23rd of December and our little Harry is still very active in our garden each night. We've also had a couple of newbies visiting over the last couple of weeks. Although they seem to just be snacking on their way through 🦔🦔🦔 Merry Christmas to all x

Thanks for the great update. I was home in the UK May to November and loved looking after and observing the hedgehogs in my own garden. Now I’m working away in Australia I miss the trail cam footage from my own garden but my wife assures me the feeding station is still getting daily visits from our resident hegger hoggers. Keep up the good work.

With the mild weather at the moment, it looks like I might be feeding Walter for some time still, so hopefully your hog also gets the time to add on some weight before the colder weather does come in.

Mine is still active, eating well and the last 2 nights has started gathering leaves and the hay I've put out for him. So I think he's getting ready to hibernate. Can you tell if they are male or female without picking them up?
Hi Claire, Walter is still active this morning, the 28th, though he returned home before the first of the snow started. He is becoming less active, but hasn't decided to hibernate just yet. It's supposed to be colder in the next few days than it has been, so that might tip the scales for him, but no sign of settling down just yet. As for identifying them, the way I rely on is using the camera; it's not guaranteed, but generally thy will give you a shot when they scratch themselves that shows their belly and you can see if they are male or female. Picking them up isn't a guarantee at all, since they will curl up and you cannot see their belly at all, so generally that isn't the best way to identify them. Other than seeing them physically there isn't any specific behaviour or trait to indicate male from female.
