    Hocus Pocus 2 is coming out soon! We've always loved Winifred's grimoire with its moving eyeball, so we decided to make an enchanted book of our own. Our book of shadows was made with a really easy technique using tissue paper and Mod Podge. The evil eye looks around as though it's alive. This DIY Halloween decoration is the perfect addition to any witch costume and would look great as part of your 2022 Halloween display.

      That's a really good idea! I'm gonna have to try that. Might I suggest weathering the pages with coffee or tea to add a more realistic aged look rather than the random paint splotches. The coffee/tea will add the aged look of paper and the moisture should cause the pages to look well used. Don't know if this will actually work, just came to me as I was watching the video just now. You guys do some really neat things, been watching y'all for a while. Keep up the great work!

    I ALWAYS put tissue paper in a gift box, especially with clothing. It's much more elegant than just tossing the gift in there, taping some paper on the outside and calling it done.

    Wow, wow, wow! I attempted a similar idea last year, except with an animatronic eyeball, but I couldn’t get the mechanics to work. This is a great alternative! If you don’t want to use a real book, the cardboard book boxes craft stores work great. I covered mine in damask peel and stick wallpaper, fabric tape for the binding, and gold foil letters from my crafty neighbor’s cricut.

    Really nice job with this. This reminds me of the necronomicon from the Evil Dead series. That book had a moving mouth. You could do that with a small servo and a 3d printed mouth. It could be activated by a pressure switch that activates when you touch it. The same principle could be used to create blinking eyelids for your book of spells.

    That is so cute. I'm such a sucker for books/back to school/office supply stuff and Halloween. This is the perfect blend of all of them.
    I wonder if scientists ever did find out why some paintings have eyes that seem to follow you wherever you go. I bet the idea behind this project could be used that way too with one of the picture frames.

    • @mankysalad350
      @mankysalad350 Рік тому +5

      The eyes will appear to follow you around the room if the subject is looking directly at the artist/viewer because paintings are 2d images. So no matter where you are you'll always see the same image, just a bit narrower if you're off to the side.

      Thank you!!

    • @ThomasSturm
      @ThomasSturm Рік тому +1

      The 2-d thing is likely the case for paintings. But for a more dramatic effect one can do basically the same thing as a following bust. That is paint a concave sphere like an eye and put it behind the eyelid; where the phone is here. The angle and assumptions of depth will create the illusion the eyeball is following you.

      The smallest digital picture frame that I found was 5 inch’s on Amazon I think it will work fine……this is a great idea because my initial idea was to hook up a small display to an Arduino board…which I have absolutely no idea how to do…..I just know it can be done.
      The digital picture frame idea is definitely easier…and smarter…thank you.
      Should I do anything extra to avoid it from overheating?

    You can get hard cover books at the dollar store too. I hope you do something to the inside of that book too, so the pages can be used. Need some blank pages, actual spells, some creepy artwork, plant images, cats, wands, crystals, trees, etc
