RUSH is THE PERFECT EXAMPLE of the fluidity of MASTERING TIME SIGNATURES! I play drums and there are a few things that you need to know about Neil Peart’s ( pronounced PEER-T) character: First he writes the lyrics so he knows in advance what TYPE of song it’s meant to be ie ballad, driver, etc. Second he COMPOSES on the drums… like a carpenter who looks at a set of blueprints before building the object. Neil lays out a SKETCH in his mind of the VOICES of the drumset and builds the song from there. He is also a great LISTENER knowing when NOT to step over Geddy’s singing or Alex’s solos! Finally, he had perfect timing and fluidity of time changes. He said himself that it’s not about COUNTING the time signatures as much as fluid motion to change the tempo without counting: in other words it should FLOW! He hates repeating the same drum patterns in the same song meaning if he plays a fill one way the first time around he will play it differently the second time around. IE. Rolls down the toms the first time around and triplets or quads (all four limbs) the second time around. In short there will NEVER be another like him on planet earth 🌍 🌏 🌎! REST IN PEACE PROFESSOR! With heart felt admiration and sincerity! Gary
The best quote I’ve heard about Neil Peart is, “if he isn’t your favourite drummer, he is your favourite drummers, fovorite drummer” Welcome to the rush rabbit hole!! Rush always believed if they couldn’t re create it live, they wouldn’t record it, they are 3 geniuses that create an orchestra of sound that is so full and they take you on a journey ❤️
Now you are rush fan check out working man live in cleveland then la villa strangiato live im so glad your into rush they are geniuses on there instruments
You should check out the version of this song on the Exit Stage Left album. In the middle, Neal Peart goes on an absolutely tear and KILLS a 3 minute drum solo... mind-blowing. Peart gives a lesson on cymbal work on La Villa Strangiato... he's just crazy good; you could almost listen to him playing alone, even as Geddy and Alex trade off riffs that most of who've picked up instruments in our day simply struggle mightily to play. All three of these guys are in the top of their classes on their instruments.
YYZ is the code for the Toronto International Airport. Alex Lifeson is also a licensed pilot and has actually flown Canadian Air Force F18s. He was flying them back to Toronto and the Morse Code came on for YYZ. Geddy and Neil heard it and it stuck with them. Please check out Working Man live in Cleveland La Villa Strangiato official music video Malignant Narcissism from the Snakes and Arrows tour Cheers
I was kind of "dragged" to my 1st concert of theirs... after some recovery of my FACE MELTING OFF, I was blessed enough to see them 7 more times. Best shows ever, and the ladies room lines were always hella short😂 New sub thanks to your mom & you coming up on my recommendations! Looooved it! Now I'll probably binge watch lol but had to make this my 2nd view!! Whatever people say to listen to next, LISTEN!😉🤘
Great reaction! Now if you really want to see what sets Neil's playing apart from everyone else you have to check out his drum solo from the R30 tour "Live in Frankfurt" Neil not only plays rhythmically but melodically. He puts on a one man show that will absolutely blow your mind (and he had a bad cold during the performance). m.ua-cam.com/video/LWRMOJQDiLU/v-deo.html
Not a big Rush fan, but I do Iove the Moving Pictures album, from which this track comes of course. And credit to these boys: how many rock bands have an instrumental that fans sing along to as enthusiastically as they do the songs!
Rush is in that select group where you can literally pick any line in the song, pay attention to it, and find it amazing. You're gonna be enthralled by it to the extent that you lose track of the rest. You'll be tracking the drums and then realize "This bass line is AMAZING!" and start listening to Geddy going ham on that thing. Then the drums hit you, and you're back over there again. InCREDIBLY rewarding on repeat listens. I mean... You just saw them get _thousands_ of people to sing along... to an instrumental. *boggle* As to Bonzo vs. the Professor, man, I've been waffling on that one for 30 years. As best I can resolve it in my head is that Bonham is _very_ slightly more emotionally expressive and Peart is _very_ slightly more technically skilled. But if you're arguing over the GOAT, naming one of them (or Buddy Rich or maybe the guy from Tool) would not be a foolish choice.
Amazing non lyrical song, YYZ is the airport code in Canada, and the bells you hear in the very beginning of the song is Morse code for distress signal like sos. Pretty creative.
Rush has always been a LIVE band! They mean business when it comes to live performances! People go there to see their raw talent! That's why they have such a huge fan base! Besides that, they are close friends and played for over 40 years! World class musicians! My respect and appreciation for them is steadfast!
The only reason to own their studio recordings is to take a break from the external noises of the live crowds and hear their pure music. Otherwise they are better listened to LIVE BABY! I'm 54 now (yes it's a recent pic of me and my well preserved body) and besides a half dozen radio hits (and YYZ wasn't one of them) I heard back in the day (loved them all), for some incomprehensible reason I never got further into Rush. I became head-over-heels in love with them when I rediscovered them this past current year. I already own 14 of their 19 studio albums (half CD and half Audiophile quality LP's that cost me hundreds) and all their live recordings on audio or video. That's how great I think they are. I am just so happy I rediscovered them, even at age 54, and didn't die before hearing their entire discography! I'm subscribing now, since you are obviously convinced they are worth a deep dive into their discography! I can't wait to see a young man like yourself react to the their songs and see you be amazed as I have been! Being a new fan, I want to suggest some newer songs to listen too, instead of the same old (but indeed great) songs from earlier in their 40+ year career. Since, like you, I have no real nostalgia to draw from and listened to newer tracks for the first time along side their early tracks. I suggest Far Cry from the album Snakes and Arrows, and Headlong Flight from the album Clockwork Angels. Their last two albums respectively.
Three guys sound like 6 or more. Ever go see a band with 6 or more musicians on stage and it sounds like only three of them are playing? I have and that’s extremely disappointing to see and hear. Rush has inspired so many musicians across every imaginable genre that it’s impossible to believe that they aren’t more popular than they are. I’m actually grateful for that because it was always accessible for the average person to see them, because of where they would tour and there was no outrageous cost or circumstance to overcome.🤘🖖✌️🎸🥁🎹🎤
Ok, I stumbled onto you reviews today. You should check out Rush - La Villa Strangiato. And since you are Pink Floyd fan, Rush 2112 (side 1) has kinda the same vibe as Pink Floyd. If you don't end up liking either of the suggestions, I apologize. Thank you, Old Rock Guy
Lol, yeah, he's showing off, or out, as they day nowadays. To me man John Bonham and Neil Peart are two of the greatest rock drummers ever and they were separated in time a little bit and definitely separated by technology but I always thought that you know. Would have loved John Bonham's drumming and possibly be influenced by him and not that long ago I read some interview where that turns out to actually be the case. So it does not surprise me. You know it takes it to know it. That kind of thing. But yeah man his bass playing slaves me every time and I play multiple instruments and sing at the same time and all that kind of thing but man those guys are just so good at it or Geddy was and the others were just so good at what they did. Man you should really listen to the singles off of side B of Rush 2112. For example, something for nothing. I think you would love this shit. But definitely check out the studio according to get what they were really going for. That was the album that was the big fuck you to the record label and then it turned out exploding and it was a gamble that paid off.
@@Rockmusicpodcast let's put it this way. I've been a rock drummer for over 50 years and I think I can speak for most drummers out there that he was the greatest percussionist of our age. ✌❤🇬🇧

Look at the crowd singing to the music of YYZ PRONOUNCED YYZED!
I was a casual fan until I saw them on the Roll the bones tour and my seat was about 100 feet from Niel and he went OFF! Left a super fan!
Well now you must see Neil's solo in Frankfurt. What all drummers strive to accomplish!! RIP to the greatest drummer ever.
one of the best live bands ever, elite class :)

Bass, Sing & keyboards in many songs not many can do that... these 3 are brilliant. And yes as for Peart, thats why he's called the Professor

Sorry I meant to say YYZ is the Toronto Canada international Airport code
The airport code of Toronto is YYZ where the idea for the song came up,while waiting for a plane.

La Villa Strangiato... Only one that touches this song and, in my opinion, is better. At least as far as their instruments go
