Im peruvian and a lot of other peruvians say "you forgot this..." and for me that is rude if we know that, even you are not peruvian, you recomended a lot of dishes that are delicious and tasty. I mean, Perú has a lot of recipies and products and this man just made a very good recomendation about what he tried. So im very thankful and you others peeuavians should be too.
So happy that you're in Peru. The FOOD is AMAZING. We just did a MAJOR series in Peru from Lima to Cusco and talked a ton about the food. As part of our full-time travel...we'll be headed back to PERU. You're so right about the Peruvian beer..it's refreshing and light and we absolutely love Pisco. Oh yes and the Peruvian wines are so nice and flavorful. EXCELLENT video Mark and it was great seeing you film in the square. We can't wait to get back. If you have any interest in some things to do in Peru we'd love it if you'd watched our Cusco series in Peru and tell us what you think. So happy that you, Jocelyn and the boys are having a great time. We LOVE Cusco.
How are the boys adjusting to the altitude? Find kids don't have as much trouble as us adults. We had to head down to Ollantaytambo stay there for a couple days..to adjust then back up. Cusco ( Cuzco).
I liked the purple corn while I was there. Bembos is good too, which is the peruvian version of a mcdonald's, but better. I had a fantastic and filling Ceviche in Lima.
Thanks for the advice. Though it's my first time in peru I am well travelled so generally pretty good at doing things right without getting ripped off by learning from previous mistakes. Saying that any specific peru advice is more than appriciated.
Mark you forgot about a widespread type of restaurants/food called Chifas/Chifa, it's peruvian but with a strong influence from chinise cuisine, well known among peruvians. Greetings from Lima, love your videos.
A few weeks ago, I went to a Peruvian restaurant and had pescado a lo macho. It was fish that had mussels, calamari, and shrimp with rice and a few sauces. I also ordered Inca Kola.
There used to be here in West Hollywood a hole in the restaurant called Canton. The family that originally owned the place were Chinese Peruvians. There were Chinese dishes, but they had many Peruvian ones such as aji de gallina, anticuchos, lomo satado, and Inka Kola. It's gone now, but Canton gave me an introduction to Peruvian food.
We took our family to Peru, our three adults now. 26, 24, 20, had a blast! My oldest enjoyed cut & alpaca everywhere he could get it. 🤣 My brother, sister and spouses, a cousin and spouse. There were 10 if us, we were there a month! We all loved it went to the North (Huacachina & Nazca), we also went to Cuzco, for a week. Siblings and ai are Peruvian so was even greater for us to go back home. Cuzco affected everyone differently but none of us were sick at the same time. 🤣 Stomach, altitude, oxygen, soroche (altitude sickness) is what happens. My advice is spend 1 or 2 days in Cuzco before going to Machu Picchu to let your body adjust, eat light and rest. Cuzco's elevation is higher than Machu Picchu. Everything is cheap about 3 soles per dollar.
I'm from Peru but I live in the usa since I was 12, and ur video touch my heart. The way so beautiful u talk about Peru and the excitement was amazing. And im so happy to hear specially that ur kids like it was well and omg yees I love inka kola so much🥰
Hey mark, I always buy the bottled water or bring a life straw water bottle with me. In the case of the smoothies, I ask then politely if I they can use a water bottle I give them for the juice and they often say yes so they charge me the same but I use my bottled water. Things to also avoid besides tap water are salads. A bad meal will ruin your trip and have you out for some days. That’s the last thing you want when you’re in a time crunch.
100% agree! Peruvian food is amazing, especially the fruit. I am sad however, that I could not eat much when I was in Cuzco. The altitude made me so sick during the entire week that it was there. My stomach hurt every time I ate or drank. I also bad nausea in spite of drinking the coca tea. I’m planning to go back and hopefully will be more prepared so I can enjoy the culinary delights of Cuzco. Great video and thank you.😊
Great video ❤️! Some delicious dishes that people should try too.
Will you guys be traveling to turkey anytime in the near future? I am traveling to turkey next year and I have always loved your videos. They are very informative.
Hi Nicole, i'd like You can visit Perú, my country. As a peruvian, i can tell You that Perú has many many different landscapes. Perú has oasis, snowfalls, valleys, mountains (like vinicunca called rainbow mountain, it's popular in Instagram), lakes (like 69 lake or Parón lake), dry forest, rainy forest, canyons ( like Colca canyon, cotahuasi canyon or "cañón de los perdidos"), drone forests, natural pools (like Millpu), beaches, also boilong river, and etc, etc, etc. Perú has more than 100 thousand archeology monunents, but boy peruvian people think only un Machu Picchu. What about Rupaq, Choquequirao, Kuelap, Chan chan, Pachacamac sanctuary, etc? Generally allá information about "Perú" is only un Lima and Cusco. But these 2 regions are only a little part of 25 peruvian regions. Each region has different dishes, landscapes, traditions, etc. Perú has 28 microclimates of 32 in the world. Not only dishes are delicious, the fruita are too. Perú is 10% coast, 30% andes and 60% jungle. And Lima is a little part of the peruvian coast. Can You imagine how many attractions we don't have to know? I'm glad You can visit us one day. I hope You enjoy alot. (Sorry, My English is not so good). Greetings from Lima, Perú ;)
Yes the sky is blue and salty! If you don’t no, yes read a little more, Chilean drink is no pisco ,it is wherever you want , Pisco sour is a national drink of Peru !!!!!
There are also two typical seafood meals called "arroz con mariscos" and "tiradito". The first one is similar to "paella" from spain, and the second one is like ceviche but a bit different. There is also a very popular soup called "caldo de gallina", which is very common in the andes
Watch out for the salads!!! My travel companions got very sick eating a salad in Lima at a nice restaurant. Stick to well cooked or fried foods. Make sure the fruits are the kind you peel.
I'm peruvian and I also get sick with the salads most of the time and my friend don't ... it kind of sucks, I guess it is worse if you are from another country
Nice video! You forgot to mention about the chifa with our chaufa, tallarín saltado... also forgot about more seadfood options as Parihuela, jalea, chicharrón de mariscos, tiraditos!! How about the seco de res?! Or our estofado de pollo! Pachamanca and carnero al palo are also so good! Thanks for sharing you experience though :)

I thought I was careful about not drinking water, but I wasn't careful enough. I was sicker than I have ever been! The second time I was there I was more careful and everything was great. They do serve some drinks with ice, but I made sure not to have ice in any drink.
Our shopify shop will go live in 10 days. Finalizing the last of the initial products and the sweatshirts, shirts, travel accessories. So lots of options
Great tip to eat ceviche in the coast because it is all about the freshness of seafood. One thing to be aware of is that Cevicherias only open for lunch because ceviche is done with that morning catch. The to Peruvian ceviche is its simplicity and freshness.
Thank you for the very informative video! :) I'm going to Peru for the first time next month. I was wondering about drinks if ice is safe in hotels like the Marriott? I would love to try a Pisco sour and other drinks but I'm scared of the ice... Do you have any reccomendations?
nearly all food is delicious in Peru, you can eat pretty much whatever you imagine there. BUT be very careful with EGGS, ask them very cooked. My brother went to Cuzco a few years ago and for breakfast the scrambled eggs were a little underdone... He got Salmonella, luckily it was on the last day before the flight back home, so i picked him up at the airport and drove him to the Hospital (where he was for a day)
I'll visit here one day just because Argentina is too expensive. Both look great for south America in my opinion. Heard Colombia is great and fantastic regardless of cocaine market.
