- 'I lived for a long time on the same busy square, and I would probably still be living there if the landlord had not thrown me out.' Burgess resided here from 1970 or 1971 (after his return from Malta) until about 1976, when he moved to Monaco (while returning often to Italy, to his cottage at Frying-Pan Place, Bracciano). The two-bedroom flat is at Number 16A, St Cecilia Place, on the third floor. Burgess writes that he 'could look out on the Basilica of the patron saint of music. Working as a writer, I felt myself one with the bad sculptors and fakers of antique furniture'.
