That was cool! You two should do more of these.
Thanks it was really fun to do 👍🏼👍🏼
It was VERY cool. I frequently prepare Steve's 5 min curry, however it would be marvelous to sample JP's offering, sounds delicious! As a point of observation , Steve serves our classic favorite 'come as what may' curry whilst sporting an immaculately tidy and precise hairstyle.....JP on the other hand serves an immaculately stylised platter of tasty morsels whilst sporting a 'come what may' hairstyle ☺
I enjoy this observation
this guy JP reminds me of many masters that have brought me to their restaurant kitchens and shown me "secrets". i like him
I liked the detail given to more advanced techniques in this video; it's a nice bit of cooking lore beyond a standard recipe video.
Thanks it was super fun to shoot
What a great guest! It's so interesting to see JP's spin on your recipe. I hope you have him on again.
I'd go with JP's for flavour combinations because I am curious but served in Steve's portion size. Thank you to you both
JP seems like a super fun dude. Amazing video. Hope to see JP again on the channel.
I really loved that you had JP show us his skills and creativity - I will definitely keep his places in mind whenever I'm in town :) I'm a serious onion fan, but I'd have to say I need more food; so Dave's would be for dinner and JP's for desert :D
Ha ha nicely said 👍🏼😄
This was pretty cool--interesting to see the extra time and deliberateness in the "fancy" cooking. Nice collab.
Thanks a mill
Omg. Sieving spices. Yes. Never thought of doing that, hate the woody bits.
That’s the difference between a €2 meal & a €20 meal. Time & Presentation. Awesome bit of education right there 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Loved the roast onion idea, I'll be trying that, thanks 👍
This was a fantastic view! you both are so engaging! love this type of cooking difference!
Lightworks. I am loving this video and thank you for sharing these recipes.
For the umami taste I made a dashi out of seaweed and froze it in icecube form. That way it won't go bad and you can dose it really well.
Very interesting to see the more artistic and fancy side of cooking. Although i will always love simple and quick dishes. Great collab!
Loved this cooking duet. Learned a lot from both of you. Hope JP finds his comb eventually. 😉
I'd eat JP's curry as a starter, be delighted and impressed - but still hungry - so eat Steves also. And be both happy AND full.
JP is great, hope he returns :)
After yesterday's results I'm glad you guys put something out. You guys do cheer me up
Thanks sorry to hear the results 👍🏼😄
@@thehappypear no worries man. I do need to eat healthier as well. Can you guys do some soups as well. Thanks guys
@@thepolticalone961 They have a playlist of soup recipes: ua-cam.com/video/7BOOIqW9BQ4/v-deo.html
Loved this collab. Would happily eat either creation.
Baking and using a blowtorch on vegetables looks so impressive. I love your cooking. Thank you for sharing!
Love this video! You guys worked wonderfully! Love the both ways of cooking your chickpea curry but truth be known....due to time, I love your recipe Steve!
This is really amazing. Nice and fast with nuances, of course. Fabulous!
A surely fabulous inspiring presentation. What we have tried of your foods never have we been disappointed. Rock on guys rock it never stop.
I've been to his place in Galway, Cava, its fantastic.
Love how humble jp is.. Steve is dreamy as usual 😍
You need this guy on more for sure!
Fun fact: Jerusalem artichokes are sold as Topinambur around here now but the traditional Austrian word translates to "earth pear".
yep Topinambour in France as well
I would never have thought of blowtorching vegetables! Mind you, those hot things make me nervous. I am a big believer in blending spices and cooking them slowly, rather than using curry powder - my spice rack is getting out of hand!
Does blowtorching not make them more carcinogenic, though?
Nice one 👍🏼😄
I think heterocyclic amines and/or advanced glycation end products are produced much more on charred meat than plants. As far as heating the oil flaming hot, I think that's a problem, though I know that's not what you asked about. Nutritionfacts.org has info about these topics.
“You’re a classy man for someone that looks like a viking, wow. “ 😂
He really is 👍🏼😄💚 one classy Viking

@@thehappypear - That's the most Irish Viking I've ever heard LOL
That line was epic!

"Kiss the chickpeas"...I love you guys! Thank you.
Great to see a Michelin starred chef looking an talking like a normal person. Looks like a very tasty recipe! I love chickpeas and this just elevates them. Thanks for showing me this.
I really love JP's version but I guess I'd still go for Steve's curry ;D
JP’s was amazing really elegant and a delightful change from a more standard curry you’d have at home 👍🏼😄
I do your 5 minute chickpea curry all the time (even cook on the fire when camping) I love it, my grandkids love it. But, I'm going with JP's.......nom nom :-)
Love this one! Hope you do another show together like this soon.
Both curries look delicious. It is interesting to see the unusual things that JP does.
Do more of these man...honestly so cool
Amazing video lads! Absolutely awesome!
Is the recipe from your guests curry available online? With both of you cooking at the same time, it was hard to understand what he was doing and what amounts he was using. Thank you.
This is really great! Thanks gentlemen....!
The Italian word for sunflower is girasole, which was likely misheard as Jerusalem
Both are good sometimes we need a quick dish, and sometimes we want to play longer, great way to do onions,
I would cook the 5 min curry, but only because it takes 5 mins and is still delicious! I learnt a bunch: I might try baking the onion and the mushroom broth, coconut fat and blended diced tomatoes.
Does anyone else just end up watching Steve cook without actually taking in what he's saying? It's like porn. Vegan chef based porn. 😍
Wow love it thanks a mill 👍🏼😄
@@thehappypear you are very welcome 😋
Emily Sheffield have you ever watched Avant Garde on UA-cam? 😍🌱
@@Bianca-pw5cn haha yes I have! Gav is lovely but Steve just oozes sex appeal hahaha xxx
Emily Sheffield Avant Garde could learn lots from these guys!!!
More of those please! Bloody legends
Star anise pods toasted and added whole to curry add a lovely flavor.
Mat J Yes, that!!
Oooh a dear friend of mine used to work at Cava Bodega, good to see the beardy face behind it :))
He’s brilliant 👍🏼😄
What a fun video. I have never had Jerusalem Artichokes, so curious to try that one, but both made me hungry. Really interesting to see how to twist things a bit to take your Curry one step further. And the basic on the side, not to forget eating healthy and tasty can be EASY. Thank you for another awesome video
Delighted to hear thanks
As a professional vegan chef at the beginnings of my career, I appreciate this video so much :D
Loved it lads! More of this stuff :D
I really liked this collaboration guys. Super interesting way to spin your channel and food. The comparison and contrast is so cool! Tree Tums Up!
Around 11:00, "I have a big one."
Never a doubt. 😁
Sorry 👍🏼😄😂
why no close-up shot of both curry done? o_0 thanks for lovely video and uplifting mood
Michelin star curry is much more expensive but as a chef myself I think is nice version. Mushroom broth great but expensive for a average person to produce also Jerusalem artichokes, nice earthy taste not so common available(same as coriander, impossible to find here in South Italy) . In the end I like both curry. Nice video. Kudos
It's commonly thought that food that has been burnt could cause cancer. This is in part down to one particular molecule that forms when food is cooked at high temperatures, known as acrylamide
Lol Steve trying to sabatoge jps dish with the coconut milk
What!? Now I HAVE to go to Ireland!
Would of been nice to see the finished product!
I loved this video! I learned a lot! A shame though that JP took so much time and effort to plate it up, but the end result was nowhere to be seen.. I'm curious!
So are there any more fancy tricks like roasting onions, roasting whole spices and so on...?
Where do I learn more tricks? (besides cooking school). Is there a good book for this?
Yeah I'd love to know too
17:37 Look like a Michelin Chef use "tweezers and a squeezy bottle and you are halfway there" LMFAO
I'd try JP's with added chili, 3 or 5 of them :p
Me: looks for cooking tweezers and a kitchen torch on Amazon
This was such a cool idea!
Knowing my appetite I’d start with JP’s and then when that pan is empty I’d hit Steve’s. Might not bother plating either 🤤
Both please
One of my favorite dish!! Creamy, decadent and delicious!
Definitely keen to add the artichokes to my Steve style curry from now on 🤤
They both look so delicious! :-)
love it ! thanks dudes ..
Delighted to hear thanks
Fantastic flavours but I would want to eat a full bowl full so save the presentation for the top?
why no shot of both dishes side by side at the end? enjoyed the video though, nice concept. :-)
actually, i would leave the table hungry and weighed down with the oil, there's probably more calories in that ''fancy'' version than there is in that whole pan of the quick curry. ''fancy'' would be a rare treat but i much prefer the rustic version. i can roast my herbs and caramelize and char my onions and other veggies on the burner and still use no oil and if i want to eat more, i can without worry. just my humble opinion. 😋❤
Caramelising the onions and roasting Jerusalem Artichokes are great ideas - which I will take away. I would myself make the "bog standard" one and forget the plating LOL
I was making some chickpea and mayo (vegan) for lunch and our cleaning lady was there - and she said - you are so quick in the kitchen - and she tried the mayo and the chickpeas and nori flakes and was convinced it was fish LOL
Steve's meal with Naan bread please!
Temperature of the oven for the oven?
It was around 200 degrees c 👍🏼😄
180
Wow, my favourite foods.
👍🏼😄
Hahahahha JP!!!! This was a classic
It really was he’s brilliant
The Happy Pear this was a great episode lads / social media team. keep it up. That was good.
Depends on if I have five minutes or more time haha. Always fancy if there's time 💯🥂🧅
JP, i have a new hero.
VEGAN MOTIVATION: Went vegan at 13, not rich, non vegan family, and still vegan 3 years later. If I can do it, so can you!
Vegan UA-camr btw
Nice work 👍🏼😄
Well done, you. I've been vegetarian over 40 years, which I always found easy, but vegan is hard. I admire you.
@ m duffy Vegan isn't hard . A lot of Indian food is actually vegan ! Indians have been doing vegan dishes for centuries! There are lots of Indian websites and Indian chefs on You Tube , if you need recipes. And not all Indian food is spicey hot. In fact many Indians don't eat hot food. And some Indians don't eat onions and garlic due religious reasons and some because it's a belief that those two foods cause an imbalance in the brain.
@@md61211 it's really not hard at all and you know dairy is really very bad for you and cruel to innocent animals and the egg business is also cruel
@@md61211 The transition can be hard at first but like any non hard-drug addiction after a few months you stop getting cravings altogether.
Who’s got time!
Is that soy sauce at 16:04 ?
Boiling-hot frying pan + metal spoon, in it goes! How don't they get burnt?!
I want to add a chili to JPs.. and fresh spinach to Steves..
Love this! Curry has turned to a cheap, quick, and lackluster staple in our world. But maybe this can bring it up, dare I say spice things up a bit. *edit I just realized this was from 2019. Still a good idea.
Curry powder on rice noodlesmis amazing just saying but you almost can't go wrong with any curry unless you can't handle spice.
Awesome
👍🏼😄
i smash my own seasoning from seeds... i recommend it... practice, tweak, practice tweak
It be great if you had a third option oil free low fat for folks trying to lose weight...
Lovely though -- steve's humble bowl would be my first choice
Did he do those tattoos himself?
Great recipe.
Sorry, but as Dr. McDougall says "the fat you eat is the fat you wear", and he is right, it unfortunately shows on JP
Steve's looks better but I like the mushroom broth & artichokes JP used (Yum!) so toss up
the fast one....and I don't have a blow torch
New Favourite word: Nuance
What? No taste test between the dishes ?
I think those two recipes where very different
A proper handmade chefs knife would be fitting :)
I'd like to eat one and cook the other ;-)
