I cannot adequately describe the talent young lady possesses. Her musicianship on her instrument needs not to be explained. Her singing is one of her most unique skills. The way she understands the lyric of the song and the feeling she imparts to it enables the listener to feel it to the core of his being. Rita will be an international star for many years.
Absolutely right!
Incomparable passion and raw emotion! Rita and the song became one! ❤
Thank you for this comment, too bad she probably won't see it. 😊
At 16 Rita's rendition of this song was amazing. How to top it? Well just a few years more and this Luiza is just masterful adding new dynamics and emotional insight. The journey she takes us on is an even richer one, sorrow, haunted by the possibility of delight. I've called her feral for her fearless breaking of convention. Not a tame singer, no neat and tidy chanteuse, but one for whom emotional, narrative honesty trumps everything.
Yet, she has the tools of a professional and seasoned musician, confident and unselfconscious. She half-turns to Yves so he can follow her timing and dynamics. For this song the band is her instrument too.
These are the ingredients of greatness. What a lovely record of it. Thank you, Werner!
Thank you so much for this great comment! And yes when I talked to her after the concert I was really impressed by her mature and natural personality, very glad to have had the chance to meet and film her ! It was my first time then I even heard her name!
A very insightful comment indeed. It's exactly what makes Rita's absolutely unique. I simply cannot find anybody equaling her in this kind of repertoire. A good example is Carinhoso. Only Elis Regina could sing on such an elevated plane. I'd still prefer Rita precisely because she is far more moving and authentic.
@@christopherwaz6913 I can only agree with you. I think whilst we may have compared her as a singer to Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday back at SAJB, I think these comparisons, whilst they held some truth, still failed to account for all the things she was trying. For me, for all the performance niggles, taking a nice but fairly trite song like Polka Dots and Moonbeams, and evoking the fluttery mightbes of Love resolving into a serene certainty is emotionally peak. We need perhaps to make comparison more with performers like Brel and Piaf?
I would love to see her try her hand at acting. She inhabits the characters in her story with great commitment. And she can go to the limit. (Strange Fruit!)
Here's a link to that 16yo performance. (Ignasi is some kind of pianistic genius there. Just as Rita here is a trom genius.)

Rita and her mother Elisabeth Roma, classical guitarist released an album of Bossa Nova and Spanish tunes called Imagina.
Podrían pedirle que aprenda portugués
One of the most beautiful songs from A.C. Jobim, here in Rita's passionate, very moving and brillant performance!
Brilliant, Rita. This is where the magic happens for true artists... in the multitude of "small" gigs.
So true.

Only enjoying this for about the 50th time on my evening walk especially if you’ve heard her studio recording this it’s so nice to hear what she does with it in this case
No sé si Rita sepa cuántos admiramos su interpretación y su sencillez. Lo mejor para ti en este tiempo tan difícil que nos ha tocado vivir. Una abrazo desde Perú.
Une pure merveille...
Thank you for this comment! 🙂
Rita Payes is as simple as great! A true Musician. Listen to her!
A great honor to the Brazilian music and its master Antonio Carlos Jobim in this brilliant Rita's performance!
I've seen this before and it is lovely. As I watched again,I noticed that the camera angle at the start makes Rita look tall--Rita is all sort of wonderful things but the one thing sheis not is 'tall'!
I hope it does'nt diminish the pleasure of hearing her great performance, though! 😊

Viva Rita, vivaaa!
Those quick lip slurs and tone reminds me the late Jack Teagarden. She has uncanny abilities and great range on the trombone and it’s great to see young musicians embracing this unique instrument. It’s all her!
Rita preciosa una joya tienes un gran talento soy tu fan no1

Bravo Rita!! En Colombia te escuchamos
In greek, we call a magic moment like this during an artistic event "μέθεξις" (methexis)!
Fantastic!!!!!! A Young Great Musician !!!
Thank you for your publications, especially these of Rita Payes. I love the way she expresses the desires in this beautiful love song. Alas, isn't it "Luiza" by Tom Jobim? I've heard her sing it with Joan Chamorro, and she sings the title at the end, 6:57.
I think you're right, she had mentioned the other title during the concert...thanks !
Rita es genial!
Maravilhosa interpretação. Obrigado. Desde Santos Brasil
Great solo! And everything and everyone else..
Definitivament aquest tema l'ha fet seu. Personal i únic.

¡Mágico!
Meravigliosa👍
Exquisite!
Grossartig!!! Vielen Dank!!!
O mi god.
Thanks Werner!
I'm 82, when I came up we had Charlie Parker, Bud Powell, Charlie Christian, Dizzy, Miles and 'Trane, Bill Evans, Barney Kessel and Shelly Manne and Ray Brown, Wes Montgomery, the Four Freshman, the King Sisters, Lambert Hendricks & Ross, Kenton and Herman's Four Brothers, and 'Spike' Basie with Freddie Green and Sonny Payne, the Duke, the JAZZ CRUSADERS, the West Coast sound of Chet and Gerry and Gil Evans. And Errol Garner, Ramsey Lewis, Quincy Jones, Stephane Grappelli, Horace Silver, Bobby Timmons. And Astrud and Getz, Gilberto and Jobim, Oscar Peterson and Diana Krall now (Krall just HAS to appear with Chamorro and the band, girl singers and all, just HAS to!).
***AND Anita O'Day, June Christy, Chris Connor, Julie London, Sue Raney, Carol Sloane.***
But I never had Joan Chamorro and Andrea and Rita and Eva and Elia and Magali and Alba. Thank the Lord I've got them now.
P.S. Chamorro is God's gift to children and music, to All of Us. Mi corazon....
P.P.S. What Payes does here with Jobim is THE TOP OF THEM ALL, and yet so young, wow.
Thank you for your comment...I did'nt even know her name when I saw her in this concert and spoke to her afterwards. I'm just 4 years "less aged" than you so I "know" allmost all of these great "jazz people" you cited here, but I lived in Germany until 1964 and in Switzerland the next 20 some years and could only see some of them on stage (Dizzy, Monk, G. Mulligan and some more) but we used to visit record stores to listen, rarely ever to buy... :-)
Now, thanks to Internet and youtube we have the chance to "get in touch" with allmost all of the old and th new players !!! All the best to you !
@@JazzWerner Yeah, Jazz Is Dead in Dead Collapsing America. And the musicians knew that decades ago and FLED TO EUROPE to survive, it wasn't just Nina Simone.... Given what this Evil Capitalist Shthole is now doing to Europe, I wonder how much longer Sant Andreu and Spain will survive as a thriving economy and viable society. Thanks for the reply, the best.
Be reassured, Europe is a lot stronger than you might think and we certainly are over this other guy..
I started following the new jazz generation of USA, like Emmet Cohen and alike and he is amazing ! And Samara Joy, the great singer, saw her in Toulouse !
Sobrenatural...
me mataste otra vez
No le importa nada! Toca el trombón con el mic en la mano jajaa que genia Rita!
if the sound tecnician is smart as it is sounding nice, he used that mic in hand on the trombone to catch harmonic stuff to the recording, maybe. new generation musicians are amazing. thanks for sharing
Amazing
Tienes una linda voz
Ai Rita ! me mata.
