Part of the joy of RC is fixing things after you run them! Foamies need glue, quads need props or video, boats need electronics, cars need tires and bodies, Oh the joy LOL!

    Hey B! Love your content.
I’d really love to see you do a video on your field kit.
To see what tools and materials you bring to the lake.
Looks like a good kit and I’d love to know what you see as the essentials to bring to the lake.
Keep up the good work man. LETS FRIGGIN GO!

Let's go BIG B. Bro , you really know how to make these boats fast. That steering servo took a serious beating 😮. Glad you were able to get it fixed without a lot of damage.

Rubber grommets were developed to isolate the servo from internal combustion engine vibrations. Not needed for electrics.

I always put metal gears in my boat servos
And I always use the rubber grommets on my rcs even all of my 6 boats B just don't wrench it super tight, just think how much vibration the boat has... saved the servo I think never had a problem with them coming loose.

I used to use those inserts on the job. We would heat them up and "melt" it into the plastic. As for the rubber grommet, i dont use em. Like somebody said, it lets the servo flex.

When my friends and i haveva bad day boating we call it a martin day , back story my mate brought his mate alongwho flew rc planes and told he knew what he was doing within minutes his boat was in the reeds he grabbed my recovery boat didnt know what he was doing got that jammed as well burnt out the esc trying to get it out , my real mate crashed his due to a faulty servo and mine stopped in the middle of the lake , no recovery cause martin destroyed that then suddenly my esc caught on fire and burnt out the boat , hence our term a martin day when everything goes wrong

I bought a new hull with a dented nose for my Sonicwake, I never installed the decals so the boat was an amazing white! Two days ago my Flycolor 150 esc blew up in the boat, a big poof sound came from the boat in the middle of the lake! I was thinking all the work on the boat and now it may sink! I grabbed my pontoon boat headed to the rc to watch it take on water as it was smoking. I was able to retrieve the boat, open it up then find my batteries were in perfect shape but the esc had wires melted off. The cover of the boat has melted slightly and everything - I mean everything everywhere smells of burnt boat! How do we keep going at times like this? How do we dive in and repair such problems? Where do we find a good air freshener for the garage?

You can also just use a small tip on your soldering iron and heat that threaded insert and then just press it in with the iron. I have a couple m-jet boats that use a bunch of those all over and never had one come loose 😉

My understanding of the rubber grommets is that they are shock absorbers, when used on land vehicles they will give and help protect the servo from being dosilaged from it holder, I’ve never use them but rely on servo savers on my land vehicles (crawlers are to slow for servo savers) however as far as boats are concerned I want that firm contact with no play what so ever in the linkage, no movement from my servo holder and certainly no movement from a servo saver.

When it comes to crashes there are times it doesnt matter what the hull is made from nothing survives, seen almost as many fiberglass and carbon hulls with split seams as polycarbonate when the conditions are just right, or should i say just wrong, especially when pushing the limits of your electronics, speed and hull material.

It's always bugged me that my sonic v2 barely turns left. After watching and taking notes of the super sonic I noticed that they put a way longer rudder on it and it has good left turning. So i put a bigger rudder on the v2, a 130mm rudder, and what a difference. It turns great both directions now. The only problem is that it will no longer do 360s. So I guess you have to give something to get something

Glad to see the damage was minimal. I've had more than a few 'mishaps' work my boats...but, thankfully, no damage worth mentioning. So far, the worst I've done is break some rudder breakaway bolts, bend a turn fin, and almost slice my thumb off (my own stupidity...don't ask...lol).
