    I think you capture the spirit of Fahey better than any player out there today. Your Blind Joe Death transcription book is amazing too. Absolutely spot on, even the odd, quirky nuances. Every Fahey fan who plays guitar should own that. Please do more books. Thank you for all the music

    You have these guys who play guitar and it sounds killer, and then you have these guys who seem to be played by their guitars such as fahey. Fascinating the dichotomy

    Transcendental as always. Take pity on those less fortunate than us who have not yet accepted Fahey into their lives.

    Remarkable composition. Huge in scope and breadth. Epic. At the risk of sounding priggish, it seems to encapsulate life itself. Growth and decay. Spring and winter. Accretion and dissolution. The universal rise and fall to which all things must submit. A Dylan Thomas poem comes to mind. “The force that through the green fuse drives the flower
    Drives my green age; that blasts the roots of trees
    Is my destroyer.” Thank you for giving this piece the dignity and grace that it deserves. Happy New Year.

    You truly are a marvel. Your interpretations are wonderful. I know a guy who is friends with Max Ochs, a minor figure from the old Takoma Records days. Im going to have my friend recommend your videos to him, just in case he's not familiar with your work. I'll bet he'd be interested to hear you play. Your interpretations are spooky good.
    And damn that guitar sounds great with those old strings.

    Marvellous playing. I want to say that you might be one of the very few guitar player able to match Fahey's deep sensitity to tone and atmosphere. Your ongoing work is crucial and precious, thank you for doing it (big fan of your BJD book by the way, it helped me to dig deeper into those songs). Cheers!

    Really good playing, it's like hearing John Fahey. I know the first version from "Death Chants, etc.", that is quite different. I've heard the intro of this version before, I think it's borrowed from Debussy or Ravel, can't pin it down just now.

    • @andrewlardner
      @andrewlardner  2 місяці тому +1

      The Larsons were building some of the first guitars beyond Martins dreadnought in terms of size. There were a few oddball guitars that were earlier that were also huge but the Larsons really had it figured out imo.

    • @babylemurman
      @babylemurman 2 місяці тому +1

      @@andrewlardner Cool! What model/year is it? Do you find larger bodies more difficult for fingerpicking? Personally I do, I'm thinking to replace of my dreadnaught for something more in the OOO size range.

    • @andrewlardner
      @andrewlardner  9 місяців тому +3

      Hard to say for sure because I haven't changed them in several years. I usually use Daddario pb light or medium

  • @LonesomeLeftist
    @LonesomeLeftist 8 місяців тому

    I read somewhere, you've been playing the same strings for years on this guitar. I don't know if this is a dumb question, but how do you keep the strings from breaking for so long, while frequently playing so many different tunings? Seems like mine wants to last 6-8 months tops, and it annoys me as I really like the Nick Drake-ish sound I get when they're all worn out.

    • @andrewlardner
      @andrewlardner  8 місяців тому +1

      I don't tune it around that much. If there's something I want to record on this guitar I'll get it out and mostly just leave it in that tuning. Might sound weird but some guitars just don't really seem to break strings very often, not sure if it's a nut that was set up well or what. I've had this one for around 10 years and I feel like I've never broken a string on it. I remember George Winston telling me he loved to play on old dead strings. He said he would openly invite people to send him their old strings when they changed them.

    • @LonesomeLeftist
      @LonesomeLeftist 8 місяців тому

      @@andrewlardner That's such a fun anecdote. I might not go as far as asking for peoples old strings, but I'll try and keep the strings on for as long as possible when my D-35 arrives in two months and pray it's one of the special guitars that don't break strings haha.
      Do you take the strings off to clean and moisture the guitar to put the same strings back on afterwards, or do you simply let it be as it is?

    • @andrewlardner
      @andrewlardner  7 місяців тому

      @@LonesomeLeftist Haha no I just let it be. I'm not very big on cleaning guitars. Maybe a little 0000 steel wool on the frets and fretboard if a lot of dirt is starting to build up, but even then that could be years before it needs that.

    • @LonesomeLeftist
      @LonesomeLeftist 7 місяців тому

      That's fair haha. Nice to know everyone with high end guitars aren't hysterical about them! I'm already stressed about mine due to som peoples advice, and it haven't even arrived yet. I think I'll aim for your state of concern as opposed to theirs. Thanks for your reply.

    • @andrewlardner
      @andrewlardner  7 місяців тому

      @@LonesomeLeftist I think for some, part of the hobby of owning guitars is obsessively caring for them. That’s fine too. As long as they are not subjected to temperature or humidity extremes they’ll be fine. The house stays around 33% humidity in the winter and about 45% in the summer. Never have had any issues. I personally don’t bother with case humidifiers or anything like that.
