    I'm not currently in the military, but I find this stuff fascinating!
    I'm not surprised other nations' military units are coming to the RM for advice, but the fact it's SF units got me impressed.
    Best wishes go out to the RM, I hope 2022 will be a safe one!

    I served the Republic Of Korea Marine Corps between the years 2017 and 2019 because of Korea.
    I haven't seen Royal Marines and did't joint exercise with them. But I respect RM Commando.
    Thank you. 🤝🙏

    Mountain training was always emotional but coming back down with a bergan on your back weighing as much as you was the truly painful bit. My knees now at age 60 are reminding me daily what RM training will do to you. 😉

      If you gentleman are discussing the camo, it's a shame the military didn't choose the greener version of the multi cam instead, but I hope they had their reasons upstairs.

    • @stevebarlow3154
      @stevebarlow3154 2 роки тому +4

      @@Fighting_Fatigue_117 No, they are referring to the flashes worn at the top of the arm that say 'Royal Marines'. The old ones were green and blended in nicely with the camo pattern. The new ones are red lettering on a black background, similar to those worn by Commandos in the Second World War.
      The camouflage worn by the British military currently was developed as a result of the experiences of troops in Afghanistan. The old fawn and brown camo worked well in the desert and mountains, but was not so good in the green farming areas along river valleys. So a new version was developed by British defence scientists that was effective in all areas. It works surprisingly well. They showed a soldier wearing the new camouflage clothing and with blackened face and hands lying motionless on the ground, he was close to invisible. If I was an enemy soldier I would have been dead before I spotted him! The Royal Marines are getting a different camouflage for their clothing and kit, similar I believe to that worn by American special forces.

    Makes me laugh, the Corps nowadays for some reason has Bear Grylls as their honorary Captain General even though he was only ever a pongo TA member for a wet weekend. He clearly states on one of his amusing TV shows, when navigationally challenged on a mountain in thick fog, find a stream and follow it down the mountain...The first basic rule I was taught NOT to do on a clagged in mountain , because streams on the hill often lead to cliff faces and sheer drops of possibly hundreds of feet!

      The locals also give the same advice (as you know). It's nothing more than a bench mark in a desperate situation. It would be better to follow the stream and see the approaching edge than walk aimlessly and have no point of recall, no?

    • @user-ir7os6wh1w
      @user-ir7os6wh1w 2 роки тому +20

      Not really. The 10th Mountain Division is a huge organisation and also incorporates artillery, aviation and cavalry regiments. Their mountain warfare capability was deactivated after WWII and the only fully capable unit specialised in mountain warfare in the US would be currently the 86th Infantry Brigade Combat Team. However, there is the Army Mountain Warfare School, where individual soldiers and regiments can train there in mountain warfare. In terms of comparison: the 86th is a whole brigade specialised in that area, that's nearly 5000 soldiers - nearly as much as the whole RM Corps. The Mountain Training Leader Cadre is a very specialised course within the Royal Marines. That's how I understood it, someone correct me if I'm wrong
