Hocus Pocus 2 is coming out soon! We've always loved Winifred's grimoire with its moving eyeball, so we decided to make an enchanted book of our own. Our book of shadows was made with a really easy technique using tissue paper and Mod Podge. The evil eye looks around as though it's alive. This DIY Halloween decoration is the perfect addition to any witch costume and would look great as part of your 2022 Halloween display.

Thanks for watching! All the materials are listed in the video description, including where to get the Animated Eye video so you can make your own DIY Spellbook!
This was amazing! Nice job, guys!
Like the hocus pocus shirt!! I’m subbed btw
I use tissue paper to line wrapped gifts 🎁 and bagged ones sticking out. I thought that was the only way to do it right... now I add fairy lights too! Am I missing something?
Thanks for the video! Love it. I have to make this one! And maybe more... lol!
That's a really good idea! I'm gonna have to try that. Might I suggest weathering the pages with coffee or tea to add a more realistic aged look rather than the random paint splotches. The coffee/tea will add the aged look of paper and the moisture should cause the pages to look well used. Don't know if this will actually work, just came to me as I was watching the video just now. You guys do some really neat things, been watching y'all for a while. Keep up the great work!
This is so awesome you guys! Can't wait to try this out. 💜💀💜
I ALWAYS put tissue paper in a gift box, especially with clothing. It's much more elegant than just tossing the gift in there, taping some paper on the outside and calling it done.
😄😄 touché
I've seen it mostly used in gift bags to kinda fill out the bag and cover the gift.
We know who’s really in charge of wrapping gifts… 😂
@@spicybeantofu this is the way.
I love how the cat is like “Are you guys seeing this !?” Lol
Hahah yeah
Lol
@darkacademia Been a while since I’ve seen someone bring up Spree. Lol
THACKERY!!!!!!!!!!
Noice
Wow, wow, wow! I attempted a similar idea last year, except with an animatronic eyeball, but I couldn’t get the mechanics to work. This is a great alternative! If you don’t want to use a real book, the cardboard book boxes craft stores work great. I covered mine in damask peel and stick wallpaper, fabric tape for the binding, and gold foil letters from my crafty neighbor’s cricut.
Excellent!!
WHAT WAIT, I WAS JUST WATCHING AND PLANNING TO MAKE THE HOCUS POCUS BOOK, YOU ARE READING MY MINDS☠️☠️☠️
Hahah nice!!
You guys! So imaginative and fun. I love the Halloween season and part of what I look forward to is y’all’s new videos (and I revisit the older ones too). Love the spell book!
Thanks!!! 🤘🏼😄
Really nice job with this. This reminds me of the necronomicon from the Evil Dead series. That book had a moving mouth. You could do that with a small servo and a 3d printed mouth. It could be activated by a pressure switch that activates when you touch it. The same principle could be used to create blinking eyelids for your book of spells.
Yesssss. Evil Dead series is Jays fave.
I just love how the "most replayed" part of the video is the doggos :3
I aspire to have your imaginations! This was too cool! And loved seeing your fur-ish babies (don't want to make kitty feel self-conscious)! LOL
Thank you!!! They love being in videos 😄
That is so cute. I'm such a sucker for books/back to school/office supply stuff and Halloween. This is the perfect blend of all of them.
I wonder if scientists ever did find out why some paintings have eyes that seem to follow you wherever you go. I bet the idea behind this project could be used that way too with one of the picture frames.
The eyes will appear to follow you around the room if the subject is looking directly at the artist/viewer because paintings are 2d images. So no matter where you are you'll always see the same image, just a bit narrower if you're off to the side.
Thank you!!
The 2-d thing is likely the case for paintings. But for a more dramatic effect one can do basically the same thing as a following bust. That is paint a concave sphere like an eye and put it behind the eyelid; where the phone is here. The angle and assumptions of depth will create the illusion the eyeball is following you.
Holy cow -- my folks still have that book, I read it a couple of times back in the 1980s! I'm half sorry to see it "rebooted" and half thrilled to see such a cool new prop!
Ahhh interesting thank you!!
Was it a bad book?
@@MeowMeow_95_ THEY MADE A SPELLBOOK OUT OF A BOOK THAT COVERED THE HISTORY OF SCIENCE! I am dying laughing.
For props like this, you can also use a small digital picture frame that supports video playback. I use them in a few of my props and warning signs.
Yes!!!!
Great idea. This project turned out great but I can't exactly leave my phone in the book all the time. The digital picture frame would be perfect.
The smallest digital picture frame that I found was 5 inch’s on Amazon I think it will work fine……this is a great idea because my initial idea was to hook up a small display to an Arduino board…which I have absolutely no idea how to do…..I just know it can be done.
The digital picture frame idea is definitely easier…and smarter…thank you.
Should I do anything extra to avoid it from overheating?
@@benami3071 I use a bunch of them in my Halloween display and have no issues. It gets pretty warm at that time of year in Australia.
Also, for rivets if you want bunches of them, one guy used small googly eyes (but they make nose) but I use brads (those 2 leg paper holders)
Yes!!!!
What a great idea for the moving eyeball. Great job!
Thanks!!
Love this build.......I was introduced to "air dry" clay when my young son used it for a school project a couple of years ago and now it's one of my go to mediums to work with.
I never thought of using a repurpose store for crafts. That is a great idea!
Omg! Using a magnifying glass for the eye is genius!
😄😄😄😄
You'd be amazed at what treasures you can find! And if you're following these two, you must have an imagination!😊
When I couldn't afford wrapping paper, I wrapped dollar store gifts in tissue paper with different colored curly ribbons, t shirts, other small gifts. Later u used all kinds of white, glittered, and colored tussue paper inside boxes and gift bags before wrapping in gift paper
i like when the eye animated in the SpellBook that you made by DIY
Super amazing animatronic
🤘🏼😄
This reminds me of the Hocus Pocus book
Yes!!!
This looks incredible. What fun!
Halloween is my absolute favorite holiday! And you are my absolute favorites when it comes to Halloween decoration to make yourself!
Yesssss
My entire family always uses tissue paper in bags to wrap our presets. Awesome book btw!
I'm going to use a lot of these techniques to design a venetian mask for an Edgar Allen Poe themed event. You guys are so inspiring with your practical crafting tutorials and build-it-as-you-fly transparency. Truely making art approachable at all skill levels.
Such a neat idea and the final product looks so good! Love the spooky projects!
Your creativity is off the charts mind blowing. WOW!
Love your work! Your ideas always turn out so well. Very inspiring. It’s so much more fun to make your own decorations. Can’t wait to see your next creation!
Thank you!!
Your videos are fantastic. They give me all sorts of ideas --not even always Halloween related. You clearly show how to do things in a simple reproducible manner. Thanks a bunch!
Glad to hear!!
Hi Jamie and Jay… each video you put out features something different and original, I’m in awe of your ideas and creativity! This project is very accessible for beginners too… I will admit to not having your skill level, but I definitely feel able to give this one a go. Thank you for another great project (and I love how passionate you are in supporting upscaling and recycling ❤️).
Another awesome project guys! The moving eyeball just makes this so creepy!
Thanks Mike!!
Very creative. Love it!
The air dry clay is PERFECT for horns for makeup. I am a professional fx makeup artist and I've been using air dry clay for years to create horns.
Last year I spent a ton of time on UA-cam looking for something like this but all I could find was people doing full bookbinding. Thank you for making this! Even if it was to late for my project haha
The leaf blower could be used for some sort of flying thing where it blows the hair up to a screaming face and gives it an extra efwct
I have been binge watching your videos and when there was a puppy break I was like "yes, I love them". Wish I had a yard to do any of these!
Man it's probably my favorite one so far... Y'all did a hell of a job
I love the Hocus Pocus book but I love that yours has color to it!
Yes!!! Thanks
This turned out so well! I love it and it would be a perfect project for my daughter and I to make. Thank you!
Yes!!! Let us know how it turns out
This is next level! And I'm super excited about the tissue paper effect because that stuff is super inexpensive and accessible and I could easily do something like that! I'm so excited to try it out!
Thank you!! 😄😄😄
Freaking awesome....I'm dressing as one of the Sanderson sisters and was looking for a book with the eye but thanks to you I know what to do now.....thank you🖤🖤🖤
Perfect!!!!
You two are giving me and ideal to do something like that out of leather right now.
OMG THAT LOOKS SO COOL!
IM TOTALLY DOING THIS TOMORROW!
I have some old books from when I was in High school and this would look really good with my potion bottles that I bought on Dollar Tree last year!
Perfect!!!
I love this book, I've got a few of them I've found tutorials on to make this month for Halloween! I jus love Halloween 🎃 👻
That eye!!! Perfect!
Thank you, I made the spell book. It was really easy to do and great project. I didn’t have all the thinking you had but came out awesome.
Great video. It’s Amazing what you guys can create out of ordinary things.
😄😄😄
Amazing work! Looks so realistic! 😱
AHHHH! I love this~ this is gonna be a must try for the upcoming season!!
Yesssss
I was at goodwill today looking for a book to try this with and I saw a hardcover book called "Damage" and I'm thinking to myself "if that isn't a sign for me to cut apart that book, then I don't know what is" 😆
Haha perfect!!
This is incredible! I will definitely be attempting this 🎃
Yes!!

I love this! You guys have the best projects
Thank you 😄😄😄
This was a genius idea and it turned out soooo good!!! I love this! You both always amaze me! ♥️
Thank you!!!
What a nice Goodwill store you guys have, I'm jealous. The spell book turned out fantastic, the imagination on you two, impressive. My mom started a Christmas tradition of wrapping my sister's Christmas gifts from Santa in red and mine in green TISSUE PAPER. Sometimes there would be 6-7 layers of paper so we couldn't see through, good old mom. So of course we did the same with our kids, and now they are doing the same with their kids, same colors.
Hah! Okay I concede 😄😄😄
just W-O-W! you two ROCK!!! Thank you!!!!
Oh, i forgot to say, what freaking wicked eyedea for the eye animarion and book! Love it, so inspiring!!!
Thanks!!
We did something like this with a dog box. We used watered down pva and yarn.
Nice!!!
This project looks amazing and is that a new Hocus Pocus t shirt?! I love it 🥰
Awesome 😎
This was so cool to watch. Very distracting while I'm working on my witch.... Love watching you guys, love having y'all in the background while I'm creating Halloween stuff and of course love you guys. This book was awesome. It's going on my list.
Thank you!!
Love the book makeover! What about attaching a photo of an eye in the opening that you can fold down out of the way when the phone is installed and fold up when there is no phone? Just a thought. 🤔👁️
That is so smart! Yes
that looks so cool I really like the coloring and That eye looks so cool
How am I just now discovering your channel? Love your creativity and talent!
Omg that’s wicked cool
You two are awesome! Never stop creating
😄😄😄😄😄
2:00 I have that exact cup in my kitchen

Amazing. Honestly looks like something you would see the Sanderson Sister's carrying around.
Thanks!! 😄

This is perfect for my cryptid journal!
You can get hard cover books at the dollar store too. I hope you do something to the inside of that book too, so the pages can be used. Need some blank pages, actual spells, some creepy artwork, plant images, cats, wands, crystals, trees, etc
"Eye" see what you did there 😉
Hahah
the goodwill segments are my favorite part!! ^^
