  • After seeing the serving tray I made with April, Lindsay thought that they would make great Christmas presents. I had a bunch more smaller slabs that I cut a few years ago so this project was perfect for those. I made 8 trays: 6 maple and 2 butternut.

Matt those are just beautiful, this has been my theme the last few years for Christmas to make items from lumber from that person's property. It has been very well received, creates a nice connection and story for the recipient.

I deal with the rot and punkyness of woods and inlay with stone dust a great deal.. What i find that works best is to soak the area first with Thin CA Glue.. It seals great and also keeps you from using lots and lots of epoxy because it just soaks into the wood.. Give it a try.. I am a big fan of Generals Salad Bowl Finish as well.. Keep up the good work love your vids..

I have to travel too far to get pigment "tint", I used a dab of Black Gel stain (experiment) and it actually was darker than the tinted pigments they sell. Just an FYI in case you don't have any left. I did this this yr also. People ended up buying a lot of them, and also live edge shelving.
