I actually have an RC Car with a 4 tight gear ratio and it sounds just like this. It's a tripple brushless motorized 1/4 RC vehicle thats meant for touring tho I am forced to run 2 6000mAh Lipo batteries but the inside is so cramped and crammed together for how much work I put into it. Occasionally I have to replace the 1st gear since it strips the teeth because if I go full throttle, it eats the 2nd as well but it's a open gearbox with straight cut gears..
I suspect that most of that noise was the gearbox. Many rally cars have straight cut gears in their transmission rather than helical cut as straight cut offer a lot more strength compared. This is offset by the large amount of whining noise that they produce. Not a problem for rally, but for production cars they are too noisey, hence helical cut in a standard cars transmission.
You're in the woods, in a misty morning. walking alone and you hear the scream of an RC car coming behing you. You question yourself, who would that be playing a toy car in the woods? Early nineties Indy Kart Turbo V-8 engines used to fire two cylinders at the same time, making them sound like a big four. Maybe you could do a video on that and other weird firing orders? Thank you for sharing.
I love the growl they have, I know the Chevy 4.3 was the most successful of the GM 90 Degree V6 (GMC Safari Owner here) but after the discontinuation of the S10 platform you only ever saw them in base model Silverados and Sierras and lets face it, when do you ever see a poverty spec full size pickup these days, hell even most fleet pickups end up with the 5.3 Vortec. The new Ecotec 4.3 seems like a decent engine but it will never see much use due to it being relegated to poverty spec trucks and the odd fleet truck, I'd love to see GM take a page out of history and make a modern version of the GMC Cyclone and Typhoon with a Turbo 4.3 but that'll never happen, the closest thing we have now is the reintroduction of the ZR2 package in the Colorado, but that only has a non turbo 3.6 or a 2.8 Duramax. Even if Buick brought back the GNX and the Regal T Type it would probably get one of the 50 flavors of LS (admittedly that would be pretty badass), and would be just another Camaro with a funny badge. 90 degree V6s are bad ass in my books but due to the public perception of them being "derivative", "low tech", and less compact, they were pushed to the side and replaced by turbo I4s and 60 degree V6s
Hey Viso, some American 3800 information here. The 3800 Dominated the first wave of american "Tuner cars" I remember seeing guys at the strip with laptops hooked up in the 90s. There was one locally famous one, that pulled a wheelie so hard one night, it crashed back down an cracked the frame. These cars were the first real wave of modern turbo cars. They tuned, raced, tuned, an always gained time/speed. Those old turbo 3800 guys helped pioneer a daily driving turbo car, build it, drive it, break it, fix it. Eventually it was figured out. The 3.8L V6 engine in the GNX(Grand National) was conservatively rated for 276 horsepower at 4,400 RPM and 360 lb-ft of torque at 3,000 RPM and backed by a prepared Turbo-HydraMatic 2004R transmission. The GNX could launch from 0-60 MPH in under five seconds and run a low 13-second quarter-mile.
When Chevy first developed their 90 degree V6 it was also a 3.8L like Buick's and used a semi even fire crank with an 18 degree offset pin which was a compromise between smoothness and strength. Later this became the 4.3L even fire V6 which was and still is a very popular powerplant.
