    Just subscribed from Central Oregon, I can't tell you how nice it is to watch your videos and not have all these empty promises just to get numbers on the video! You share your info and knowledge which is greatly appreciated for a guy like me that just wants to learn and respects what you guys know and share about race engines as well as general information, so thank you gents and keep these videos comin!

      agreed. i prefer more simple videos like this with no movement. alot of info right into the camera on a tripod is great with no distractions. i also agree with the machined 8.3 oil pump. seems like a really nice upgrade. hopefully it stays together under load.

    As a gas engine builder/racer I am just in awe!! I respect the hell out of you diesel guys. The size of those components are absolutely huge. I saw your engine explode on that 1/8 mile pass when your engine stop malfunctioned. To see such massive weight reciprocating assembly revved to 8 grand when it came apart is a testament to yalls build quality. Gas engines with lightweight components have many failures below that rpm The diesel world has exceeded all other engine platforms in making something that theoretically would seem impossible, possible. Hats off to yall.

      $10,000 bucks easy in engine parts alone. Then paying someone to assemble it, then the fuel system, then exhaust and fabrication work, then driveline parts, then electronics to control it all. Now your up to $20,000 bucks on the low end of cost..

  • @sidecarbod1441
    @sidecarbod1441 6 років тому

    Just come across your vids, they are very good! I'm surprised that you think that the rod bolts are placed under a tensile load as the piston reaches TDC because there must be a hell of a lot of gas pressure on the piston pushing the piston and rod back down the bore. I could understand that the rod bolts are under load when the engine is on over run but even then the gas pressure must be pretty high.

    • @sidecarbod1441
      @sidecarbod1441 6 років тому

      Fair enough you are right, on the exhaust stroke there will be a lot less pressure above the pistons although a suppose there will be still some pressure especially as you have a turbos creating some back pressure.

  • @groomlake51

    Is the 12 valve the ideal head because of strength ? Or does it also have to do with low lift flow characteristics and curtain area of 1 big valve vrs 2 smaller valves with the same area?

    • @groomlake51

      PowerDrivenDiesel it’s cool to see a lot of the technology of our sport start to trickle over to you compression ignition dudes. Are shop is next door to Fleece. They are smart dudes. It’s crazy how much power you diesel guys make. I run a lot of alky hemi motors on the dyno. It was built by Dale Armstrong for Kenny and the Budweiser King team. It’s a navel ship dyno he converted. Rated to 5,500 lbs/ft. They used to run Fuel motors on it in the late 80s but now we just run alcohol engines on it because it can’t handle 8,000-9,000 lbs/ft a nitro motor makes now days. I know just how hard it is to make 2,500-3,500 ponies. To see cummins engines make that now is unreal!!! I fly in to the races but during the week I work as a engineer at BMEltd. We make pretty mean 14& 16/71 Roots blowers. I always get calls about trying to put are Top Fuel Rods in a diesel... but I’m
      Still waiting for some one that wants a blower🤣

    • @groomlake51
      @groomlake51 5 років тому

      PowerDrivenDiesel do you understand what I’m saying about “ curtain area”? And how 1 big valve flows a ton better at low lift off the valve seat than 2 smaller valves. Are engines make 11,000 hp with 2 valves and only 500 cubic inches. I’m pretty sure a lot of pulling guys are using are inconel valves now on the exhaust and intake. Why not run a Ti valve on the intake? It can’t be EGT because nitro runs a lot hotter. But are intake is a lot bigger than the exhaust so the weight helps. How much spring pressure at installed height do you have to run making 150psi🤣 we only make 70 psi but the back of the valve has almost 3 square inches of area. We used to run 300lbs on the seat. Then dell one say did the math and with 70 pounds of boost on the back of the intake valve the dynamic spring pressure was only like 120-130lbs and that’s why we where floating the valve. I have a 5.9 and they have little girly springs. With a 12 valve head with a big intake and 100 psi of boost I bet there’s a ton to seat pressure on the intake to get it to close. We now run 700-750 on the seat. Around 1300 over the nose💪🏼🚀

  • @williamloewenhagen7784
    @williamloewenhagen7784 6 років тому

    You guys said you run a 6.7 block. Do you sleeve the engine and then make it back into a 5.9? Another question is do you have alot of blow by. From what I have learned about tractor pulling is that that hone out the engine to have lots of blow but to compensate for all the boost.

    A couple questions...
    What cam bearings did you use? Since you obviously opened up the cam bore diameter. And since the stock only uses the front and back bearings did you opt for a roller bearing? 200 lbs of seat pressure is alot.

    Your cummins wrist pin is about twice the size of a nitro wrist pin. We use a taper wall wrist pin in Nitro motors like most all other drag racing engines. There’s twice the surface area in the pistons pin boss towers compared to the little end of the connecting rod. Because there’s twice as much more surface area a taper wall pin is ideal. I worked as a engineer and planer @ BMEltd is I had a dollar for every diesel guy calling to ask about using top fuel rods on diesel motors I would be rich. It’s crazy how manny misconceptions there are because magazines. I will say that Fleece performance is a bunch of great guys. There shop is next to my teams shop in Brownsburg. The only diesel truck I've owned was a 1982 chevy w/ the 6.2l. I was being a smart guy 1 day and going as fast as the truck would go (about 100 mph). Well the crank broke at that speed, made one hell of a noise, bye bye engine.
