    Is that her mum being comforted? R.I.P, way too young to be taken and so senselessly. Also the police officer comforting those two women - what an absolute hero. We need more officers like him showing such compassion.

      Margie F Okay, Margie. You clearly don’t understand the mental trauma of having to comfort a grieving parent who’s dead child is lying nearby. The cop would be in shock too, having seen the body of that child he still is able to sit down on the families level and console them while other cops might not have. The term “hero” isn’t limited to people saving others lives. He is displaying a great deal of compassion and care. He is a hero.

    He must have been driving awfully fast to jump the curb like that, hit her, hit a tree, and then crash into the side of a building. Sometimes teen drivers don't know that power of the vehicle they're driving and lose control easily. They have to slow it down. Driving is a great responsibility and you can change your live and that of another in an instant.

    • @fee1776
      @fee1776 6 років тому +8

      When I grew up cars did not have rack and pinion steering and the less sound proofed. Advantage is you can hear your engine roar louder and car tilt if you went around a curve too fast. Modern cars are too smooth and sound insulated. Kids with low experience in driving may not be aware of the speed till it is too late and lose control.

    • @rolfen
      @rolfen 5 років тому +9

      Once I was driving fast (for no good reason) on a mountain road and I drove over a salamander or some kind of awesome big lizard. I saw it at the last second, it was crossing the road and tried to get away, and my tire passed right on it's head, and split it open. I stopped to check on it. It was still warm and twitched when I touched it, but I doubt it would survive. I could see it's skull cracked and a clear liquid coming out. I carried it to the side of the road, put it in the shade, and felt quite bad and stupid for the rest of the day.

Real sad someone has to loose their life in such a horrific manner and if this isn't tragic enough, for the entire event to unfold before the eyes of friends and family innocently walking and now have to be haunted by this horror! Thankfully one officer has the pureness of heart to console and impart some measure of solace to the family in grief.

    The age for driving should be raised to 18 for permit. NOT 16. I also believe it should be mandatory nation wide that every single person about to get their license MUST partake in a viewing at a morgue! Perhaps this would reduce the number of accidents. Alot of police Dept place a wrecked vehicle in view for everyone to see with a sign that says don't drink and drive or no text and drive. I think it would hit people more if they were mandated to view a dead body from an accident. I know it sounds a bit much but we need to try it. Everything we do now is NOT working. The classes, the lectures, the training, not enough. Make everyone view the real result of death!

My point is we can't just focus on kids for driving poorly, but the problem is the state makes more money writing citations than if they were to just be more strict with licensing.

      They do a pretty good job teaching driving in Michigan. You have to attend 24 hours of class (2 hours, 3 times a week) and you have to have 6 hours of driving time with your instructor to get your permit. And you have to pass the written test. After you get your permit you have to drive with someone 21+ and get 50 hours of time. 40 hours of day time and 10 hours at night. After you get that time you have to take segment 2 which is 3 classes. Then you have to pass another written test and a strenuous road test. It’s a lot lol. And it’s about $400 to take all the classes so that’s fun.

      That is far too much car for a CHILD to handle and having ZERO real world driving experience means they need to be in a safe, inexpensive but comfortable, gas friendly, non- high performance vehicle that does NOT go zero to sixty in less than 10 seconds and that DOESN'T handle like a race car allowing tight fast turns and such. You are responsible for the safety of not only your children but everyone exposed to your children and when you give them a luxury car designed to go fast and handle like a race car you are not the brightest lightbulb in the pack. You are asking for trouble. There are cars out there that have special keys that you can program when they are used by the teen the radio won't turn up past a specific level, the car won't start unless seat belts are on, the top speed can be set at 45,55, or 65 mph, the traction control can't be turned off, etc. If teen parents aren't buying their kids THESE cars and putting monitors on them and taking RESPONSIBILITY for how their kid CAN drive then shame on them. The technology is out there to help them drive safer folks... use it so less people die. Ford has a line of cars (such as the fusion I drive) that come with "mykey" keys that are 100% programmable to all of the parameters I stated earlier and both of my children have used them thru their beginning driving years and had ZERO accidents compared to their friends who wrecked every freaking month it seemed. I also didn't let them ride with any other teens. I want my kids to survive to adulthood and it's my responsibility to see that they do. They can drive fast cars during any of the 60 plus years they will be on their own..I only have a say so for the first 18 and plan to make those as safe as I possibly can and that doesn't include buying them a high performance car some grown ups can't handle.

      In BC Canada we can take our learners test on a computer (no actual driving yet) at 16. Then we have to drive with an adult for 2 years before we can take our Novice driving test, which is the actual road test. If we pass which most people fail the first time, usually we wont be able to drive by ourselves till were nearly 18. Then you have to take your final test for your class 5 license which is where you can drive more than one person. With your learners and your novice you have to follow a lot of restrictions still.

I didn’t get my license until I was 18 though so I bypassed all of that but I just don’t think anyone under the age of 18 should be driving. Nothing against anyone, just a personal opinion. At that age, I think it’s more about the coolness of having a license and less about what it takes to be safe with a license and be a responsible driver

    And the case outcome from SD Union Tribune. SMH and WTF?!:
    "The car - traveling at more than 80 mph - jumped the curb and slammed into her."
    "On Wednesday, the classmate was sentenced to up to 85 days in Juvenile Hall, time the judge said the teen should spend “contemplating the pain you have caused Lauren’s family.”
    "And after he gets out of custody, the boy will have to speak publicly to teens at six North County high schools - Mission Hills among them - to share his cautionary story, Superior Court Judge Browder Willis said."
    'Up to' 85 days?! '...share his cautionary story?' That's 3 months for running an innocent girl over on the sidewalk in the middle of the day due to reckless driving. If he was an adult he'd be doing 10 years in prison. Wonder what college his parents paid for him to go to today and what frat he joined? That judge should be fired.

    It's all fun and games till you hit and kill somebody. Live with that for the rest of your life son. Teen drivers, especially male teen drivers tend to be very bad at driving while believing they're very good. It takes EXPERIENCE, years of it to become a GOOD driver. And good drivers don't drive beyond their abilities. Teen boys do it every time they get behind the wheel. If it sounds like I'm coming down on teens realize this. I WAS exactly what I'm talking about here. And only good luck or the grace of God kept me from killing someone or being killed. The only way teens get the experience to become good drivers is to DRIVE. And try as we might we can't convince most of them they are NOT yet good drivers. Tragedies like this will continue to happen, with heartbroken families and young drivers consumed with guilt. People a lot smarter than I have been trying for decades to figure out how to make teens realize their limitations. To my knowledge no one has yet arrived at an answer. I wish someone would. Teens are people. And people are fallible. That will always remain so.

    This was horrifying. I just don’t know how this mother could survive this. God bless her.
    I did not expect to see this young girls body. I don’t know how I feel about it. On one hand I realized I was staring at her lifeless arm and I felt my stomach drop and my eyes filled with tears and blurred everything I was seeing. I felt sick for the reality of the body under the yellow sheet. That that body is the body of a beautiful young girl who only hours before was living a life of dance practice and homework and friends and family and a bright and exciting future to go out and live. And now.....now there’s nothing but an arm resting uncovered in the dirt next to a building and a smashed up car.
    Its just too much.
    But we might need that kind of harsh reality to teach all of us what the truth looks like. Its more than an unfamiliar headline in the news that fades away seconds later. Its more than a moments pause. Its the weeping sister and silent mother who’s shock will slowly melt away and who’s pain will come to rip her apart every moment of every day. It will never let her go. Not completely.
    Maybe we should all see that yellow tarp and the still arm almost resting out from under it. Maybe that’s a memory that would impact us enough to remember the reality of our choices the next time we have the chance to not make them.

    I am so sorry for the young lady's family. That sheriff deserves praise. What a good man. The loss of that young woman is heartbreaking. May the young man who killed her never forget what his decision caused. May she never be forgotten.

    To me, the fact that the driver was never charged with anything at all, even though he was breaking the law, driving recklessly and speeding which caused an innocent child to lose her life, and he also didn't even lose his license for a single day, is DISGUSTING

      @@scottbock9197 that is disgusting and that judge is pathetic. 85 days is a slap in the face to that girls family. Money talks I guess

    Living in San Marcos and going to CSUSM I remember just how fast, awful, and rude people would drive in that road. And yet it continues, my respects to all.

    I'm sorry for the loss of the family of the victim. I know this was filmed a year ago, but that's heartbreaking to lose a high school kid. The parents must be beyond devastated. This sucks. RIP young lady.
