👁 About this video : About this video: In today's video we install an oil catch can for my 3rd generation Toyota Tacoma! This was a really simple and straight forward installation that is an important part to help in keeping your engine lasting longer! The purpose of an oil catch can is to help prevent crank case oil that's in the top of an engine from recirculating vapor within the engine so that oil is not getting into the intake stream and mixing with everything. This is something that has to be monitored and emptied and the recommendation is every 10k miles, but I will be checking around 500 and 1000 to make sure everything is running smoothly and then check it every 5k miles or once a year when I change my oil. Super easy modification and I recommend doing this to help prolong the life of the engine and make it perform at it's best!

Fantastic. Ordering one now for my 2020 Pro. I built one for my new generator yesterday. I'm ordering this now! Thanks guys!
Sweet! What color pro did you go with!?
@@BrosFOURRSpeed Not that many choices. Actually bought mine right off the transport truck in white.
Oh thats awesome tho! Super cool feeling picking one up before hitting the lot!
I am sooooo glad you posted this video. I've seen people with these on other videos, they've emptied them and they never explained what is was all about. I thought, well, they never said much about it, so, I guess it doesn't do much. I think I'm wrong on the thinking, because your explanation makes me realize that my Runner actually should have one on it. See, that's why your videos are better, you explain things, and don't take it for granted that the entire World already knows about it. Thanks.
Glad you liked the video! That's how we started the channel, showing everything about a product and straight forward! What mods have you done with the 4runner!?
The only major thing was to get rid of the XReas Suspension. I have Bilstein 5100’s on it now. I have an 06 Sport which just turned 77,000 miles. 😀. I did a few things here and there but nothing worth writing about. Thanks for asking. 👍
@@tigergreg8 Oh nice, can't go wrong with Bilsteins. My dad has about 70k on his 2016 so you have pretty low miles on that man! It's not even broke in yet lol
Nice Video! Definitely a mod I will look into doing on my 3rd gen Tacoma!
BrooksyTech For sure man! It was super easy! What else have you done to your Tacoma??
Thanks for sharing. I will be installing a catch can in my FJC.
No problem 👍
First thing I did to my 2016 FJ Cruiser. My intake tract remains clean and my 1GRFE happy.
Tool hack for your hose clamps - most multi-bit screwdrivers (like the one your using) act as nut drivers as well. The bits are either 1/4" or 5/16". Just pull the bit out and voila, you have a nut driver for the hose clamp.
I've actually done that!! Thanks for reminding me tho lol. I forget about that trick ;)
Pretty easy install. I’ve seen a lot of these on Chargers. Your tool chest is awesome btw!
Yea it was straight forward for sure! And thanks! It's small, but gets the job done for now! And it definitely helped being able to bring it out to the truck!
The part number for the OEM hose is 12261-0P110. (In case you decide to remove the catch can or just want a spare.)
Thanks! I probably won't remove it, but I'll be making updates on how it's doing and it I see any major issues I can take it off, but I don't expect to see any I hope!
Can find the part, where can you find it?
@@BrosFOURRSpeed Well?!
Great video guys!!! Cool mod , I love your Tacoma
thanks!
Bros FOURR Speed y’all welcome
Thanks! I am going to get one!
Nice! Glad you found the video helpful!
Thank you. Wanted to know how to install them.
Glad you liked it! Super easy to do and hopefully help the engine life!
I noticed smoother idle and acceleration.
This is no power mod, but it will payoff in the long run to prevent oil gunk build-up on the intake runners.
For sure! Just gives the engine a better life not having to breath in oil
Looking forward to seeing how it works for you before I decide on one.
Yeah it'll be nice to see how much gets collected and I'll be making some IG posts for updates!
You guys should buy the husky rolling tool box. I bought one and did a review on my channel. It has awesome work room for small projects and a good amount of storage. Love the channel!
I like those for sure! Just not enough space in this garage for one! Can't wait though for some more shop space to have one though!
Reduces tick after few months, noticed on my stang GT, lots crap got dumped every oil change, i stuffed SS steel wool in mine for larger shit, always had few nugs in the wool too BTW
I never really noticed a tick with my truck, but it's definitely beneficial for any vehicle!
Thanks for making this video. Does the hose from the PCV valve goes "IN" to the catch can and the other end "OUT" from the catch can goes to the intake manifold? Also, it's been almost 4 years since you installed it. How full does it get every oil change?
I have another question, I have emissions test I have to pass each year. Not smog but just a regular emissions test in Georgia. Will this affect anything when trying to pass that test?
That's a good question, I'm not sure but I want to say it shouldn't effect anything. It looks stock so it might be hard for someone to even see it. How do they usually do that test?
Oil catch can was actually made for GDI (Gasoline Direct Injection) Engines.
Oh yeah? Very useful on every vehicle with crane case hoses that recirculate into the intake
Hey Guys,
Thanks for taking the time to do the install video here, great job. One thing I wanted to mention is you should clean the oil separator filter every 10k miles, but you'll need to empty the can probably every 2500-3000 miles depending on driving conditions. In the winter time expect more in the can due to condensation.
Thanks again!
JLT performance
Awesome guys! Thanks for the tip! What would be the best way to clean the filter inside of the catch can?
@@BrosFOURRSpeed Anytime! Best way is to remove it from the vehicle completely. We typically use an aerosol brake parts cleaner or carb cleaner, just spray into the filter and let it drip dry. I prefer the Carquest/Wearever brand from Advanced auto parts but just about any will do. Do not remove the filter from the can, they are pretty fragile.
shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/wearever-brake-parts-cleaner-non-chlorinated-w7340/7040598-P
Where is the link for this oil catcher? I have a 2017 Tacoma.
Question for JLT/J&L did you switch the side the baffle is on from the JLT oil separator can verse the J&L oil separator can? If the baffle is next to the "J" on the JLT oil separator can than this video shows the can being installed backwards and is pulling the oil misted air through the baffle from the bottom of the baffle and exiting the baffle from the top of the baffle which could allow oil to get into the intake manifold.
The J&L OSC oil separator can is adamant that the hose from the valve cover PCV valve is connected to the side of the oil separator can with the baffle next to the letter "O" and the non baffled side of the can is connected to the intake manifold next to the letter "C". That would pull the oil misted air through the baffle from the top of the baffle and exit the bottom of the baffle into the oil separator can.
What’s the maintenance like in one of these oil catch cans? Can you make a video of that as well??? Idk how to take care of it if i install one.
No need for a video, I talked about that in this one, but every few thousand miles or every oil change, open it up, dump out any oil and reinstall. Pretty simple.
Put 2 on my 2015 Mustang GT. Mustangs spew a lot of oil couldn’t believe how much. Also try taking the replaceable screw driver tip out and use screw driver handle to tighten worm clamps.
I’m not sure what you mean, seems like the easiest way for me.
@@BrosFOURRSpeed on your screwdriver you can pull out the flat and turn it around and make into a Phillips screwdriver yes? Don’t put the piece back in the end and then use screwdriver handle as a nut driver. A lot of those smaller worm clamps are the same size as the hollow end of the interchangeable screwdriver handles
@@douglasbaker5949 You could do that with the one I used in this video, but that wouldn't work since the bolt head took a flat head...but I have a socket to use if needed for that, the handle would not have fit.interesting idea though.
I think i need this thing in my car
Oh yeah! It'll keep as much contaminants out of your engine as possible! What are you driving!?
If you want one for the gtr I'd recommend radium engineering triple catch can.
I'll look into it! That mod has slipped my mind so I'll see! Do you have that one installed?
@@BrosFOURRSpeed I do. Was recommended to me by my tuner/shop and gives a complete vent unlike most other catch cans for the platform. i have pics on my Instagram @gtrobertson1
@@--ace--7273 That looks like a clean setup! I'll have to let Brian know and he can see about getting some for it!
Very necessary on di engines got one on my v6 Camaro with full bolts, e85 and SS intake along with the clean side separater from elite cause still a little oil goes in even with the catch can that's what it there for
Oh nice! That sounds like a good build so far! What other plans do you have for it?
@@BrosFOURRSpeed right now it just coming back from the shop due to accident but it's getting lowered, new paint job, and wrap in satin black on a few parts, but might be doing cams later on by myself if I keep going lol
You can check out my insta, it's the same name once it out the shop it's going for race against a 2017 challenger 5.7 stock, give the v8s something he wasn't expecting a nice L lol
@@cormaro13 That wrap is going to be pretty cool, satin is a good color choice! Cams will make it sound pretty good too!
Like the set up… sorry late post! Looked on posted site and can’t find the set up you have. Any help would be appreciated.

Here yah go!
I thought that part was only beneficial for Direct fuel injection motors? ....doesn’t your Tacoma come with a dual system (both regular and direct injectors).
From what I've seen, regardless it's going to remove excess oil from getting onto your valves and throttle body. So it's definitely only a benefit for any type of engine. Have you thought about doing that to your car, what do you have?
Dude!!! I really like your Tacoma!! I remember you did a review on the XLE Rav4 and was thinking itd be cool if you could customize a 2019 Rav similar to your Tacoma! You'd make it pretty sexy! What do ya think?? :D
Thanks man! Actually my fiancé has a 2017 electric blue Rav that we could potentially match to the truck! I'm thinking a small lift, new wheels, maybe some ditch light and a roof rack! I think she'd be cool with that!
@@BrosFOURRSpeed broo that sounds totally lit!! I have a 2016 CRV which is plain old boring and known for being a "grandpa" mobile LOOL. but i added some LED headlights, fog lights and tailight bulbs! Im trying to add better alloy wheels designs to it lol! Maybe I can Paint the alloys a glossy black? What do ya suggest man? Thanks as always and stay safe bro!!
I just installed mine.
Mine came different. Turns out it was a 4runner one. Worked out because I didn't have to cut my oem hose.
The 4runner comes with longer hoses and the small hose tips on the elbows. So this might be a better option.
The only thing is that the bracket is upside down so when you flip it for the tacoma you don't get the logo on top.
That’s interesting to hear! I’m surprised the 4Runners is different when they have the same engine!
@@BrosFOURRSpeed 4runner’s a 4.0L
Can you tell me which side of the hose goes which one have a screen on it and one doesn't when you open the cover
As long as you have the container and the bracket to bolt it on in the correct orientation, meaning the logo's line up, there's only one way to hook it up, hope that helps!
@@BrosFOURRSpeed thanks!
Switch to Royal Purple 0w 20 your Tacoma will run more quite and not tic as loudly. I change mine every 10k and oil still very clean
Honestly all oil is really the same! I don't have much of a tic either, but I know people who go 10k miles on the oil change intervals and are fine with it!
Better off changing every 5k. In the long run..
Please do an update a year from now. It would be interesting 🤔
I definitely will! I'll post updates on IG along the way and maybe do a review in a year!
Yes an update would be awesome!! Love the videos
Is there an update on how well this product has been working
I sold the truck a few years ago. But it worked great. Just make sure you check it every few thousand miles
Added the same one last month... you wont be disappointed
Oh nice!! Thanks for letting me know I'll like it! I'm hoping it'll be a great part for the long term, have you had to empty yet in that month?
How does this make a Toyota engine last longer? I've got a Tundra with 200k miles and all I've done is change the oil using mobile 1 and cheap regular oil filter. Truck runs like its still new and uses no oil between changes.
That's awesome to see your tundra at 200K!! So engines can run for that long without it yea! This just helps keep it a little more clean and it can improve that mileage over time by keeping more contaminates out of the engine. Just makes it that much more efficient, you don't need it, but it's cheap insurance and only beneficial.
That’s because all Tundra are port injectors engines which means gasoline is sprayed on the sides of the intake values allowing them to wash with gasoline. Gasoline is a good solvent to wash carbon or oil build ups. Tacoma’s engines are Gasoline Direct Injected which means the injectors spray inside the cylinders and does not wash the intake values causing carbon and oil build up. My 2007 Tacoma has 460k miles and is going strong because of the oil catch can. Also you maintain optimal air ratios for combustion. The Tacoma is about 10.5 to 1, that means cleaner air allows better fuel Economy and hp.
Any updates on how much oil was trapped?
It's only been about 1/4 inch if that, I've checked it periodically and seems to be the same amount so it's doing it's job!
What do you think would happen guys on extreme cold weather to that oil catch can filter? Would it be clogged by oil/water and causes seals to blow?
In the cold it's wise to check it every now and then. Back in the day my brother had a Genesis Coupe and in the winter it collected with a ton of water in a month. But that was when he'd drive to campus in college and the engine didn't get to temp before shutting it off
@@BrosFOURRSpeed thanks for your response! I would empty it every day. I have no problem with that, but my concern is that if the bronze filter clogged up by frozen water/oil.
Where did you buy your lift kit?
I got it from headstrong offroad, they have a lot of options. Here's my install video if you need a reference! ua-cam.com/video/c1c0yfm7GXQ/v-deo.html
Does the catch can void warranty? My local Toyota dealer was hesitant to tell me that it wouldn't. They said that "by installing one you aren't voiding warranty...If you have an issue we connect to the catch can we'd have an issue." What do you guys think? Anyone heard anything official? How could an oil catch can void any warranty? Can it negatively affect any stock systems?
I don’t see how this would void warranty, but if you ever had issues you could take it off. I still have this installed and never had any issues or on any other vehicle I’ve had.
@@BrosFOURRSpeed Thank you for that! Leaning more towards just installing. Cheers!
Toyota thought of this problem and uses both direct and port injection. That's why "D4S" is on your engine cover.
So, I am at a loss as to why this is needed ?? You are adding crap to a well engineered machine for no reason at all.
During low engine load, port injection is used (and Otto cycle). During high engine load, direct injection and Atkinson cycle is used.
So....yea, the whole idea of using port injection is to benefit from traditional fuel detergent cleaning of the intake valves.
It still collects oil that would be going back into the intake system and into the cylinders. It's never a bad idea to have a catch can regardless of other engine technology going on
Will this void the warranty?
No lol
They should have put a clean out valve on the bottom.
A lot do. But thats actually harder to do. This works very well that I can just unscrew the bottle and pour it out.
@@BrosFOURRSpeed pretty simple to place a ball valve on bottom of the cup. My RX catch can I had on the Ecoboost had one.
What does this product do? You mention "oil catch can", what does that mean? Any advantages?
The way stock cars are designed, there is a pipe connected to the top of the engine that goes to the intake tube. The intake sucks oil vapor out of the engine and recycles it into the combustion chamber. This catch can collects that oil vapor. That way your engine runs cleaner. No need to be burning oil inside your engine.
Thx man
Any update with this?
I've mentioned it shortly in a few videos, but it's been great and doing it's job! It only had about 1/4 or so in it when I checked so I'm going to make sure to empty it every oil change which for me is once a year!
Change thay blade brah that was making me nervous. Btw its also how i cut the tip of my finger half way off.
Yeah you gotta be careful cutting like that!
What is that bolt size on the top of the engine???
Probably a 10 mm. I don't remember of the top of my head
I had a catch can from another vehicle and was gonna use it. Just needed the bolt lol
Oh gotcha. I'm sure you cold make it work tho pretty easy

Yup! It was a heck of a deal compared to a used one at the time! Super happy with being able to go brand new, are you looking to buy a new Tacoma!? Here's the video I filmed collecting it, if you have time to take a look! ua-cam.com/video/ZxNjaw9c2co/v-deo.html

@@txkingg Oh nice man! Heck yeah! It's crazy how well they hold value! I had a few more features too going new which I don't regret!
Doesn't the oil helps lubricate your combustion chamber as a secondary benefit? Since you have dual injection, I would say not using an oil catch can is better.
Not exactly. The gas sprayed into each cylinder lubricates them enough. An oil catch can can only help efficiency and performance.
Where can I find one of these guys

That’s where I picked mine up.
I got it from Rogue Offroad! www.rogue-offroad.com/product-p/3104d-b.htm
How's it working?
Been great. Fills up with maybe a teaspoon of oil in 6 moths. So it's nice that doesn't go into the engine
Any updates on this?
It works just as you would expect! I checked it a few times just to make sure and I've had about 1/4'' or so of oil in it!
@@BrosFOURRSpeed this is amazing information;
I've been running a ton of stuff and everyone mentions the oil catch can as a good easy mod. Rn I got catless ypipe to a vibrant resonator to Carven catback.
Intake I have an injen ram air, throttle body spacer fro afe, and RIPP coils with ngk sparks running on kdmaxx 7.0 custom for increased airflow;

Oh dang! Atleast that’s an easy part to take off if needed.
Spiker hood struts not Redline. Made in America!
I have not heard of those companies, but I do have struts on the way!
Thanks I went and check these hood struts out definetly gonna be getting these soon I do all the maintenance on my tacoma and after 84,000 + miles it would be nice if the hood just held up its self without using the hood rod lol
If you installed the catch can with the intake side on the side of the can with the baffle which should be the side next to the
"J" and the PCV hose side to the side that is non baffled which should be the side with the "T" then you installed the catch can backwards.
The baffled side always connects to the hose from the valve cover from the PCV hose. The non baffled side always connects to the intake manifold hose. Your video you don't really say which hole you connected to which side of the can but from the looks you did connect the can backwards.
I have the J&L OSC and the PCV connects to the side with the "O" because it is the baffled side, and the intake manifold connects to the side with the "C" because it is the non baffled side. Being the writing is the same orientation on these two cans (JLT is now J&L) leads me to believe your can was installed backwards. The JLT and the J&L OSC are the same can they just changed the wording on the top of the can and the bracket but the orientation of the writing is the same.
I connected it the right way, it’s worked great since this video.
@@BrosFOURRSpeed Your reply is like your video we still do not know if the PCV hose is connected to the side of the can with the baffle and is the intake manifold side connected to the side without a baffle.
If the JLT oil separator can has the baffle on the left side next to the letter "J" then your video shows the can is in fact installed backwards.
It would be strange that JLT who is now J&L would laser etch the logo 180 degrees opposite on the J&L oil separator cans from how they laser etched the JLT logo on the oil separator cans because JLT says it is the same oil separator can just called J&L OSC now.
Could you do a physical check because there is another video out by another UA-camr who installed the J&L oil separator can like you installed this JLT oil separator can but I know for a fact the J&L OSC was installed backwards and J&L OSC is adamant that the baffled side is to be connected to the hose from the valve cover from the PCV valve.
Is the reason they have the laser etched logo on both the oil separator can and the bracket because they knew the can may have to be turned 180 degrees on some applications like this V6 Tacoma to line up the baffled side of the can with the line from the valve cover PCV Valve?
I am bringing this up because your video nor your reply answers this question if the hose from the valve cover from the PCV Valve is connected to the baffled side of the can.
Just because you are getting oil in the can does not mean it is working correctly if you do have the baffle on the wrong hose because you are working with a vacuum and you are pulling the oil misted air from the hose from the valve cover and the PCV valve oil can still be making its way into the intake manifold due to it being pulled up through the baffle from the bottom of the baffle existing from the top of the baffle instead of being pulled through the baffle from the top of the baffle and exiting into the can from the bottom of the baffle.
Update! They wont ship to California! ( big surprise). Can someone help a brother out and tell me what size the factory hose is then I can buy a universal one? Thanks in advance!
I took the tape measure out to the truck and it looks like it's just under .5'' so if you can find something close to that, I'm sure it can work with the factory clamps!
@@BrosFOURRSpeed Super helpful thank you. I have a quality (I hope) universal one coming should work fine.
@@robertyoung8289 Awesome, hope that works! Crazy they won't ship to Cali, but I'm sure it's pretty restrictive their during this time!
Unfortunately we can't ship to California due to CARB regulations on this product.
How often we check these
I check it every oil change so for me that's once a year! When I first installed it, I went a few weeks just to make sure, but after a while you can judge how it'll be. Even twice a year would be fine or anytime you have the hood open.

@@AllegedGamer Well dang! Sorry to hear about the wreck, but glad to you you're back in a tacoma! This is my second one, I had a 2007 before this!
Waste off money only turbo charged cars need oil catch cans because they tend to weaken the rings and allow too much oil back into the engine, you bought a tacoma to last you 20 years not a genesis that will last you 2
Thats not true at all. Ever engine will benefit from an oil separator. Lees oil going into the intake manifold, the cleaner it'll run. Yes this truck will run 300k miles easy. But its run just a hair better because of tis. 1000 miles later, it already collected a bit of oil
Absolutely don't do this you'll lose 7 MPG on my truck anyway
That's not true at all! This won't affect mpg at all, where do you get that from?
This is too funny. Is the intent to show people you don’t need to be mechanically inclined to work on your own vehicle? If so, you NAILED it! Thanks
umm, how so? We installed this properly. It doesnt take a rocket scientist to install a catch can. We installed everything ourselves on all our vehicles. Lift kits, high clearance front and rear bumpers on the Tacoma. GTR downpipes, injectors ect.. R8 exhaust, Supra bolts ons. Look at our videos. We've always installed things perfect
