    About Blur:
Blur were formed in 1989 by Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon, Alex James and Dave Rowntree and signed with Food/EMI the same year. Announcing their arrival with debut album Leisure in 1991, Blur continued to revolutionise the sound of English popular music with second release Modern Life Is Rubbish (1993). Five successive UK #1 albums followed - with Parklife (1994) and The Great Escape (1995) helping to propel the band to mass popularity in the UK and beyond. The eponymous Blur was released in (1997) and seventh album Think Tank (2003) was Blur’s first as a three-piece after the temporary departure of founding guitarist Graham Coxon.
Twenty one years after the release of their debut album, 2012 saw Blur 21: The Box, the band's body of work compiled and gathered together into one box. Their most recent release as a four-piece, the critically acclaimed chart-topping album The Magic Whip (2015), started life in Hong Kong when the band had an unexpected break in touring in May 2013.

"And the whole world could've passed through me, but I don't know that it means much to me" -- The first time I ever listened to this song 23 years ago that lyric struck me so hard I literally had to pull my car over. Something in me related to it so much and still does to this day.

Not really. Parklife was Blur in their Prime. This song fits well with this album. The song feels like the band are departing and heading a new direction, which is what happened with Damon Albarn a few years after this album came out

anybody remember "in-stores"? you'll have to be old enough to remember record stores... and when a big band was in town for a show, local radio would give them a couple hours. the 90's may be a Blur to most of us dinosaurs but what a fun time for some of the best rock ever!

    Lyrics:
    Good morning lethargy
Drink pepsi is good for energy
The bath's on, smoke in the bedroom
Sore throat and on my neck a nasty bruise
Where it came from, well I don't know
We played last night, it was a good show
Got the play out, second rate chatshow
It's a nation wide deal, so you gotta go
Chuck from the company says it will be alright
    Got an ad on KROQ
    And there's an in-store tonight
    Well I build things up
    Then I let them go
Got to get time share on the radio
Look inside America, she's alright, she's alright
    Sitting out the distance
But I'm not trying to make her mine
    Looking for America
With its kooky nights and suicide
Where the TV says it's alright
Coz' everybody's hung up on something or other
Steppin' off in 20, so the driver says
    I should sleep tonight
But I think I'll watch videos instead
Annie Hall leaves NY in the end
Press rewind and Woody gets her back again
And the whole world could pass through me
But I don't know if it means much to me
    Look inside America
    She's alright, she's alright
    Sitting out the distance
But I'm not trying to make her mine
    Looking for America
With its kooky nights and suicide
Where the TV says it's alright
Coz everybody's strung out on something or other
    And the whole world
    Could pass through me
But I don't know if it means much to me

Some of the greatest Blur lyrics on this song. The biting wit, just sadder this time. Blur weren't a massive success in the US before this album, I think this song is more them imagining what a stereotypical America is like - the advertising, movies and talk shows. Makes for great listening.

Wonderful stuff. This really should've had a better placing in the tracklisting of Blur, it gets overlooked - apart from by anyone here, of course. One of the best tracks on the LP abandoned midway through what used to be called Side 2. They really need to dust this one off whenever they play live again (it'll happen).

What’s wrong with lyrics? This really just follows the themes of depression and self destruction present on the rest of the album which he’d cover once again on 13. And this is much more than just britpop, same goes with their earlier works. Give it another listen, and don’t just dumb it down.

    • @callumscornerstescoclubcar9100
      @callumscornerstescoclubcar9100 4 роки тому +15

I’m pretty sure this song is about a tour of America that they were forced to go on by their label though, after Modern Life is Rubbish was released. I think it went pretty badly and the band always fought each other, so maybe it sounds more britpop because Damon is reflecting on that time (which was during their britpop period). I’m not entirely sure if that’s correct but that makes the most sense to me
