    Did you say you can use livescope without the black box? I find that hard to believe.

    • @kenhenry439
      @kenhenry439 4 роки тому +1

      Ryan,
      There are 2 different Panoptix LiveScope transducers. The LVS12 (@ RRP $799 which is standalone and can plug directly into the back of the Ultra headunits) and the LVS32 (@ RRP $1,999 the “Panoptix LiveScope System” which comes with the ‘black box’ to sit between the transducer and either the UHD or Ultra headunits).
      The price of the LVS12 looks very inviting, however it has major limitations compared to the LVS32. The beam angle of the LVS12 is only 30x20 degrees compared to the 135x20 degrees of the LVS32, meaning the volume of water and area of bottom structure scanned is less than a quarter of the LVS32. For example, in 3m of water and in LiveScope Down mode you are scanning less than 1m of bottom forward and aft of the transducer. Additionally, the LVS12 does not support the third LiveScope mode - Perspective Mode.
      So although it is possible to plug a LVS12 LiveScope transducer directly into the back of an Ultra, it is only a toy in comparison. For full Livescope functionality you need the LVS32 with the substantial processing power of the ‘black box’.
      When trying to help a mate decide whether the cheaper transducer would meet his needs, I prepared a substantial document with detailed diagrams explaining the differences in the 2 transducers. I discussed these differences with Garmin Support and my assessment was confirmed. I will email the doc to you for your perusal and if you think it is an accurate assessment, I am happy for you to share it with others to help in their decision making process.
      Cheers
      Ken Henry

    Hi, I'm looking at getting a sounder and doing some fishing on a bit of a budget say more entry but possibly to mid level.
    Choice is between two sounders in mind, Garmin Echomap 95sv with 56 transducer, or Garmin 753xsv then buy the 56 transducer separate.
    I know the 753 has 2 inch less screen, but resolution is supposedly better. Is it to a real benefit though?
    Which would you buy out of the two?

      I use Garmin because they are leaders in the field. As far as I’m aware they are a reasonable. Best for use in the estuaries due to the frequency of the transducer. It’s been a long time since I’ve used a Humminbird.

    Hi, how did you record video from the echomap ultra screen?

    • @RyanMoodyFishing
      @RyanMoodyFishing  4 роки тому

      FisherProSpin yeah once we got out there we realised the ultra doesn’t record so to showcase the transducer we plugged the GT54 into another unit we had in the boat. Seems the bit we explain that got left on the cutting room floor. Watching it again now it does mislead so we will amend the video and repost. Thanks heaps for picking that up. Last thing we want to do is mislead people.

    • @kenhenry439
      @kenhenry439 4 роки тому +1

      Hi Ryan.
      Just read your reply and think there may be a simple workaround to record video from a Garmin Ultra. I won’t have the opportunity to test it out for little while but will try as soon as I can and post results.
      In principle, use Garmin’s ActiveCaptain app to mirror the EchoMap’s screen to an iPad/iPhone and then use Apple’s built-in screen recording function. Here’s the Apple Support how-to link. support.apple.com/en-ca/HT207935
      There are then a number of methods to get the recorded video off the iPad if your video-editing software is PC-based. Here are the 3 easiest I am aware of:
      1. Email the video file to your PC;
      2. Transfer the file via DropBox or a similar app; or
      3. Copy the file directly on to a USB/Lightning flash drive. Here’s a product link www.apple.com/au/shop/product/HNTM2ZM/A/sandisk-64gb-ixpand-flash-drive
      I am guessing there maybe a similar option if you are using an Android phone or tablet.
      Cheers Ken

  • @jakelrsaunders

    When you cropped the sidescan footage was it because you were using the gcv20 like at 2:49? To me it appeared as though the footage from the cropped sidescan was noticeably better than the sidescan when you could read gt54UHD. At 7:29 you swapped to the footage and said it was from a calm day with no run but not that it was taken from the gcv20. If this is the case, it's not really a fair review in that the gcv20 is a separate purchase...

    • @RyanMoodyFishing
      @RyanMoodyFishing  4 роки тому

      Jake Saunders thanks for your query mate but we made that video ages ago and can’t recall what we used. I just don’t have time to go digging out the old footage sorry.

    • @jakelrsaunders
      @jakelrsaunders 4 роки тому

      @@RyanMoodyFishing All good, I double checked and the footage from 7:29 onwards is definitely from the gcv20 as 8:20 lines up with the shot from 2:49. I've just gone through the process of getting a sounder and there's a heap marketing material to wade through and decisions to make. When you see misinformation about a product I just want to flag it so people can have realistic expectations and to make it easier for them to make a decision. Not to tarnish Garmin either, tbh i think the Garmin 84XX are probably the best sounder out there right now.

    Hey Ryan, I've just done the Sounder Skills 1 course, but I've noticed there's a few things that have no changed, with the GT56 being released.
    The GT56 doesn't appear to like having the higher scroll speed as opposed to the GT54. Is this due to the maximum CHIRP frequency on the GT56 going down to 1,000kHZ as opposed to 1,200kHZ?

    • @RyanMoodyFishing

      Hi mate, we have also upgraded to the GT56 and find it works the same although there was an update on some of the head units speeding up the scroll speed and I now run my 8412’s on speed # 8 for side scan.
