Good stuff, Stu, as always! I am cracking a smile looking at your meticulous work, to include the forthcoming plenum and the perfect pressure differentials when ALL compared to the "cowl-less" banner towing piper cubs flying along the beaches getting that ultimate cooling. What a contrast! LOL! Build-on and great to see you despite your national commitments and busy schedule.
Pain relief, I get pain relief seeing this Stu. In about three years hopefully I’ll be reviewing a lot of your videos, ordering RV8 Empennage very soon we hope. Thanks for posting.
Thanks for this video, Stu. I have been chasing high CHT's on my -7A for a while now. I have a plenum'd James Cowling on my plane so I think I am just more susceptible to air leaks and restriction than a standard Van's cowl. I just did this mod on my #3 baffle over the weekend during my annual along with sealing up some areas where I suspect I was getting spillage. Once the plane is back together - hoping this will help as my #3 was my hottest. I have a ton of other things going on, but this one was on the list! Thanks again for the tips.
Plenum should be way better than normal baffling for leaks. What temps do you consider high in cruise leaned out? Have you checked the timing? That’s can make a big difference on CHTs
Great videos Stu. The engine install videos will come in very handy soon as I'm just about ready to order my engine from Vans for RV7. Still trying to decide on IO360180, or 200 hp or possibly IO390 215.hp. Interested in seeing how you design/fabricate the plenum too.
I think you could also install a scatt tube in that location to move air to a heat muff and than dump overboard if not needing heat…there would still be air movement down behind the cylinder..
great info... I just bought an RV6 and noticed a crack in the right side baffle, and I noticed the front and rear cylinder baffles are screwed together, (right where its cracked) I'll rectify that asap.
Really nice sheet metal work! Curious if you will have CHT’s off of just that #3 cylinder or off of all 4 and if so if that affects how you set up the baffling??
Hey Stu - Looking at a set of already built but never used -4 wings w Phlogiston spar. Huge favor....have a few questions I know you'll knock outta the park. Best way to PM you? I think I've seen you on VAF but can't find you when I search. Thanks! 😉👍

Great video. Very informative. You are obviously a busy guy, but it would be great if you could show how you design and install the plenum.
I’ll do that at some point yes. I have a new project now and I only use plenum

When you order your empennage kit, use Stu’s builder number as a recommendation..he’ll get a $100 “finders fee”! At no cost to you!
Very interesting and informative video, Stu! So much work to video all this but sincerely appreciated! 😉

It’s the thickness of alum not fact they are screwed together. Lots of guys live with minor cracks but it worth scheduling it for annual time

All 4 for sure. 1 CHT is like monitoring 1 tire pressure in your car
Another useful vidéo. Keep those coming ! I am assuming this all applicable to RV-8, right ?
Yup - any lycoming
Everything you see in this vid is very close to what I did on 8. Plenum will be slightly different maybe

Hi, is it the Vans Baffle kit?
Yes with the mods you see in the video :)
@@stusaircraftfactory6592 thanks, Ithink I ´ll order the baffle kit rather than build it by myself .
@@chantereaudominique8855 oh yeah. Kit is great but still lots work. Would never do it from scratch
@@stusaircraftfactory6592 I did it for my first RV8 , but it was a lot a time .
Baffling? I disagree. I found it quite easy to comprehend.
