Yo, what's up SerpaSquad! I hope you all enjoyed this week's project. A little follow up to last week, but I think I like this one better. Which do you prefer?
Can you imagine being at work, everyone is stressed out and tired and you're under major pressure and then you glance to the side of your desk and your eye catches the gentle drips over the glistening moss...Priceless!
This is more simple. Something I can actually do. I am disabled, so this is still challenging, but I think I'm can get help for the cutting part. The end result is exactly something I love! Can't get enough moss!
@dave right, I think it was just a slip of the tongue which is why I left the comment. If you look up 30 ppi you can see its the same foam. As far as I can tell 300 ppi doesn't commonly exist, but if you can find it you'll see that the holes are too small and numerous for it to work well for growing moss.
I was watching your videos for so long and then 2 months ago I started building Terrariums and now I have 5. Will build a new one tomorrow. And Moss is now my favorite plant. Unfortunately I only have one native species available in my area. Thank you tenner for such an inspiration. God bless you.
I love this build! I almost have everything I need to make my own and am super excited ~ I’d love to see how the original is doing after almost a year!
Thank you so much for this video. I found your channel earlier this year because I had this same concept in my head. Wife and I started collecting moss and have a bin with its own little micro climate keeping the moss alive. I had the same idea for the watering but hadn't figured out mounting the moss. I wasn't really convinced it would attach so well to a vertical porous surface. :)
I was completely shocked to hear that my mom has seen some of your videos too! Also loving the new zoom-in on materials with the name and price labelled.
I live in Arizona but my parents live in New York and have all this amazing moss on their property. I always wanted to take come home but didn’t know how to display it, this is too cool 🤯😍
Thank you so much! This is just what I was trying to build for my desk. You always come up with the best terrarium DIY's. I also like how you break down the cost in your videos it is very helpful. :)
Most of your designs are amazing and way out of my league in terms of supplies, know-how, maintenance etc. But this I could totally see myself doing! It would be awesome if you expanded on this mini-project and did a few other versions using this small container, or other small plastic containers!
Awesome video, sir. I especially, liked how you not only, described the materials, needed for your project but the where and you purchased and price, mentioned. Thank you. 🤗👍👏
Love this video and project! Just a bit of critique, the editing felt a little too fast and disorienting. Its a cool smooth effect! Perhaps it could be toned down slightly. Love your videos tanner! I always look forward to an upload
@@SerpaDesign Just wanted to add a plus 1 to Jojo's critique. Slowing down the transition speed a little bit would still keep the cool effect but make it a little less disorienting. Love the content though! Keep up the great work and have a happy halloween!
I agree. Slowing it down a bit would help. Your videos are normally calming and fun to watch. This was a bit too jerky in the editing so it felt disorienting.
Just built my version, with some modifications and I love it. Can’t wait until my miss fills in the gaps fully. Thanks so much for the great idea and super helpful steps.
@@ErebosGR Yeah, should have at least used wire nuts or butt connectors...and marine heat-shrink tubing so there's no chance of moisture getting in either.
@@byrn i dont know how much marine shrink tubing is but he could have used what he had and put a dab of silicone in heat tubing before shrinking it. would also make a waterproof seal
It's almost moss season (I think)! I'm gonna look for some new types of moss for a new project, something like the moss garden you made a while back, or maybe an open terrarium.
Wow!! I was so happy to hear it's $50- that's definitely within my budget! I'm so excited to try this out myself, it would be beautiful in an office, or any room, really
I love this. I wonder if I could modify this a little to grow carnivorous plants like Venus flytraps or sundews. I know they don't need nutrients in a soil so this may still work. It would be awesome to see if you could do something similar.
I recommend adding a gravity fed water system (like the auto top up water bowl you can buy for a pet). This will ensure an extended duration to your water supply ;)
Thanks to this video, I put together my first Terrarium! Turned out just like the video with a few notable exceptions. 1) I had a hard time getting the moss to stick in the cut slots of foam so I used dabs of superglue gel instead and it's been working well. 2) I installed a lamp switch to the motor cable when I spliced it to put it through the box. This makes it easy to turn off the motor if the humming gets annoying. 3) Fungus gnats also love this moist open air terrarium and now it is literally crawling with gnat larvae. Any suggestions on how to remove and prevent this?
I like this project better than the last for the simplicity, affordability and the easy maintenance. The other project was beautiful but I feel it's just a bit out of my comfort level, I don't think I would attempt it. But this I just might make!
Thank you for the awesome video. I would like to try this and have a question: I've never done any project with moss. how often do i have to change the water? would it be possible to make a drain so the water replacement is easier? and is washing the moss sufficient for preventing pests?
"you have a great mind if it detail and obviously invention." What the flip does this mean? I can't figure out what you were trying to say, it doesn't make sense.
I discovered your channel today, you motivated me to make my own Terrarium, I've been busy for a week thinking about owning one. Tomorrow I will gather materials for one.
You've inspired me to begin trying mossariums and terrariums! Gonna try this one for my brother for Christmas! Thanks Tanner! You're awesome keep up the good work! 🤙
@@bluewolf783 pretty much man, it doesnt have roots to collect nutrients so it can only use the sun and water It also goes dormant at night because when the sun is down it doesnt want to waste as much energy
Moss does need and use nutrients! But in low light, it doesn't need much and many times get enough from just the dust in the air. But you can fertilize the moss from time to time with VERY diluted fertilizer mixed in water.
Please don't use this new effect for every single transition it's very disorientating. It might also be worth making sure the effect matches the transition (i.e. the effect should swing to the right if the camera's angle turns to the right). Other than that, good video, love the idea.
Tanner how long does moss last in your terrariums? Even in my closed terrariums it doesn’t last for more than 3-4 months before it begins to brown and look like it’s dying. I never seem to be able to get it to propagate either. please help 😞
make sure you the moss isnt constantly flooded with light because it can dry it out/burn it, make sure theres a good water supply and a very important thing is good draining!! its also good to spray the lid of the terrarium with water to initiate the water cycle :)
