This forest was largely defended by the late wangari maathai , Kenyas first Nobel prize winner

President Moi wanted to build skyscrapers by clearing that whole forest but it took a bravery of one woman called WANGARI MATHAI for those plans not to be implemented and so the world recognised her efforts by awarding her THE NOBEL PEACE PRIZE

The damage that primitive dictator caused to Kenya really kept Kenya a 100 years behind I'm telling ya. He literally jumpstarted misgovernance & corruption as you witness today..It is quite a shame previously backward countries like Malaysia & Singapore have overtaken Kenya.

I bet you know the story about the lady that won a Nobel Peace Prize for this forest (and other greenery around the city), Wangari Maathai. Our 2nd president, Moi, was a dictator (just like in practically every other country in Africa then, SA just emerging from apartheid). Moi was surrounded by political thugs who wanted to build commercial buildings there, as well as in Uhuru park (one of them was my neighbor, wealthy AF). She protested and despite being beaten and bloodied up, she persisted. Wangari was the 1st black African woman to win the Nobel prize.

Can also check out Kereita forest in Kiambu. They have activities like zip lining, bike riding, archery and paint ball. They also have a restaurant in the middle of the forest. You'll be fascinated.

That was a date with mother nature too.
You'll definitely have to explore Karura Forest once or several more times to cover every interesting nook!
Spanning over 2500acres, Karura is one of the green and natural spaces referred to as the "Lungs of Nairobi".
Others are Uhuru Park, Central Park, Uhuru Gardens, Nairobi Arboretum, Michuki Park, City Park, Jamhuri Park, Ngong Forest and the very wild Nairobi National Park.
All these parks have eventful pasts bordering on sheer greed of developers and other capitalistic interest groups out to turn them into concrete jungles!
Kenyans fought hard breaking limbs and livelihoods to save and conserve them!
The city has grown in expanse and heights but the parks have remained intact thanks to public vigilance.
In the city centre you'll find smaller but convenient Jevanjee Gardens and the non-motorized Aga Khan Walk that stretches from Hilton on City Hall Way to Heile Selassie Avenue. Adjacent to the Walk is the August 7th Memorial Park (Kenya's equivalent to Ground Zero)

For exercise, try to make walking the Karura Forest Trails once per week . Start with the 5km trail before progressing to the 10km and 15km routes as you get fitter. Carry water and watch out for rain from March to May.
    1 mile = 1.6km

Please do a tour of “The Nairobi Arboretum” which is also a very beautiful park and is a walking distance of the City Centre. Not sure whether Uhuru Park & Central Park is opened to the public yet. It’s also a nice park that’s pretty close to the Nairobi Central Business District.

And the Arboretum has the Sykes Monkeys you love. They usually come out late afternoons. Sykes Monkeys are generally gentle and sweet. Avoid the non-sykes ones because some may bite if you approach them. If you want pictures with Sykes on your shoulder, visit City Park in Parklands. Photographer there knows how to get friendly Sykes Monkeys to pose with you. However avoid going off trail at city park. Just Stat in the main area where all the people are. And hold on to your bag. Sykes Monkeys will grab and run off with it if they suspect you are carrying food! But they are lovely Monkeys at City Park

Greetings Residential Tourists, let’s not forget that we don’t have to conform to anyone’s linguistic standards as we can create our own language standards and literature. Kenya is my first choice when considering Africa in Western standards and South Africa next maybe, as I am very concerned about the overall condition of our people under Dutch-British colonial financial hegemony in South Africa. Continue enjoying yourselves there in Kenya and I like forward to visit your new restaurant. Queen, it a good thing, you loving Kenya. Thanks for sharing.

Nairobi has been the UN HQ for entire Africa since 1975. No country in Africa has a huge number of UN Staff than Kenya. It is not new that UNFPA would want to do that. Oxfam's HQ for the entire world was also moved to Nairobi some years back. This is why Nairobi keeps being voted as the best city to live and work in by expats. Many other global businesses have offices in Nairobi. Nothing new to be honest.

Most staff in the UN system prefer Nairobi anyway. After being rotated in New York, Geneva, Vienna and Nairobi they usually fall for Nairobi and eventually push to have regional offices relocated here. Apart from the UNON,UNEP and UN-Habitat headquarters, Nairobi also hosts over 30 UN agencies.

@TimelyInspiration-qp7yi Exactly What I said. The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) is the United Nations HQ for Africa.
