couldn't interact with any of the coaching staff at all. So you could go visit the campus but it's not an official visit and you have no communication with any of the staff of that program
You know, with the SC ruling, the scandal could be completely moot. The Arizona State players have an argument that the entire NCAA regulatory system is illegal and anticompetitive, and it's not impossible that the courts would take their side. So the NCAA may well have its hands tied on this one.
This is the culture at asu. Starts at the top and flows down. The athletic department and the compliance office protect bad coaches. They did this with the baseball coach and look the other way on other things. While the compliance office directly reports to the general counsel, the director of compliance has a office on the same floor as the ad administration over looking the football field. How hard hitting do you think he's going to be with his buddies Asu has the most major ncaa infractions of any school.. herm, the assistant coach. The director of compliance and maybe the athletic director should all be gone.
Antonio Pierce should be fired. If an employer finds out that an employee is causing so many problems within the staff they shouldn’t be on the staff. I understand that the rule is a questionable one but to go as far as they did to break them makes me think they shouldn’t be in charge of a program. You have to try to abide by rules not intentionally break them.
College football NCAA violations? Oh my goodness, really! Pay these players with health care and education for a lifetime up to achieving their PHD.’s. The monies generated by college sport spread across all collegiate sports at a university to include paying professors will still leave money to be made by the networks, divisions, & leagues. The recent supreme court decision was unanimous, which is rare. The courts have made their decision up to collegiate profiters to decide how much to share.
I say give him a promotion, he figured out how to get er done while the government was trying to shut everyone down. You can’t stop the will to succeed and if that means Improvising then so be it!!! Keep up the good work Herm!!!
If the B12 doesn’t take Houston again the entire board of that conference needs to be sent to mental hospital or prison...... They literally used to play with the majority of teams in that bloody conference, and they’ve had more top ranked teams in the last 20 years than UCF. The problem is Texas runs that conference and college is a corrupt pos sport where teams openly create cartels to prevent other schools to compete in recruiting so all of sudden UH will never make the conference no matter how much sense it makes....
Aren’t the players the ones that all of these coaches are supposed to protect? Everybody keeps saying that it was a COVID-19 dead period. That’s completely wrong. The dead period in recruiting happens every year. The COVID-19 part of this situation has to do with the fact nobody was supposed to be allowed on any campus. The PAC had already canceled their season in every sport. For everybody to say that this is nothing is ignorant. They violated actual NCAA rules not rules that were put into place because of the pandemic. The fact that ASU snuck over 30 recruits onto the school campus and secretly put them up in a hotel let’s you know what they were doing was a violation of the rules. The fact they did all of this after all sporting events had been canceled and all classes had been suspended and all of the other students were forced to take online classes made them think nobody will know this ever happened.
This could be a big opportunity for ASU. They have gotten the recruits they needed the last 2 years to create a strong core and those players are just now ready to compete week in and week out on a national stage. They bring in a coach who is really good with the x's and o's, and they could have a break out year like Arkansas did in 98. The real question is can they keep the momentum after that. The biggest problem with ASU and UA is that the state of Arizona doesnt produce enough blue chip players to maintain programs year after year.
Herm Edwards put a lot of kids in harms way by hosting players during this pandemic. The fact that they didn’t play two games last season speaks for itself. This is not a slap in the risk offense and should cost Edwards and Pierce their job.
Why was hiring Herm Edward a questionable hire he was a damn good coach. And honestly Arizona State needed to make a splash with a guy like him who has NFL tenure.

I’m a Oregon schools fan. But this was a very good report, and balanced analysis. I too support Herm Edwards. Arizona State needs to stay with him and clean up the woke may sayers who FEEL they aren’t being treated fairly because they were passed over for a job or position. Coaches who breached protocol suggestions during this COVID thing were being sympathetic to parents and athletes who world was being derailed and had limited funds and opportunities for visits. The staff did their best to accommodate them. Good for the staff at Arizona State. This is the kind and good character quality everyone knows is Herm Edwards.
I find it a bit troubling that this seems to be bigger news in the College Football World than the whole Michigan situation. I get that ASU is in the wrong for this, but I can't believe what has come to light at UM hasn't been covered more or talked about nearly as much
Unless your school is a mid conference school like the MAC MWC or CUSA your school is doing this it is part of the way these major schools run the amount they make out of these kids is insane
I’m sure they’re worse things going on in college football. Don’t think Herm should lose his job. Coach suspension, lose of scholarships and post season ban is an appropriate punishment
I think if Edwards has fired the assistant head coach when he found out the guy was toxic, you take away scholarships and do the one year post season ban, and even save Edwards. But considering Edwards HAD to know about the unbelievably toxic environment being created around his program and not doing enough to snuff it out, he deserves to go too. I also refuse to believe the AD didn’t hear rumors and know something. So he has to go too. In high school, we had one of these toxic type coaches and it was whispered in the halls by even non-athletes. It wasn’t until parents of football players stormed the Principals office, that the school acted and fired the coach. Everybody knows, even if no one is saying anything. So Edwards and the AD knew. They gotta go.

Cheating is cheating and if you get exposed punishment is appropriate. Everyone involved should be fired. As a matter of fact the unscrupulous parents and kids who indeed knew what they were doing was also illegal should suffer some consequences as well.
This is probably low end stuff in comparison to some schools violations. They got caught doing what a handful of other programs were doing. Doesn't warrant firing.
Scott, I am with you 100%. Sure, penalize them to some degree, but don't cut their heads off. Like you said, they didn't pay anyone or give them cars, chicks, etc. ASU becoming a competitive team is good for college football. It's good for the Pac-12.

Funny that when Miami, Florida under Meyers tenor and Ohio State did way worse things. Including Miami literally paying players and they all 3 got a slap on the wrist. Few season post season bans and few less scholarships. Nothing major for the worst offenses. Now NCAA is looking to get their respect back and use ASU as an example?.. wtf! Gutless as always and its not and accident that Urban Meyers wnt to NFL to coach again. His track record of yes, winning but breaking every rule possible to win. All schools walk a fine line but Urban didnt care to look at the line. When he left Florida for “Health” reasons. Over 30 players of his had violations connected to them and his program. Then that 5 yrs at 1 school happened at OSU. Magically, Urban had health issues, yet again. Right as NCAA started digging into the 3rd program in a row of Meyers. Oh Meyers health is bad again, he retires and realizes that the NCAA has finally caught onto his games and may not give him 5 yrs till they show up from now on. So he goes to NFL next. Not saying he’s a bad coach but we will c how good he really is now that he can’t literally buy wins. NFL is setup to make all the teams competitive or setup to turn a team into a winner if done correctly in a year or two. How will Urban do on a level playing field? We will see soon. 😂
They shouldn't have stopped recruiting visits in the first place. I don't care about ASU. But give them a a moderate scholarship reduction and be done with it. I hope they don't fire Edwards.
You mentioned the word "illegal" many times, breaking an NCAA rule isn't illegal, its a violation. ASU has not had this much positive momentum in forever, they need to accept what comes and keep Coach Edwards!
It's not like ASU is a top 10 team, they are a perennial underachiever and them missing out on a bowl game and getting a few scholarships taken away won't make a difference.
This will be a mess because an internal conflict is going to cause external chaos. While the NCAA can't investigate it's way out of a shoebox, it won't have to in this case. Disgruntled coached collected the evidence for them and can't wait to testify against their former staff mates. The ASU staff has done the essential investigatory work for the NCAA. Herm and his whole staff will have to go. A staff divided like that will not succeed anyway, so maybe it is for the best.

it’d be better/ more likely for asu to get banned from bowl appearances for a couple of years instead of the school getting a fine
This is done all over the place. There was an incident in Tucson where two Arizona basketball players were in an accident while "test driving" a brand new Ford Mustang at 2:00 am. Nobody even questioned it in Tucson. No trouble came from it.
Lol.......Suuuuurrrrrrreeeeeee....
Most college programs are doing the exact same thing, & if they say they're not theyre lying. The HUGE Football programs like Alabama, Clemson that may not be doing the same thing, but used to, still get so much more unbalanced publicity from the media that it basically is all of the recruiting pull that they need.
This instrumental is relaxing
I'm not saying Herm is innocent.I'm just surprised because I met him, and he seemed like a solid guy
Every coach does this
I feel sorry for Herm Edwards.
LSU had 30+ recruits on campus during the dead period and did it publicly yet they get no violation
What if the “Snich” is an LSU All American and HOF???
I
Some more I understood from the thing is recruits could visit the campus but they couldn't interact with any of the coaching staff at all. So you could go visit the campus but it's not an official visit and you have no communication with any of the staff of that program
I don't know how this is worse than any similar situation.
does not seem like that a big deal and should not be against the rules
You know, with the SC ruling, the scandal could be completely moot. The Arizona State players have an argument that the entire NCAA regulatory system is illegal and anticompetitive, and it's not impossible that the courts would take their side. So the NCAA may well have its hands tied on this one.
I really don't see why it's such a big deal.
Illegally hosting players while other schools aren’t gives them an unfair advantage in recruiting
That's it????? Weak sauce. Thought there were some cars or homes or big cash payments involved.
How hard hitting do you think he's going to be with his buddies
Asu has the most major ncaa infractions of any school.. herm, the assistant coach. The director of compliance and maybe the athletic director should all be gone.
Hopefully they aren’t given the death penalty
Antonio Pierce should be fired. If an employer finds out that an employee is causing so many problems within the staff they shouldn’t be on the staff. I understand that the rule is a questionable one but to go as far as they did to break them makes me think they shouldn’t be in charge of a program. You have to try to abide by rules not intentionally break them.
Sucks when something happens everywhere and people make a big deal when somebody finally gets caught the rules are there to keep the wealth on top
I didn't think they were good enough for anything to "end".
Damn straight
It is tragic that rules and laws apparently no longer have any meaning in our society.
everyone trying to cancel everyone. it's a shitty time we live in.
In golf they call it "protecting the course".
I doubt any major program ceased recruiting operations during the dead period.
I say give him a promotion, he figured out how to get er done while the government was trying to shut everyone down. You can’t stop the will to succeed and if that means Improvising then so be it!!! Keep up the good work Herm!!!
Scott , do a video about the expansion of the CFB playoff , specifically how UCF might/should get the nod from the BIG12
What kind of nod?
If the B12 doesn’t take Houston again the entire board of that conference needs to be sent to mental hospital or prison......
They literally used to play with the majority of teams in that bloody conference, and they’ve had more top ranked teams in the last 20 years than UCF. The problem is Texas runs that conference and college is a corrupt pos sport where teams openly create cartels to prevent other schools to compete in recruiting so all of sudden UH will never make the conference no matter how much sense it makes....
Im not the guy that says everybody cheats but this isn’t a big deal the only person you could really hurt here are the players
Where has he ever won with his own players? He set K.C. back several years.
@@OneManParade what do you mean where has he went with his own players you inherit players in the NFL dude it is what it is it's called salary cap and college you recruit guys.
Give that staff a raise! No one, absolutely no one twisted those kids and their families to go outside. I see consenting adults not letting a virus with a a 99.7% survival rate get in the way of their success.
Hey look
We found the sociopath
@@lordrayden3045 So much stunning, so much brave!
I agree completely tony ignore ignorant comments
I’m a Oregon schools fan. But this was a very good report, and balanced analysis. I too support Herm Edwards. Arizona State needs to stay with him and clean up the woke may sayers who FEEL they aren’t being treated fairly because they were passed over for a job or position.
Coaches who breached protocol suggestions during this COVID thing were being sympathetic to parents and athletes who world was being derailed and had limited funds and opportunities for visits. The staff did their best to accommodate them. Good for the staff at Arizona State. This is the kind and good character quality everyone knows is Herm Edwards.
You are totally right! Pretty sure it happens in all College Football! Penalize one, penalize all! Goooo Sun Devil!!!
I mean Football was already dead at ASU....there are only a select few schools that actually have a Football Team.
That's just what we know. How did a school that is not a brand start getting way better recruits? Because kids visit when they aren't supposed to?
I find it a bit troubling that this seems to be bigger news in the College Football World than the whole Michigan situation. I get that ASU is in the wrong for this, but I can't believe what has come to light at UM hasn't been covered more or talked about nearly as much
Thank you! Ridiculous isn't it?
Unless your school is a mid conference school like the MAC MWC or CUSA your school is doing this it is part of the way these major schools run the amount they make out of these kids is insane
Last time I checked, a visit takes two parties, unless the recruits were kidnapped.
Damn this sucks. I'm not an ASU fan but Jayden Daniels is my favorite college QB at this time.He is going to turn up in the NFL in 2022.
Not good and ASU Baseball went through the same thing a few years ago when Pat Murphy was the coach.
As a Chiefs fan I’ve never been a Herm fan. Seems like a descent guy though.
This ☝
Why a black coach, Alabama did it too.
Someone likes the trendy word “toxic”
@@rileyandmike ...and this concerns you, why? I got news for you bud, "toxic" has been around, and had this same meaning before SJWs took it over. It still means the same thing. So how about you take your shady tail on somewhere else, neckbeard.
@@general330 no idea what the last sentence even means! Must be “toxic”!
@@rileyandmike Google 'Neckbeard' and you'll get it. But then again, as a neckbeard, you might not.
@@general330 I’ll pass - if you have to explain a joke/insult - it isn’t very good! Anyway, Karen, you have a non-toxic, safe space, therapy animal rest of your week! I won’t reply anymore - but you will 😉
So it ok for college players to go through the transfer portal like crazy. But want to judge and jury over college team when they violate a rule. Wow
One is within the rules and one isn't.
Yes because transferring is perfectly legal lmao
NCAA recruiting rules are some of the most ridiculous things going on.
Cheating is cheating and if you get exposed punishment is appropriate. Everyone involved should be fired. As a matter of fact the unscrupulous parents and kids who indeed knew what they were doing was also illegal should suffer some consequences as well.
wait, this is over visitation? I know top schools that purchase cars and give money to recruits. this is nothing..
You personally know of schools that give cash and cars?
@@TimagesPhx the great O-H did
This is probably low end stuff in comparison to some schools violations. They got caught doing what a handful of other programs were doing. Doesn't warrant firing.
this isn’t horrible. i don’t think it’s worth firing anyone, just give em recruiting limitations and playoff limitations for a couple years.
Scott, I am with you 100%. Sure, penalize them to some degree, but don't cut their heads off. Like you said, they didn't pay anyone or give them cars, chicks, etc. ASU becoming a competitive team is good for college football. It's good for the Pac-12.
It’s always that disgruntled employee.
We talking bout visits....visits man??? *in my Allen Iverson voice*🤔🤔🤔😂😂👌
Todd Graham was awesome.. he used to give all us Highschool coaches in the area 2 free tickets for every home game..
We all here know Pitt is a Stepping stone at this point, Unfortunately…But all I remember from Graham when he was here was “Speed, Speed, Speed!”
This is why Coaches like Herm are better suited at HBCU'S, and the kids should go there too. The money will follow.
ASU hasn't been relevant since Jake Plummer.
Why do schools put up with the NCAA. Schools should just opt out.
Arizona State football died to me when they fired Frank Kush for doing nothing more than getting the attention of a player.
Sooooo, they haven’t fired Herm, yet? Why? Hmmmm.
They can't fire him now! He is black! What a joke.
Because the investigation is ongoing lmao
@@rmichels05 ummm, most places don’t wait until an investigation is finished.
Herm.....DON'T PRESS SEND!!!!! But hey.....YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME!!!
Boo fuggin hoo...get over it...id find any edge I could just to be able to compete with top 10 schools...geezus fuggin khrist
U$C on a yearly basis violates recruiting rules and a plethora of NCAA rules, and the NCAA doesn't give a fuck because it's U$C.
The NCAA should be investigating U$C more as well.
“A” state is hopeful he can do the Deion Sanders thing.
Questioning Coach Edwards on his actions at ASU, makes me think did he do anything as Jet’s Head Coach that was illegal?
I can definitively say no, because Herman Edwards never coached the Colts.
@@MatthewChristianMurray I meant the Jets I have no idea why I thought he coached the Colts. Look back on it I know why I mixed Tony Dungy and Edwards up.
Remember when Alabama was tickled to have Herm speak ...
There are colleges that pay their players cmon now
I don't think that Arizona State deserves the death penalty. Loss of 5 scholarships per year for 3 years and a fine of $200,000
No bigger story than ASU? Umm what about Michigan and Bo Schembechler?
This will be a mess because an internal conflict is going to cause external chaos. While the NCAA can't investigate it's way out of a shoebox, it won't have to in this case. Disgruntled coached collected the evidence for them and can't wait to testify against their former staff mates. The ASU staff has done the essential investigatory work for the NCAA. Herm and his whole staff will have to go. A staff divided like that will not succeed anyway, so maybe it is for the best.
