I'm not currently in the military, but I find this stuff fascinating!
I'm not surprised other nations' military units are coming to the RM for advice, but the fact it's SF units got me impressed.
Best wishes go out to the RM, I hope 2022 will be a safe one!
Last line didn't age well
@@ffredalotwhy?
@@dcrcgrah 2022 was not a safe year for Europe
I served the Republic Of Korea Marine Corps between the years 2017 and 2019 because of Korea.
I haven't seen Royal Marines and did't joint exercise with them. But I respect RM Commando.
Thank you. 🤝🙏
Scotland 🏴!
Oh I didn’t know my comment got this many likes I have never got this many thanks!
Mountain training was always emotional but coming back down with a bergan on your back weighing as much as you was the truly painful bit. My knees now at age 60 are reminding me daily what RM training will do to you. 😉
I know exactly how they're at !
Me too at 60 ......
Naithin rang wi my knees . I was RMC in the 60s in Scotland . In the year 2013 I walked to Compostela from Saint Jean , 850 kilometers in 5 weeks aged 70 years , every inch of the way and with full pack.
Train hard , fight easy.
now just to wait for 'combat arms channel' to do his reaction to it..
Go gett’em boys 🇬🇧👍
Good job !!!
I did this. Worst experience of my adult life. Honestly.
Why was it the worst one?
Probably because you served in the 80s where the kits was aids and you barley done anything

I can't speak for anyone but myself but us Brits are always looking for somewhere warm to go.
This course is cold to the bone.
@@Fighting_Fatigue_117 I'm British and ok
😢
That climbing and abseil practice looked like it took place in Polldubh, Glen Nevis. 🤔
Is this course only for royal marines or is it open to army commandos servings in 3 commando brigade?
It's not really a course, more of a punishment!
Anyone prefer the new flashes over the old ones?
I like both. The previous ones are classic to me but these new ones I like that they call back to their commando roots.
Not the most camouflaged but I prefer the new
The new flashes stick out like a sore thumb, I much prefer the old style.
If you gentleman are discussing the camo, it's a shame the military didn't choose the greener version of the multi cam instead, but I hope they had their reasons upstairs.
@@Fighting_Fatigue_117 No, they are referring to the flashes worn at the top of the arm that say 'Royal Marines'. The old ones were green and blended in nicely with the camo pattern. The new ones are red lettering on a black background, similar to those worn by Commandos in the Second World War.
The camouflage worn by the British military currently was developed as a result of the experiences of troops in Afghanistan. The old fawn and brown camo worked well in the desert and mountains, but was not so good in the green farming areas along river valleys. So a new version was developed by British defence scientists that was effective in all areas. It works surprisingly well. They showed a soldier wearing the new camouflage clothing and with blackened face and hands lying motionless on the ground, he was close to invisible. If I was an enemy soldier I would have been dead before I spotted him! The Royal Marines are getting a different camouflage for their clothing and kit, similar I believe to that worn by American special forces.

holy shit boys........still making your own harnesses out of old rope.
a man at the bottom of a ravine is hardly an asset to you, now, is he?
Makes me laugh, the Corps nowadays for some reason has Bear Grylls as their honorary Captain General even though he was only ever a pongo TA member for a wet weekend. He clearly states on one of his amusing TV shows, when navigationally challenged on a mountain in thick fog, find a stream and follow it down the mountain...The first basic rule I was taught NOT to do on a clagged in mountain , because streams on the hill often lead to cliff faces and sheer drops of possibly hundreds of feet!
BG is not the Honorary Captain General.
The post is vacant.
The locals also give the same advice (as you know). It's nothing more than a bench mark in a desperate situation. It would be better to follow the stream and see the approaching edge than walk aimlessly and have no point of recall, no?
My cousins husband was an ML back in the seventies. A more quiet and reserved guy, you could not wish to meet, but as hard as nails when it came down to it. Sadly, he is no longer with us.
He’s resting in peace now 💚
I love and respect British Royal Marines so much.😊😇🥰🙏💙✝☦
I always found the Mountain Training harder than the actual deployment to Norway
Good, lol.
train hard fight easier i guess?
It’s supposed to make you more robust for Norway.
@@gay_commando1611 it most certainly does that Royal .. remember doing Crib Goch in snowdon carrying the 320 radio hanging on for dear life hahaha

Great respect for 🏴 🕊️ Great respect for commando mission 🇬🇧
Well it's nice to see at least Britain is preparing for what's to come. Now if only Kanada would get its head out of the sand before it's too late.
Canada has been giving China artic warfare training so not sure what your point is.
@@MasonBryant If that is so, will Canada stand with us or against us as Justin doesn’t want to upset his Chinese friends?
@@MasonBryant point is that Canada has zero Arctic capability, no ships or infrastructure and definitely no funding. That's the point.
What...........you reckon war with China is on the cards??? Will need more than the numbers of current serving if that is the case. I doubt that's gonna happen.
Great video

What’s the difference between the Royal Marines and the British army

Not to ask who is better, but would this be similar to the training of the US 10th Mountain Division?
Not really. The 10th Mountain Division is a huge organisation and also incorporates artillery, aviation and cavalry regiments. Their mountain warfare capability was deactivated after WWII and the only fully capable unit specialised in mountain warfare in the US would be currently the 86th Infantry Brigade Combat Team. However, there is the Army Mountain Warfare School, where individual soldiers and regiments can train there in mountain warfare. In terms of comparison: the 86th is a whole brigade specialised in that area, that's nearly 5000 soldiers - nearly as much as the whole RM Corps. The Mountain Training Leader Cadre is a very specialised course within the Royal Marines. That's how I understood it, someone correct me if I'm wrong
@@user-ir7os6wh1w Thanks for the explanation. Sorry if I come across ignorant on this stuff.
@@sfoeric Nothing ignorant about your question, don't worry.
Both are fine, respectable organizations.
@@user-ir7os6wh1w
I do not believe that is mountain cadre training and is general mountain and harsh weather training for the Commandos.
Mountain leader course is much tougher than the training in that video and is a specialist leadership course.
