Neither car owner was car jacked, that's the whole point; this was a property theft. The perp never assaulted or attempted to assault the woman, only to steal the car (according to the Sheriff). FL law is clear about the reasons for deadly force, and this was not one of them.

The report should stick the questions about the incident and investigation without saying how "they feel" on the matter. I feel the reporter should of been removed because they were ignorant on FL statutes and the wording on their question could create the wrong message, which could jeopardize the safety of the citizens of his county. its insane that people in this thread believe that if you see someone trying to break into your car in the parking lot, somehow you're legally allowed to walk up and shoot him in the head. the sheriff's response to the question is that "he'd already committed a string of felonies." thats an awful answer because in this context the shooter would have no idea about that. in self defense, you're always supposed to shoot to kill. i highly doubt many judges would rule in the favor of someone who walked up and shot a guy in the head for trying to break into his car

Neither car owner was car jacked, that's the whole point; this was a property theft. The perp never assaulted or attempted to assault the woman, only to steal the car (according to the Sheriff). FL law is clear about the reasons for deadly force, and this was not one of them.
