I like your review. You have a very chill voice and speak at times that give me a chance to enjoy and analyze the gameplay on the screen. Plus, you just get right to the points.
Damn, That Frame drop on PS3 is worse than it was on 360, but yet Metacritic rates the Xbox 360 lower than the PS3 and PC verison, thats bullshit. To me next to the PC the 360 verison is the best verison. As a whole with the video, I agree man. F.E.A.R 2 is an awesome shooter, had a blast playing the single player, and playing the multiplayer is so much fun with friends, just posted a review of it on my channel, come check it out.
Russian Bear me too, ive just decided to buy it... sold a bunch of xb1 and ps4 games i had lying around that i had barely played because i got bored with them after 2 hours and bought rhis and some other ps3 games i hadnt gotten around to playing and Im not dissapointed
Good revue, just rented it and gonna try it tonight. I loved Dead Space soo much I played it twice!! The 2nd time three beers deep with only the maxed out plasma cutter and the white armor. It was a riot! I hope they make a sequel.
@afi567x Have you ever played bioshock? I found some momments scar as shit, like the time where you go into an average engine room, with "dead" splicers then when you reach the exit door , the lights go out and you can see some of the area from the exit sign's light, the splicer stand up and run at you. However most of the areas are just creepy. I dunno, i was thinking of playing it but on the first mission i got a bug, when i get out fo the car i get a "falling down" animation and unless
Mark, The fact that you compare it to Dead Space is reason enough for me to buy it. I love Dead Space. Can you believe, I actually bought Dead Space because of your review of it... straight to the point and practical. If this game is as good then I'll definately give it a shot. Played the DEMO and was not impressed, but that can be said about a lot of games. Looking forward to part 2! Take that X Play!
Wow, normally I don't like any type of sci-fi games or even movies at all, but this really does look like a good fun game. I'm going to have to try this game out.
I'll definitely put this on my "to-do" list. I really liked the first FEAR, but a lot of people didn't. Most of those same people say they like this one more, so that sounds like I would surely like this one as well.
I was never really a fan of horror games, but I'm starting to get into the genre. I'm trying out the Resident Evil series, and I plan on trying out Silent Hill, Dead Space, Fatal Frame, and Amnesia. Would this series be good to try out as well? :)
You have a good argument I think seeing as in F.E.A.R. one had scary elements like climbing through vents with alma appearing out of nowhere spider crawling toward you and flashlight batteries dying, but F.E.A.R. 2 expanded by breaking out of office spaces and going into creepy hospitals and schools. I don't know. I like them both.
Haven't beaten it, only played couple hours. Does Fear 2 have alot of supernatural stuff in it, or does it aim towards FPS....I love the scare aspect of games
Kiraitcool, that is subjective. What you say isn't obsolete. I recently bought this game for the PS3 today but I have yet to play it. I didn't like the original fear but I have watched a few reviews and read a little about this game and it definately looks like an improvment. I have also played Dead Space and that game didn't really scare me that much, but definately a game worth playing imo.
Hey Mark, Theres a really cool downloadable expansion for this game on xbox live(IDK if it's on PS3 as well) called Fear 2 Reborn where you play as a replica soldier during the events of the first game. Four brand new levels for ten dollars. If you can get ahold of it you should positively review it!
@IMattee Response to an old comment of yours; I agree, I was never scared in FEAR 1, it's 2 "sequels", Penumbra Overture, and Penumbra: Black Plague. I have to find a "scary" horror game. I haven't tried this 2nd one out, but the demo wasn't really promising, as it didn't creep me out a second. But I do think this game is more of FPS than Horror, while Penumbra was more of Puzzle than Horror.
one of my favorite fps shooters on the former generation of console there is nothing new introduced to the genera but holey crap what a fun and polished game. as lord carnage states play through the first hour or so and it will start to pay off. also the spike gun is so frigging fun and well done.
I played the first FEAR game expecting to find it really freaky, but I was happy to finish it because it bored me so much. This one looks much better, I shall definitely check it out.
hows the ai in the game because that was one of the main bullet points in the first one from what ive heard Also i just started replaying red faction agine and its still is holding up thanks so much for doing the review and telling us about redFaction
Im not sure if im the only one who suggested this game, but i see Mark has taken my suggestion in trying this game :D. Like I said though...Im prolly not the only one that recommended it to him..
i like fears atmosphere, you could cut the tension with a knife, especially if you play it in the dark with headphones on., plus the soundtrack was sublime, i feel sorry for snakefist though, poor guy.
Get FEAR 2 and you will forget what happened with FEAR 3. It is just like the first one but improved, the storyline is incredible and the gameplay is wonderful. I enjoyed this game a lot!
I recently downloaded the demos of Amnesia and F.E.A.R. 2 on Steam. Didn't go through them the whole way, but damn, are they creepy as hell! They're giving me a lot of thrills, which I haven't had in a long time. I'll definitely look more into the genre. :)
Well, it's a very good start. Depends really on what kind of horror you're after. Personally I don't really care for Resident Evil anymore since it has been going down a cliff lately. Silent Hill, Dead Space and Amnesia are both very good in their own respective ways of portraying horror. If you're a fan of Lovecraft, I'd recommend Call of Cthulhu.
I found that FEAR 1 was creepy and capitalized when you were creeped out by doing that freaky shit with Alma, however, 2 just seemed to creep you out and never try to scare you
I just got the pc version. My pc is pretty strong. It looks so good. The reason why I am saying this is that the ps3 version does not look that much different from the pc version. Did they actually get a third party game to look as good as a pc game on the ps3?
I made myself play F.E.A.R before installing this (on pc). There are a few things that they have removed, such as quicksave and the leaning functionality, but as a continuation to the story started in the first game, this really is good.
I definitely recommend the Dead Space series, I have not played the others yet though. But I've beaten both of the Dead Space games, and they are incredible.
Once again, it's subjective. Not everyone is scared of the same things. Games like fear and fear 2 and even doom 3 and dead space all lose their 'scaryness' once you have played them once. That's just how single player games are. I have started playing fear 2 and I am up to the part where you first encoutner those human-like zombie guys that run around and climb walls really fast. Gotta say I'm really enjoying the game so far.
Also about graphics making a horror game. I sugget you play amnesia the dark descent and silent hill 2. Those games look ok today (well SH2 still looks amazing to me but its a 10+ year old game so i dont expect the same from everyone) and they are way more scarier than fancy games with their big budget scares. The best horror games ive played
this game on the hardest difficulty was... so... perfect.. the ai is very very good.. the gun play is delicious... and yeah... I've beaten this game on every difficulty and I keep coming back for more.. yum... great game
the way I see it FEAR 1 was the asian horror movie popularised in the late 90s and FEAR 2 was the hollywood remake. An excellent remake mind you I'm not complain it was just much bigger budget, more action, less tense but still a great action game with a few scares
I played the demo of the FEAR 2... On PS3, it was kind of cool. Got reallllyy creepy in the school though. And when my uhh squad mate guy or some guy from a different squard, comes around the corner and melees me, and suddenly there was that huge implosion from around the corner... and then things just got a lil nerve racking... I was literally wide eyed. O.O
@213MeXiCaN714 1. The game is fairly long. 2. As an FPS, this game is ok. The controls, bullet power, variety of weapons etc is solid, so glitchy stuff won't frustrate you, but it's not stunning either. 3. The storyline is fantastic. If you haven't played the first FEAR, play the 2nd one first. It's better if you don't know what's going on. 4. This game is VERY SCARY. Especially the school part. 5. This game is great and one of my favorite games. I highly recommend it!
I hate the "beeping" sound at 4:27 - 4:32 , reminds of those last few levels in F.E.A.R. 1 when you're in the Vault or whatever it is called and everything is in total chaos and the ground shakes and all that stuff, it's awesome! Going to buy this game and going to complete it on the hardest difficulty just like F.E.A.R. 1 !
This game kind of overlaps the old game. If you want to buy fear 1 first you can, you don't miss out a lot of the story of the games if you skip over the first game. FEAR 2 fills in a lot of the holes and questions that FEAR 1 left, but if you got the money than sure you can buy the first one first.
For the sake of playing an awesome game you should. I loved the first FEAR, and while yo ucan probably play FEAR 2 without the first on, it does is a continuation I think. Still have to buy FEAR 2 myself.
To be honest, the weapons and weaponanimations from FEAR 2 in FEAR 1 - would have been the perfect horror fps. And FEAR 2 has more instant scares, that is ok - but doesn't really scare me.. FEAR 1 has mindfuck - enough said. And I like the enemies in FEAR 1 better - when I played FEAR 2 I found them.. Highlighted? Like they were very bloomy and easy to spot. Whilst in FEAR 1 they blended better with the scenery. FEAR 1 left more of a mark than FEAR 2. This is just my opinion tho..
i love this game. but it creeps the hell out of me when i see soldiers running away from some floating body or when a guy is getting sucked into an elevator.
I disagree that FEAR 1 is outdated. Graphics if not acceptable are at least crystal clear and you can easily run it with full graphics at virtually any PC. Also shootings mechanics and AI (especially the second one) are features that few shooters even to this day have achieved. AI and solid shooting mechanics are what makes FEAR a must play even today and graphics are just fine for me.
@cloud50006 I thought it was fun, but it could've been a million times better, the ambiance, the combat, the story, everything was better in the second game I felt. Just my opinion though, monolith better come back for the fourth one, cause then they'll be great again.
What kind of BS is this? How is this not coming to the Colecovision?! These big game companies have no idea what the people want. Seriously Mark, you always put the most ill fitting music to videos, and it's awesome.
@LongShankz2009 no it's his voice. it's awesome and I liked his review no need to bash someone for how they speak. if u can undestand them then it doesn't mater.
fear is my favorite game cause it is veeeeeeeeery splater and veeeeeeeeeery scary.. it is the first game which made me pause the game to drink water and relax...
I like your review. You have a very chill voice and speak at times that give me a chance to enjoy and analyze the gameplay on the screen. Plus, you just get right to the points.
not sure why but the intro is one of the best ive seen on youtube
I love your reviews man!
One the best first person shooters/horror games on the last gen, and for some reason I played it in 2016 for the first time, wtf!!!
Russian Bear me too, ive just decided to buy it... sold a bunch of xb1 and ps4 games i had lying around that i had barely played because i got bored with them after 2 hours and bought rhis and some other ps3 games i hadnt gotten around to playing and Im not dissapointed
Mark review Manhunt 1, i think you will like it, its not just poitless gore.
Why am I watching this when it's 10 PM and I have school tomorrow? LOL
I'll watch this tomorrow.
I’m here from the year 2022 and CGR still has better reviews
I miss this show.
Good revue, just rented it and gonna try it tonight. I loved Dead Space soo much I played it twice!! The 2nd time three beers deep with only the maxed out plasma cutter and the white armor. It was a riot! I hope they make a sequel.
Oh my goooood GOD!!!! You use power director!!! I recognise that font!!!!
A console game with a high FOV. Love it
@afi567x Have you ever played bioshock? @IanCooked What games that "screws with your head" would you suggest then...?
you get over that sort of thing pretty quick in my experience. especially the second playthrough.
i played the demo and THAT was scary
awesome vid
I'll definitely put this on my "to-do" list. I really liked the first FEAR, but a lot of people didn't. Most of those same people say they like this one more, so that sounds like I would surely like this one as well.

There's a lot of scary scenes just like the first one. The corridor scene at the school is creepy and priceless *.*
You have a good argument I think seeing as in F.E.A.R. one had scary elements like climbing through vents with alma appearing out of nowhere spider crawling toward you and flashlight batteries dying, but F.E.A.R. 2 expanded by breaking out of office spaces and going into creepy hospitals and schools. should i get this game for 360 or PC?
is there any more DLC or any cool mods in the PC version not in the 360 version?

Great review Mark!
this is one of my all time favorite games

My favorite gaming review channel.
No Colecovision version? I guess I'm out of luck D:
just finished fear 2 and it was really, really good.absolute quality game.worth every penny
is InecomCompany the same people as classic game room?
cause iff they are they have fear 2 review and fear2: project origin review part 1 and 2...
hey Mark you should review F.E.A.R q also the collico version of this game has been cancelled but is being released on the Sega Genises this june
I'm pretty sure you're talking about Condemned Criminal Origins, because I saw a trailer of it which had exactly what you're saying.
Im not sure if im the only one who suggested this game, but i see Mark has taken my suggestion in trying this game :D. Like I said though...Im prolly not the only one that recommended it to him..

Do you think this and fear 1 is scarier than dead space. Or vice versa or about the same, but different.
I found that FEAR 1 was creepy and capitalized when you were creeped out by doing that freaky shit with Alma, however, 2 just seemed to creep you out and never try to scare you

A huge criticism I have with Classic Game Room is when Mark reviews the second game in the series before trying out the first.
I love it when I gave this game to my friends, then watched them try to shoot Alma :p
I made myself play F.E.A.R before installing this (on pc). There are a few things that they have removed, such as quicksave and the leaning functionality, but as a continuation to the story started in the first game, this really is good.
Can you imagine a ColecoVision version? Awesome.
No words about a Colecovision version yet?! Not fair!!!!
Are there still plenty of matches to find online ???
This is one of my favorite shooters.
I definitely recommend the Dead Space series, I have not played the others yet though. But I've beaten both of the Dead Space games, and they are incredible.

fatroc33 You don't have to but it helps to understand the story. I didn't play the first before I played this though and still really enjoyed it.

I just beat Bioshock 2 and now I wanna play this!
this game on the hardest difficulty was... so... perfect.. the ai is very very good.. the gun play is delicious... and yeah... I've beaten this game on every difficulty and I keep coming back for more.. yum... great game
Ah yes after so many years i finally found the correct one
the way I see it FEAR 1 was the asian horror movie popularised in the late 90s and FEAR 2 was the hollywood remake. An excellent remake mind you I'm not complain it was just much bigger budget, more action, less tense but still a great action game with a few scares
I will be getting Fallout 3 before picking this game up. Fallout 3 just looks like a bigger epic game overall. This game does look pretty sic though.
This game is better than i thought. I have always been disappointed with Sierras modern releases. This is a very solid FPS. Any sign of Fear 4?
I played the demo of the FEAR 2... On PS3, it was kind of cool. Got reallllyy creepy in the school though. And when my uhh squad mate guy or some guy from a different squard, comes around the corner and melees me, and suddenly there was that huge implosion from around the corner... and then things just got a lil nerve racking...
I was literally wide eyed.
O.O
4:10 the zombie is yelling "DOCTOR OCTOGONAPUS!"
I've beat this game like 3 times! I love it, and the online is cool. =P
I played this game with Surround Sound Headphones!!! Scared the living shit out of me!
Great Game!
agreed...
that end cinematic of dead space is fucking sick XD
HD remaster coming to the Colecovision this year!
I never found any of the fear games to be very scarey. They do have their little creepy moments, but fr the most part their just solid FPSs
how many hours would you say this game would take to play trough?
shooting zombies wyth slow motion...what is cooler than that?
@213MeXiCaN714
1. The game is fairly long.
2. As an FPS, this game is ok. The controls, bullet power, variety of weapons etc is solid, so glitchy stuff won't frustrate you, but it's not stunning either.

a few jump-scares here, some oppressive atmosphere there, some disturbing images over there. Yeah i agree but it was a damn good game
The first game was even better, but this one is also good
This game kind of overlaps the old game.

i honestly recommend this game to everyone. one of the best first person shooters ive played.
How many hours is the campaign ?
Ah The Island. What a great movie.
To be honest, the weapons and weaponanimations from FEAR 2 in FEAR 1 - would have been the perfect horror fps.
And FEAR 2 has more instant scares, that is ok - but doesn't really scare me..
FEAR 1 has mindfuck - enough said.

im glad you said dead space :)
F.E.A.R files, makes this game look family friendly.
I thought the first one was better. I really didn't find FEAR 2 to be scary at all. I love the game, I just think it could have been better.
@cloud50006 I thought it was fun, but it could've been a million times better, the ambiance, the combat, the story, everything was better in the second game I felt. Just my opinion though, monolith better come back for the fourth one, cause then they'll be great again.
Been looking for a good scary game since The Suffering nothing has filled the gap. Loved Bioshock but it didnt have the creepiness.
this or dead spce?? cuz i got a great deal if i get re5 and another game...so which one?!?
graphics look AWESOME for 2009 :D
This is the game I would play if I were able to get through the start screen in Doom 3. Which I can't
well this game is 10X scarier than fear 1! like the scene when your in the school and your being chased by a ghost
you should play f.e.a.r. 1 when i played that on the pc when it came out it was the game of the year
What kind of BS is this? How is this not coming to the Colecovision?! These big game companies have no idea what the people want.
Seriously Mark, you always put the most ill fitting music to videos, and it's awesome.
@LongShankz2009 no it's his voice. it's awesome and I liked his review no need to bash someone for how they speak. if u can undestand them then it doesn't mater.
Is it worth buying this game?
fear is my favorite game cause it is veeeeeeeeery splater and veeeeeeeeeery scary.. it is the first game which made me pause the game to drink water and relax...
