Ironton resident here. As a kid, my pappaw would take me downtown to watch the DT&I switch the yard and come in and out of town. Also seen them countless times coming out of the south end of the tunnel….. great memories!
That is neat Shaun, rail from Carnegie Steel Edgar Thompson Works, which is still in business and known today as US Steel ET Mon Valley Works. Thanks for posting the video, very interesting.
I just stumbled across your videos. I really appreciate and enjoy seeing the DT&I videos. I live in Springfield and have a friend who worked for the railroad for over 40 years.
Ran on to this Christmas Night I lived in Wellston growing up left there in 1961 when Uncle Sam said "I NEED YA BOY" last time back there was 10 yrs ago only thing there to Me is more and more ofLess and Less ! nice seeing what rails are still there.
Im constantly trespassing on CSX property, and so far they've been very cool about it. If I see an employee I will go talk to them and let them know what Im doing. They usually just tell me to be safe/stay off the tracks lol. Im sure they deal with alot of railfans!
10:47 407 was about the first or so painted with the compass logo. I caught it at DeCoursey yard in the freshest paint possible. 1980. It was immaculate. Very south end of the yard not running. Only loco there. A bit odd.
It was rebuilt by Paducah after a wreck. I think you’re correct about it being the first loco to wear it. I believe it was first introduced on the Campbells soup cars.
Shaun . Been going to Wellston since I was three years old. I am eighty one, now. Want to talk about those places. Do you have a website? Joe in Dayton
Do you have any more old photos of the B&O line that went thru Athens? Or the hocking valley. I am so happy to find this, I went to OU and am from a small down on the C&O Columbus sub north of Columbus. I’ll take anything I can get in SE Ohio!
Most of what I have comes from our Facebook groups for those lines! Look up B&O Ohio division and C&Os former HV lines on there. If you’re not part of them already, get ready for a rabbit hole of treasures 😜
@@ModernDTI thanks so much for the reply! I’m planning to head out to zaleski and look for any remnants that are still there! I have a feeling there won’t be too much around moonville due to the trail recently being put in.
Sadly, the DT&I railroad going through Waverly, Ohio, Pike County, went out of service in 1992 not long after my 1st husband and I married and moved there. He grew up in Pike County, Ohio, where his grandparents grew up.
great video and history

Cool video. And remember, its only trespassing if you're caught.

I don’t, other than my Facebook page for the layout. I just enjoy the history of that area…there’s so much that once was!
