Colt truly died in the car accident, but it was a slow death. The nerve damage, the brain injury, all too much to over come. Met him three years ago and he was soft spoken and humble…but his body was failing him. So sad…rest peacefully Colt..One Love.

I actually thought it started with that bad concussion he suffered against San Diego State in 2007. He was literally knocked out, by a helmet-to helmet hit that would be a illegal today. We didn't have concussion protocol back them, and he only missed one game, we knew little about CTE 14 years ago. I think the automobile accident just hastened his downward spiral. Should have tested the brain for CTE.

I'm a white male and I've have plenty of experience with the system, but I do know for a fact it would have been way worse if I wasn't white. Especially where I'm from. He became addicted to opioids and painkillers he used to battle numerous injuries and brain trauma he sustained. It really changed who he was physically and mentally. He had a broken arm during spring practice but he was out there training nonetheless. He wanted to make an impact and truly did by setting that example. I never knew about the baggage he brought with him there but which is why I assume he was always out there proving himself with the team even with his injury at the time... Would've been a WAY higher draft pick nowadays. I mean we saw Jordan Love taken in the 1st round last year after playing equally subpar competition and putting up stats that didn't come close to Brennan. It's a shame where he ended up. RIP

Great job Scot for not knowing him in his time and era, but he was the man in Hawaii we love him and we will definitely miss him. He will never be forgotten, and yes to me that brain injury had a big part in his trouble but even with that he is still Hawaii's and GOAT to the Islands Mahalo.

Damn, that's upsetting that he passed away. I hate to speculate, but an overdose seems rather probable as the cause of death. Too many people get caught in that cycle of hell that is addiction. He was a super exciting player to watch. I never heard anything about him after college though. I wonder if he were to come out in a more recent draft if he would have been able to have a bigger impact in the league. RIP man.

Playing football from pop warner all the way to college then professional football. Im surprised that all these athletes dont all have brain injuries that has cause them psychological , mental and physical damage. Then there is the fear of not being successful the pressure of doing your best on and off the field and finding peace/pain relief in substance abuse. Everything is free if you live a rock star lifestyle its so easy to be distracted and go offline . Its a hard life to live as a football athlete mentally and physically. We as a community of fans and peers can do more to support the well being of these athletes. The price they have to pay for our entertainment and financial rewards. No amount of money can replace a life but in a split second all that can change for a football player or any athlete. They dedicate their life long commitment to their sport hoping to make it professionally and if they don't succeed its tough on them. We don't see these athletes struggles but its real and so is the brain injuries. Big mahalo to Colt for playing a tough sport and shinning your amazing talent on the the field. Aloha keakua
