My family have been Royal Marines since about 1880. My great grandfather fought in the Opium Wars: my grandfather in WW1 and we have a son currently serving in 40 Commando. Over 140 years of proud service to the Corps. But, on this day, my thoughts are with my father. He was in 47 Commando and landed on Gold Beach on DDay. He saw many friends injured and killed; in fact, he was shot the very next day and had to be shipped home. It was due to the selflessness and the bravery of thousands like him that Overlord became a success. In the cynical world we now live in, the sacrifice of so many cannot be allowed to be forgotten. Their legacy carries on. The Corps has fought in many campaigns since then. Those have taken their toll, physically and mentally, on Marines. Please help, as I do, support the Royal Marines Charity who care for those Marines in desperate need. It’s a great way to help the toughest, best trained Corps in the World.
Wow! What a fantastic Heritage! I would enjoy a pint with you guys in the pub, must have some incredible stories. Mine have been at sea for hundreds of years , every generation including myself.

My great grandad was a marine in 41 commando and landed on Sword beach on D-Day. He survived the war and died in 2008. His Name was Aubrey E Rolfe and if it wasn’t for him I wouldn’t be here. These men were a different bread and hard as nails. Thank you to all the marines who served and continue to serve our country. God bless.
nothing against these brave hardy blokes; but how are we giving our country away on a platter on the streets while protecting ourselves against foreign aggressors?
I heard the British Paratroopers who took part in the D Day memorial were asked for their Passports on French soil. Did they do this to the Marines too?
Of the many lost men on D-Day, and the days following, King Solomon said as a wise old man: “I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.” There were many stories of miraculous deliverance among them. Only "in the judgment" will "the saints" come to understand the rules of engagement between Christ and Satan that allowed GOD to intervene for some of those men as He did for Desmond Doss.

What would you give the commandos as their brief? Sink the boats? Try and tow them back. Good luck with that. An unachievable objective is just that the politicians gave them in Afghanistan
That would be the biggest waste of highly capable resources ever. What the UK needs is a capable and credible boarder force with associates logistics and law to back it up.
@@Barrybud2816 and what would the brief be to this new credible force? Turn the boats back (and what if they don’t?); sink the boats? Fight the French to get them to accept the boats back?

The Corps are working to make themselves both the best in the world at littoral conflict but also flexible to deal with civil emergencies. Pay the boot necks more and we might not get so many leaving the Corps - costing the Corps a fortune to train recruits. Our cleaner earns more than our son.
How does one contemplate having a Nazi Leader at the D-Day commemoration this year. As a Former Royal Marine, a third generation Royal Marine, from a Family of continuous Service from 1912 until 2010, from a Grandfather, two Uncles, my Father to my own 25 year Career, retiring at E-8 rank (operational in every rank, most at least twice) I know that my Father, Uncles & Grandfather are turning in their graves today.
These guys are wading ashore, however further up the French coast, the enemies 5th columns are being escorted by the so called border force and rnli to the Kent coast safe and dry...........with no questions asked? What would the veterans being honoured make of that insane decision?
The British Army is the best trained in the world without question. Their equipment is not the best and the size of the force is laughable. The members of the British armed forces deserve better.
Because they're Commandos not politicians They don't get to write policies, they follow orders whether they agree with them or not It's called 'duty' of which most people these days have no comprehension

Skull and Cross bones at 1 min 25 seconds - deliberately placed front and centre. Even if someone could make an argument for a British military unit having a skull and cross bones as their unit motto, there is absolutely no need to put it on an Ad, on D Day commemorations. Shame on whoever thought this was a good idea. The message is 'Lest we Forget'. I think it is fair to say that this ex-commando is a little bit pissed off today. And in the going down of the sun and in the morning - we will remember them.

В Курской битве с июля по август 1943 года, к примеру, участвовали более миллиона военнослужащих Красной армии, потери исчислялись сотнями тысяч. Господа вы ЛИЦЕМЕРЫ....

I totally agree. We are the pawns on the board, and probably never know the actual reasoning behind the decision to go to war, if there is any.

Every foreigner had to do this. The troops who had not been prescreened were screened.

Can’t believe there is a discussion in Britain about disbanding the RMs! Unthinkable
Can understand it. The shores of the UK are wide open to continued invasion. If there is no will to stop the boats. Then why do you need ANY military?
