    Interestingly, I made a 1930’s-inspired evening gown for me to wear to host my Christmas party last year, and the upper portion of the gown I designed was essentially the same as this Chiton!! The 20’s and 30’s were very interested in “Greek sleeves”, and I’ve made both a 20’s and 30’s dress with them! I didn’t actually use buttons, but I did sew the points of the shoulder seam together with little pearls and it looked DIVINE! Of course, I added a lot more width to the back piece to make it drape down in the dramatic 30’s open-back style, but the construction on that shoulder seam is otherwise the same! Something I did not consider when I decided to make one of these dresses, until watching your video 😂

    my sister brought one of these back from Greece a few years ago. She said it was gorgeously decorated with rope braid and embroidery. She swore by it and said it was so delicately handmade. When she did a clear out a couple of months ago, I got it. It was hilarious to find out that it was polyester, badly machine embroidered, and made in Pakistan!!! Luckily I already had one I'd made using reference pictures and any articles I could find. I wanted some summer lounge wear that suited my very ecclectic style. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!! Dare I ask how old you are? I love this. It makes me want to make another. I might go purple this time.

      @@FantasticalFolliesCostuming she really thought it was just a heavy cotton. The fact that it fell and felt like super heavy jearsy didn't occur to her. She also thinks she's an amazing sewer too, but I've had to unpick things she's made and I can honestly say I'm surprised she knows one end of a needle from another. She definitely got swindled though.
      Ah, that's true. Its not something I ever have to think about. I'm also on the older millennial side. Though I honestly don't think people born in the 80s should be!!

Not only is it really easy to follow for a newbie like me (though I did have to google a couple of terms), but it was also really enjoyable to watch, you're really fun! @@akouzi1 Just wondering, maybe you know, I found a chiton is not sewn at all? It is wrapped around, pinned at the shoulder, belted, and has not seen a needle and thread at all? Am I wrong? Thank you, have a beautiful weekend/day! ❤

    • @akouzi1
      @akouzi1 Місяць тому +1

      @JackyHeijmans there was some sewing involved, but usually with the chiton of a wealthy or high class person. Fabrics of the wealthy were brightly coloured while for all the fabfics used were wool or linen (cotton was discovered by Alexander the Great in India and started to be imported to Greece after that in the late 4th century B.C.). So yes, to answer your question, there was some sewing done on garments, but not in all cases .

      I'm not sure it's worth replying to this, since you're literally dead, but one would argue that your total lack of punctuation and capitalization is even more offensive, given that those subjects are taught in schools from an early age, and the pronunciation of a dead language is not.
