Making Live Edge Serving Platters

- After seeing the serving tray I made with April, Lindsay thought that they would make great Christmas presents. I had a bunch more smaller slabs that I cut a few years ago so this project was perfect for those. I made 8 trays: 6 maple and 2 butternut.

Matt those are just beautiful, this has been my theme the last few years for Christmas to make items from lumber from that person's property. It has been very well received, creates a nice connection and story for the recipient.
Love the look of those slabs, Matt! Keeping the bark on really gives an insane amount of character. Happy New Year, bud!
Thanks Brad!
I have one of Matt's pieces in our home and it always is a center of conversation....love this guy
I love your art work with wood. I am a 30 year veteran custom deck builder that just semi-retired and am doing inlayedwoodart (ETSY) where my pieces are all functional and decorative. Take care and keep on truckin!
Those came out great. I really appreciate all the epoxy tips and how to handle the bark. Some projects like this are on my list. Happy New Year!
Thank you! Happy New Year to you as well :)
They look amazing. Great idea for presents. It's always a pleasure to watch your videos.
man.....i really like the close up shots of you putting the in the bow-tie. answers so many questions for me. thanks!
Nice boards Matt! I've been having fun with epoxy since you did the video on your moulding. I like using it clear to fill voids because it looks like a window into another world. Happy New Year!
those are outstanding gifts. Never would have thought about that, but then I see the finish product and wow.
Beautiful trays Matt. Thanks for sharing with everyone,
Jim
Thanks Jim!
Very cool. Not only did you make some good presents but you also got some slabs out of that room! : )
+April Wilkerson thanks April! Still have a lot more left lol
Matthew Cremona just throw up the Matt signal and I'm sure the herd will come alleviate any pieces you need removed... I'm still working on the 1/4" wall boards.
+unico260 haha I might have to do another purge soon
Purge some this way! Glad to see you do some wood working, even though I love the Mill build

Happy New Year Matt and family!
There's a nice bit of curl in those maple pieces. The trays look great Matt.
Thanks Greg!
I deal with the rot and punkyness of woods and inlay with stone dust a great deal.. What i find that works best is to soak the area first with Thin CA Glue.. It seals great and also keeps you from using lots and lots of epoxy because it just soaks into the wood.. Give it a try.. I am a big fan of Generals Salad Bowl Finish as well.. Keep up the good work love your vids..
This isn't news, but they look freaking sweet. Love the info on the epoxy as well. Got to do a bit soon. Cheers Matt. Love it.
+1 for Lindsey making a cameo, and +1 to you for completing a honey-do item on time!
WOOO!! you can bring your logs over whenever ;)
I could do that with the smaller pieces, but the larger cherry logs I would need a log arch or something. If you know a guy...
Great work, really enjoyed the time spent with some of your videos.
Thank you!
Thanks for including a link to the epoxy you used.

They turned out awesome! Happy New Year brother!!👍
Thanks! Happy New Year to you as well!
If you are using West Systems epoxy they have a special hardener that is much clearer than their normal hardener. It s the 207 instead of the normal 206. Thanks for the videos!
They came out very nice. Happy New Year.
Thanks Jim!
I got table were had few those bowties and they didn't prevent 2 board to separate (when wood dried and shrunk little bit) barely at all even they were fitted really tight. So looks more decorations than actual benefit.
Butternut!!!😍😍😍😍😍😍😍LOOOOOVE IT!
Process Perfection

Looks great
Thanks!
Beautiful work Matt! I'm just a little concerned that Lindsay sounds just like you! :)
+donny carter haha thanks Donny!
My favorite part was when you put the resin on the bark. When you were feathering it, brother!
I have to travel too far to get pigment "tint", I used a dab of Black Gel stain (experiment) and it actually was darker than the tinted pigments they sell. Just an FYI in case you don't have any left. I did this this yr also. People ended up buying a lot of them, and also live edge shelving.
Great video. You have a great voice. Nice editing / sound / and lighting!
thanks!
nice job matt

Matthew Cremona Happy New Year to you and growing family and looking forward to see more of that fantastic sawmill 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
My favourite one was the rotten one, saved from the firewood pile!
im a subscriber now thanks for sharing all your great ideas, if i may ask, what do you call that kind of a finishing paint you put on to enhance the color of the wood?
Great video. Can you wash these after the epoxy is on for long term use?
