Genius!!!!! Thank You!!! I had a brand new pair of shoes that I really liked but to wear them was to go through the seven layers of hell. They have been sitting in my closet for a year barely worn, and I was about to toss them this weekend until I saw your video. So to the garage I go, shoes in hand, wife looking at me confused, I went to town with the rake handle, worked the toes real good, test wore them all day today around the house and no more issues!! Most useful video I have watched in a long time, thanks again.
i know it has been years since this posting... however a couple of thoughts that worked for me. 1) hand held steam generator for cleaning countertops etc works perfect to warm and soften leather. 2) a golf pitching wedge can do wonders when the head is put inside the boot, and moved to the area that needs stretching and manipulated to push on just the right area 3) the rubber mallet used to pound out leather area to be stretched works just like pounding on a tough piece of meat to tenderize. All inspired by this old video
thanks for all the suggestions. I got a leather bag with straps and I got all wet in the rain. I tried it over the oven I think it was on a little too high. it dried out one side off the leather straps to the point of being too stiff especially where they're still together they are about an inch and a half wide. I used all sorts of lubricants and oils it didn't do anything. now the idea of using a rubber mallet sounds like a great option I'll try it. Thanks for all these other suggestions good luck Scotty what's your work and helping us
The rubbing alcohol will make the wood stretcher stick to the insole. Once I didn't think I was going to be able to pull it out. The wood is black and sticky now but it still works. All my shoes fit great and I buy shoes that others complain about running too small and I just stretch them and enjoy a great sale price.
Portia, Thanks for the comments. I have no beta on a good repair shop in Atlanta. next season we are bringing in more size 12 and we can always suggest certain brands that run big in 11s or run small in 12s. let us know how else we can help? thank you
Thanks. I had enough problems finding shoes for my 12 2e and its gotten worse as my arthritic ankle has deformed and I have to wear a brace. My shoes have gotten tight in the small toe region. A 12 4e is comfortable on my bad foot but is like a boat on my good foot. (Hate loose shoes) I'm going to try these ideas to see if I can get my right shoe (bad ankle) to stretch enough to be comfortable. If it works I'll be soooo happy.
hi again l forgot to mention got some nice leather shoes from Burlington Coats but they are too narrow. So I put a couple of boxing bag tubes and Pump It Up oiled up the shoes. get them in for a week or so. Obviously I didn't need them right away. it worked on one shoe great. I'm still working on the other pair. As you're getting older shoes aren.t that easily anymore and really can mess up your feet. lt reminds me of those medieval torture techniques I've seen a Coney Island when I was a kid . That always stay on my mind
Hi Scott thank you so much for your advice - brought these awesome boots on line they are too tight - your advice is the best I've seen - simple and easy. Move over Al Bundy - Scott is in town!! Love your passion and humour too hehe. Regards Jacki Firth Northland New Zealand
Thanks for the ideas. I will definitely try your advice. I am female who wears an 11.5 shoe and that size just does not exist with. Size 11 are a little small and size 12 are too big. I always have a hard time trying to find a cute pair of shoes that fit my huge feet. Thanks again. Do you know of any good shoe repair business in Atlanta?
This video gave me the confidence to stretch my leather shoes with my bare hands like a psychotic caveman. Now they fit very well. Thank you very much.
great tips, but I just purchase a new pair of loafers and the left shoe id hitting my ancle and is paintfull. I like my new shoes but I need help with this problem. can you help?
Maddi, I take an opposite philosophy, my feet are a half size different as are many peoples. i always go with the larger of the two and put an insert (footbed or pad) in the roomy foot to tighten it up. then i don't have one foot too tight and possibly in pain. also not sure if this still happens but at one point Nordstroms would sell different size shoes to accommodate customers and eat the loss on the other odd pair. howeevr this will limit your abiolity to by Niche and Indie brands because they are primarily focused large department store brands. all the best, please let me know how else we can help.
HI! Very nice educational Vid! tons of fun and knowledge! BTW: Could you please give me the music you are playing here? Title maybe and where can i download this? THANKS! :D
hi I have NIKWAX nubuck & suede waterproofing spray at home- will that also work effectively to spary inside the shoe ? ALSO - a bit off topic but you should still be able to throw me some pointers since you deal in "leather"..Do you know how I can repair a vintage belt that has shriveled or curled along the EDGE of belt..its an old belt but the leather is thick so It can take a bit of punishement to make it right (if I can make it right), its basically curved and curled inwards (again, along the edge of belt) around the middle part of the belt- Brgds
What about fire damage? I let my boots too close to a fireplace and the tip has shrinked. It's hard AF. Do I need water? Leather steering wheel covers need to be soaked in water in order to get it on. It's too tight of a fit without it. I wonder which chemicals can be used. What about stuff like urea or tannins used for tanning of hides? Your tips are great but not good enough to solve my problem I guess
@@citysolestv Thanks. I've realized that the leather has shrinked a tiny bit which I could repair with your methods but there's some messed up plastic second layer between the leather and atrificial fur. Leather won, plastic lost
Try putting your foot inside a plastic bag like a Walgreens shopping bag and then pull the boot on and rip the bag out. Wear them and break them in and a couple or times later you won't need the bag to get them on.
Awesomely COOL hoe tip! I just bought online (not wise!) a pair that "should" have been a bit on the large side, going by size (usually wear 6-6.5, depending on style & brand), got a 7 to be safe. Ha!. There is a thick non-removable insole that left NO toe room (top-to-bottom). Forcing a hoe inside and conditioner worked fine. Expensive shoe saved with no waste of $$$. Thanks a ton!
+Rainbow Dash Hello! In our experience the leather looks the exact same when we stretch it. The only difference our customers find is that the shoes feel better! If we leave the stretcher on over night (usually in cases with a bunion) it will hold the shape of the form but will not change the leather. As always, be delicate with your shoes so any straps or seams do not rip!
LiarNoseOnFire Obviously knows nothing about fashion and footwear. All/most European brands are made in full euro sizes womens 35-41 where a 38 = 8, an american women's 8. however if you are an 8 1/2 you are either forced to go small 38 or go big 39. leaving for some fit error and perhaps a need to stretch or put in an insole to tighten up. Also many fashion customers might lean toward improper fit just to achieve a look or get a style not available in there size. squeeze into a 7 when you know you wear a 8.....
Are you kidding me I’m not getting those damn submerge them in water put on some nice pair of sick socks go to sleep in them till they dry out and then condition
How To Stretch Leather Shoes: Take 8 minutes to say "Use a shoe stretcher." DUH...I wish I'd thought of that! How about some helpful info re what to do when that doesn't work? I stretch them & they're Ok for the day I wear them. A week (month / year) month later I put them on again and yeow...back to killer shoes.
+Ten Minute Drum Solo They have to be wet while being stretched, it is essential. People use sprays for this but water will do. They must be in the stretched state as they dry. When dry, the leather stays in that shape. The way shoes stretch naturally is they get wet while being stretched on your feet. After you have got your shoes perfect, use a quality wax shoe polish. This water-proofs the leather and prevents it getting moist again and stretching or shrinking further.

Slide the boot over a broom stick or shovel handle and bend the toe and work the boot. Works almost instantly.

Can sueded boots be stretched out?
This is great!!! I discovered my mom's old Doc Martens in her closet, and they'd be perfect for school once I try these methods...
"Wide" widths are usually just a wide sole with same size upper...causing them to be narrower in depth.

That SxT shirt! Good taste in music
a traditional wood stretcher will widen the foot area. as well as the broom stick handle trick we show in the video. by pushing it on the sides.
This was funny and educational at the same time.
nice advice and good music to accompany!

Will it work for adidas tennis? or just leather shoes?
what can i use for converse leather high tops.... i bought a shoe stretcher but it dont open enough and its hard to turn because the turner is in shoe
Which silicone based waterproofing spray did you use? What brand?
Another cobbler video I watched said you can make your own leather relaxer spray 3 parts water and one part isopropyl alcohol.
the broom stick might ruin your shoes... i think im just going to do the ice method

I'd take it to a local shoe repair to see if they can be saved. I melted the soles of a pair by a campfire, and they are literally toast!

how do you stretch the foot part of a tall boots?
I just purchased a pair of frye tall riding boots, and I'm having a major issue, with the ankle part. I cant get them in at all.
Try putting your foot inside a plastic bag like a Walgreens shopping bag and then pull the boot on and rip the bag out. Wear them and break them in and a couple or times later you won't need the bag to get them on.
citysolestv yes im going to try it. Where can i purchase those tools you use? Boot stretcher comes in handy.
Shoe repair or online
is the stretch a permanent one or do you need to do it every now and then
Should be permanent
After a freakin minute of ramblin dude finally starts tellin us how to stretch shoes smh
best tips ever!!!
Where can I go in Rhode island to have boots stretched
Kathy Petersen
Kathy, any 4 star shoe repair should be able to handle this for you. There are 8 in Providence. What’s your zip?
Good vid, great tips! You kinda remind me of Dane Cook.
Is there something that can stretch the soles maybe a 1/2 size or one full size 😅
Not sure you can stretch soles? Or what exactly are you asking?

Geeze! Why does everyone turn a two-minute instruction video into eight minutes? Move it along!
John Wood longer the video the more they make
He covered a lot of shoe stretching methods in just 8 minutes.
