Where I live, people think red lights and stop signs are only suggestions. I creep forward and look both ways at green lights and stop signs. "Right of way" doesn't mean much to those who think they have the right to disregard traffic laws.

I was setting at a red light waiting for the light to turn green to go though it and it turned green and the other traffic had the red light and a pickup truck behind the red light started to come at me after i was in the middle of the damn intersection still under a green light moving and cut me off i had to lay on the breaks and blew the horn on my car to alert the dumb fuck i was there about to pass in front of them in the road they didn't give a rats ass that i had the green light and pulled out in front of me i glanced over to my left to see if their light was still red and it was and i still had a green light and i was going 45 mph though the intersection so when i laid on my breaks and horn i had just avoided being hit by that pickup cutting me off .. i would of been T boned by a chevy pickup truck . driving my 1993 Ford Taurus GL. i always say if i get in a crash it won't be my fault it will be someone else's fault for me ending up in a car crash

California law does require anyone over 70 to renew their license in person and they must pass a written and vision test. They must do this every five years. Also, California law allows for special restrictions on drivers over 70 that could prohibit free way driving or driving at night to name a few. Still, just like young people how have suspended or revoked licenses that still drive, elderly people still may drive without their license or ignore restrictions, etc. I know a woman in her 80's who still drives and is perfectly capable--mentally and physically--to do so. States do the best they can but they can't just revoke privileges based solely on age.

I took my mom's key and her car away from her after one day I had 3 phone calls saying "Omg, I saw your mom out driving today and she almost backed into a car" and another 2 similar to that. THREE CALLS. I bought her the car anyways so I could take it back lol . I may have saved her life and someone else's by taking her keys & car. She's 83 now and has dementia. She saids all the time that she'd like to buy a car so she can drive or maybe get a job. God love her. Lol she can hardly walk 15 steps to the bathroom without help.
As family, we some times need to be the bad guys and force our elderly loved ones to not drive!

You should listen to the young man at 6:00. He stated the black car sped up to make the light and hit the other car, not the other way around. From what I've seen with senior drivers is they drive way too slow, not usually the other way around. The 30 YO may have very well caused the death of the 91 YO.

Steven Schempp I agree TOTALLY Steven. The description gives the FACTS and not assumptions. Thus further investigation into the capabilities of a 91 year olds ability to be driving safely. Which then leads to the need to a complete (road rules test & physical driving test) retesting of drivers from a certain age continuing at prescribed intervals as age increases. Witness's comments need investigating as well for contributing factors example - the witness who claimed to have witness the whole accident stated (who stated he was 1/4 mile. away )"black car sped up to make the light" which is a common action.

I can't say this was age related because i see A LOT of younger people running red lights and stops signs like you have options when you approach them. One man narrowly missed me running the like and not paying attention. After watching this channel, I don't even see the roads the same. When i see cars speeding, an image pops in my head from this show. You can be a person driving right, obeying all signs, and STILL end up injured or dead due to someone else's' carelessness. SMH

I know everything y’all are saying is true. But what about the elderly that have no means of going anywhere? To doctor appt, grocery store, drugstore for meds, and all other necessities . It’s easy to blame the elderly, but most of you are not in their shoes yet. It’s their last shred of independence. It would be nice if people would offer the elderly transportation, but how many times does that happen? With no relatives or people to help them they are completely on their own. It’s so sad, but try “walking” a mile in their shoes before your so quick to judge.

Fortunately I can still drive very well.....drive a dirt track late model racer and still winning at the ripe old age of 71, but not all 71 year olds can say that. Independance is the key word here and I have seen many older people go that. My in-laws went through that just 4 years ago. Thank you for your clear way of explaining it to everyone so they will know. God bless you sweet lady.........Jim

Nancy Dugan with respect....at a certain age, our reflexes aren’t up to driving. There are other means to travel that doesn’t involve putting others at risk. Look at this......his confusion caused this. My grandad got to the point that we took his keys and car away. He knew it was the right thing to do to save, not just him, but innocent people who are capable. It’s about responsibility, and knowing when to stop. There are no excuses I’m afraid.

I had my Dad's doctor contact the DMV when I became concerned about his driving at the age of 77. He didn't pass the test when the DMV called him in and they revoked his license. I never sold his car until after he passed away several years later. It was only two years old when he lost his license and it was paid for. He maintained it, insured it, had fuel put in it etc and had the means to do so. Anytime my sister or I would go to his house to take him shopping or to a doctor appointment it was always "Let's take my car" so we drove it with him in it. He still had the mindset that someday he would be allowed to drive but in the meantime he still had "his car". . Until he died we always took Dad in his car. It made him feel better that he still owned one.

This is just horrible and so so so so sad. May she rest in peace and my thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends. Your right 91 is to old to be still driving. My grandma is in her early 80's and still driving and sometimes she scares me so I don't think it will be long before she has her right to drive taken by my mom and uncle's . I know it won't be easy to do and she will fuss. She still thinks she can do everything herself And won't listen to anyone so she is in the early stages of memory loss I believe. Which is pretty heartbreaking to all of her family. She hasn't been the same since my granddaddy died in 2007. It really affected her hard. I live with her so at least she don't have to live alone. And our family is pretty good about coming and seeing her and calling to check on her. Well only certain family members actually. Idk what I'm going to do when her time comes. I've lived with my grandparents off and on pretty much my whole they pretty much raised me. So if you have still have your grandparents around take time to be with them. And tell them you love them cause you never know when they are going to be gone. And God bless all of the cops and firefighters that have to deal with death day in and day out. They sure are brave.

Agreed, all cars have been getting safer gradually. This body style camry 2006 thru 2012 was not as safe obviously as say a new one, that's not to say this would not have happened in a Volvo, there are just so many variables in a crash such as this. The first Tesla fatality several years ago was stolen and split in half downtown LA after hitting a pole at a high rate of speed.

Someone who cared about her should have grown a set and taken it and sold her car. My sisters and I did that with my parents when they turned 80. No arguments. It was time. Don't forget he said "from my understanding", alluding to the fact that he might not have been correct. I assume the person whom uploaded this video would be more likely to check an official police report, and thus have the most accurate information. The fact that the black car t boned the silver made it seem like the black car ran the red based on the impacts, when its also very likely that could have happened had the silver ran the red. Also, the silver car had the 91 year old in it and I only assume she would be more likely to run a red than a 30 year old with an Acura

    • @JB-wg8id
      @JB-wg8id 5 років тому

Based on that, the guy was probably just still in shock and just slightly messed up the facts, nothing wrong, its human nature, and you're right, the impacts did make it seem that way, so confirmation bias is also at play

A common problem that some seniors seem to have is mistake the gas pedal for the brakes, I think this may have been what happened because the 91 year old woman had to have been traveling at a high rate of speed for that kind of damage. This happened to my 89 year old mother in law twice, causing minor damage and it was reported to the dmv who then gave her a behind the wheel test and she failed miserably. She refused to take class room and behind the wheel refresher lessons so DMV took away her license.

I have seen a 1963 Impala cut in half when the young man was doing 60 on a 35 mph street , lost control on wet road spun and hit a pole side ways - - the motor, windshield, firewall and the front part of the frame along with the front tires were in one spot and the drivers's seat back was in another and they were looking for body parts in the woods because he was ejected and flew into the trees which dismembered him. Now that was a full frame solid metal 1963 car not one like today's that's half plastic and old beer cans

What a place to have an accident, near a church and an auto parts store. I had an accident similar to this some years ago, yes the lady was 91 and her name was Ms Kennedy , she told the cops that she felt that she did not have to stop for a stop sign, I just looked at her in disbelief. Just thank god Ms Kennedy did not kill me or herself, but she totaled my car.

Why didnt they talk to someone in auto zone or a cop or one of the other 300 businesses there if they saw what happened? Get a better story than the guy 1/2 mile away who saw nothing knows nothing just heard a bang and saw mangled cars and police there when he got there. Guess what? So did i see the same shit. I really feel once a person gets up in age a road test should be required not just a written test. It doesn’t help that people don’t drive like they should I drive the speed limit and people fly by me all time guess that’s why I have never had a speeding ticket in my entire life.

What is lost in much of the conversation below is the fact that when you revoke someones license they have no way to get to where they need to go legally. In the city there is, to some degree public transportation. But in rural America you have no way to go to the store, the doctor, or visit friends. Thanks to a concerted effort to get rid on trains and mass transportation a license and car are the only to get around.
