Regarding the enemies respawning at checkpoints the flip side of that is that in Far Cry 3 and 4 after you have taken all the outposts enemy presence is vastly reduced and in fact it can get quite boring. Plus it doesn't make any sense that they are still driving about with no bases ! In FC4 they try to retake the Outposts but whether you go back to help or not, they are never retaken.
I bought this game right when it came out and was very impressed with the gunplay and the tech. What I hated about it was the near constant Jeep ambushes, gun degradation, having to fix your vehicle and that damned Malaria mechanic. Other than that, I can't recall any other major complaints. It's a good game overall and I plan to play it again. Memories. :'(

The bought weapons jam far less (happened to me once during my 2 hr run) and you can buy reliability upgrade for your favorite guns for couple of diamonds. Also, replace your weapon each time you are near a shop. People should really learn to play games, before commenting on them. Makes you look ignorant.
123doomdoom I put 12 hours into the game and compared to Far Cry 3, which is far less repetitive and dull in my opinion (and even it got old after not too long), I had a lot less fun
The ONLY thing that i felt that had disappeared from far cry 1 was the weapon fighting, aiming etc. Huge far cry fan, just got a new laptop and I'm playing the game as we speak...one word..FANTASTIC, the game is a masterpiece, if you're only keen on modern warfare with rush like battles then the game is not for you, but if you enjoy exploration, ambushing, different ways of fighting and just simple mind-blowing surrounding then give this game a try, It's a damn orgasm.
it would be good that when you clear out a guard post the AI from a nearby town sends other men to repair and establish a new guard post and that they repair it in real time(like carrying the weapons and sandbags for defenses and then planting them etc.)
I love this game theres so much freedom in it. you can go in guns blazing with any kind of loadout or scout your targets are and plan your attack... and theres no time pressure you can really just go do whatever(and get shot at of course)
Personally, I liked Far Cry 3 a lot more. While I had it with 3 later on, I got tired of Far Cary 2 really quickly. You constantly get chased by enemies in the middle of nowhere and it just seemed like a bland world.

I bought this game a good while ago (Happy 10th anniversary Far Cry 2 btw) and for some reason I still come back and enjoy it and I can't really place why. Its generic and the story is forgettable. The shooting is fun, but that can be said of so many other games too. The best I can say that its very much a make-it-your-own experience. There's no magic powers, super set piece moments, what you do in the game is what you did, not something pre-done. And I think because of that its very immersive. Also hunting for diamonds is super fun!
I have to disagree. When it first came out, I was very interested in buying it. I decided to rent it first just to be sure because I had mixed feelings about it. At the end I was so glad that I made the decision on renting than buying. This game gets so repetitive quick. The long drives are extremely annoying.

The physics is what makes this game...without the wind, weather, and fire effects, this game wouldn't have been as good. The day and night cycle in this game is pretty neat too. Some people may think the day/night cycle is too long, but to me its just right. Its way too short in a lot of other games.
i love this game. i wish there were a lot more like it. loved the fact that u could play how u want to when u want to. while somethings did frustrate me and make me want to break it sometimes, the overall fun i had with it makes it one of my favorite games of all time.

Yeah I think so too...FC 3 looks like its going to be much better, and I think the world will be a lot more open than in FC 2. FC 3 really reminds me of FC 1 on PC. At least I'm hoping it can live up to that game.

once i was hunting zebras in havana and suddenly i heard a motor sound and then a car ran me over ..... i was the prey ... it was the hunter ... well played random spawn :D
One time I was on a bridge and there were zebras every where. I shot one as I got out of my Jeep, and they scattered. One ran into my completely stationary Jeep, and actually died. It was hysterical...
On the PC version the AI always responded to you, they'd spread out and hunt you, the only time they wouldn't is if you were squatted behind some bushes and sniped them out. I dunno if it was a difference or the month I've been playing other things made me forget. But I remember they were pretty smart.
Too bad that there are technical gameplay negatives like enemy AI and in game snags like previous checkpoints resetting themselves. Its those quality issues that would dissuade me from buying this even at second hand prices when there are shooters out there that don't have those issues. 10/10 of for graphics though. I liked watching my friend play it on the PC.
When I upgraded my pc I got this game with my geforce gtx 285. Killer graphics, decent gameplay. I would recommend the pc version if you have the horsepower, it'll look better than the console versions.

They are psychic cause you can't sneak and take them on with a knife, you kill a person with a knife, and its like you fired an RPG, everyone starts coming at you xD... But all in all, the game is quite fun :D... Play it on hardcore or HARDER, and it will be real survival ... Play it on normal or easy, it will be a cake walk :D...
I play it on PC so walking isn't even an option for me, but most importantly, stay out of sight! And if you want to take a man out, wait until he is out of audio range of his friends. They take a piss, or wander off to have a smoke, for example. Get em then, so nobody hears you kill him. Even a silenced pistol makes a little bit of noise. Get out of the area, because they might find the body. My word, but the stealth in this game is realistic and immersive af. Incomparable.
Its a long game but a very dynamic and realistic game with the gun jamming. I have 40 hrs poured and im not done yet. But im trying to get EVERYTHING done. An excellent game.
This game/game engine was amazing, and the scenery was great, but it was the little things about this game that drove me nuts. As much as I loved the sheer scale and beauty, I wish there had been a lot less time driving around, and some of the AI aspects were infuriating. Mark said they were oblivious, but the AI when I played was omniscient, and could spot me in the bushes a half mile away, while also able to hit me consistently with shotguns at that same distance.
@KALIBREKILLER That's really enlightening. Having no real-life experience, I felt the respawning in this game was annoying because it was unrealistic, but if I'd read your post before I'd played this game I might have kept going with it.
Main Faults with Far Cry 2: 1. Malaria is overdone 2. Respawning enemy camps - should have been like unlockable safe-houses 3. Shooting an enemy in his bare chest has zero effect 4. Rusted guns jamming 5. Enemies have X-Ray vision, so you can't hide in the long grass 6. Far too many armoured jeep patrols 7. Can't keep any extra weapons in your jeep 8. Map doesn't rotate 9. The faction you work for shoots you just as much as the enemy - i.e. no "colours" 10. No way to save "in the field"

It saves after you complete or during a mission... I just save at a safe house, or ask a buddy to back me up... If your patient you'll be fine.. I bought this game again off Marketplace (XBOX360) - and have to say the 1st time I owned the game, I was like you, but now I use the buses where I can.. If you have the patience, this game is SO good, the AI is impreassive, they will help their mates who are shot and try and carry them to safety etc...

@Aspartan3 I fully acknowledge that I haven't given the game a totally fair chance, but it's not the AI that bothers me. Rather it's the relentless tedium of doing basically the same thing for every mission, not helped by a story that's as thin as they come. Good shooting or a good story can save a game by itself, but when neither are present...
This game is incredible. At first i didnt really like it, but once i got used to the AI and the Game World, along with all the driving and traveling, I can't stop playing it. I love the fire mechanic and traveling by water to avoid the roads. You have to play this game like you would in real life, instead of just running in guns blazing. I dont like how the enemies can see you through the Brush like it wasn't even there. Play this game on Hard Core or else the AI is hit or miss. 8/10 for FC2!
@360FireFallen It is because it looks natural. Games like call of duty only look good because there is alot of clutter everywhere. In this game it looks very realistic. No exploded buildings or set pieces.
I do not like the Far Cry franchise. I generally do not play FPS games at all. Far Cry 2 is, by far, my favorite game ever made. If you can overlook its flaws, which exist but are minor, it is the most immersive open-world stealth desperation simulator you can possibly play.
i played this for 20+ hours before i even ponderd the idea of putting it down. this is the type of game that i could play all the way through, put it down for 2-3 months then play it all the way through again, maybe on a harder difficulty, this game should not be overlooked by any gamer, exellent gameplay, good control scheme, exellent sound and sfx, medium-high replay value, overall 9/10.. rent if not buy you wont regret either!!
As i am a Huge Farcry Fan i was kinda disapointed in this in the fact that it had nothing to do with the original farcry series. No Jack Carver :(. But i still love it
This is an amazing game. The AI is quite clever in fact and the game is full of challenging firefights. The downside is story pacing, as there is no plot reasoning when encountering soldiers as they always shoot first at check points. I would be nice to travel with papers or have a mission to pass check points without firefights as the destination mission results in a firefight!!!!
Yesh, the solders felt weird. on one hand, they can be cleaver but at other times they seem to be dumber then a box of rocks. Also, I felt as though they forgot to put a faction system in the game.

Grenades were overpowered vs. vehicles. If it had FC4's civilian, animal and faction skirmishes it would have been perfect enough.

I think this game needs to get remade with improvements to a.i and maybe some more side misions and a better faction system.

The A.I seems to be great at hunting you out and sniping you from 100 miles away but once you in close range they seem to just give up on life.

Any game where the protagonist doesn't have an asthma attack whenever he looks into a sniper scope is good in my books.

Yesh, the solders felt weird. on one hand, they can be cleaver but at other times they seem to be dumber then a box of rocks. Also, I felt as though they forgot to put a faction system in the game.

about the gaurd posts, i think there should be a timer on show long it takes to be rebuilt , maybe like 30mins of gameplay to be rebiult,

Yes get the VGA adapter, but you'll need separate speakers
