To be fair, Lohan's English accent is a thousand times better than Keanu Reeves's English accent.
Nathaniel Levesque there's nothing though that's called "english" or "british" accent.
Hulla Baloo I know what you mean, basically every british city has it's own accent, but there is that typical "british" accent that people imagine when you say british, that's what people mean most of the time
Jacob Gutierrez that was out of left field.
Nathaniel Levesque Yeah but hardly anyone speaks like that
Btw Keanu Reeves accents is in the first video.. They even said that if you didn't find the accents you thought should be on the list, you should go check out the first video...
Jodie Foster in Elysium is what it looks like when an actor has made it to legendary status and no longer gives a fuck.
Was Lindsey Lohan's accent bad?? It sounded pretty decent to me...
You're serious?
1rkhachatryan Same. It was touchy in places, but she's just a kid. It's forgivable. She sounded like the posh little girl she was aiming for.
So did I! Didn't think it wasn't bad at all :o (English btw, don't know about you)
Dark Samus Ya, why??
MrzPicatu I'm American. She sounded as convincing as her mom and butler who I'm assuming might be English but idk.
Lindsay Lohen's English upper (middle) class accent is actually pretty good. Anne Hathaway's honourable mention on the other hand is atrocious.
Yeah, hers is one of the worst I've heard.
spl ash it's dreadful. Should have just dropped the British element from the movie.
The Lindsay Lohan one was unfair, there are plenty of worse attempts. She did pretty good for a kid!
I thought so too
Anne Hathaway's British accent was worse than Lindsay Lohan's
The most painful one for me was in a Fast and Furious movie, the one in Brazil - there were brazilian characters, speaking portuguese, that I couldn't understand at all. You know shit is bad when your mother tongue is unrecogniseable.
Dude holy shit I know it was aweful to watch that their accents were fucking ridiculous like how hard is it to get actually Brasilian actors
pamyp21 Funny, because those were actually actors of Brazilian descent. Okay, perhaps Portuguese more like it. Some from Latin and Spanish descent.
Concordo, parecia espanhol
pamyp21 You have them going into a police station without knowing a thing of Portuguese, and I am talking about Tego Calderon and Don Omar. Well.... and the physics and stuff with the rest. Every police officer was bad and so on...
Bruno Glauzer não, isso não parecia espanhol cara. Para nada, vi las peliculas, y eso era cualquier cosa menos portugués o español. :P
Uh, wasn't Lindsay Lohan PRAISED for her accent at the time? Those with finer ears than mine say than she's actually doing four accents: American, English, English pretending to American, and American pretending to be English. Supposedly if you listen closely you can hear the distinction.
Oh, and when my senior anatomy class watched "Lorenzo's Oil" we were all rolling at Nick Nolte.
Ok, so Lindsay Lohan's accent was pretty damn good for starters! I've seen adults try and do British and fail considerably more than hers. Angelina's is pretty good too, she has the right inflections.... she's just from the wrong area completely :P
Also Lindsay is Boneable now. Who can be upset with such a Tart.
Agreed. This list is very stupid. Lohan's accent was amazing for her age. Far better than most I've heard by American adult actors.
Hannah Forster Lindsay did do pretty well for age and for a first time. Plus playing twins and switching between the accents couldn't have been easy.
Brittany Rose I agree. I think Lyndsay did remarkably well.
I've got a painfully good ear for accents, and sometimes abandon watching something if it's too bad; Don Cheadle in Ocean's whatever, and Daphne Moon's 'English' brothers in Frasier, all of them with different accents, none of which are remotely English. So I braced myself for the nails-on-a-chalkboard torture, that would be L Lohan's performance... Only to be pleasantly surprised, that she did much better than most adult actors I've heard doing it.
She's only an honorable mention, but Anne Hathaway gets the award for mist annoying accent in movie. Every time she spoke One Day I cringed. She owes an apology to every citizen of Yorkshire for that atrocity. I'm not even British and I felt offended.
She was trying to a Yorkshire accent ? From the clips I have seen I thought she was doing an ok posh London accent.
simone robson agreed, I had no idea it was Yorkshire
honoshikun Hathaway is super overrated. That proves it.
I'm from Yorkshire and yeah, my head was in my hands when I heard her speak...
Chris Robinson She should sound like Nora Batty and fails.
Morgan Freeman as Morgan Freeman was pretty terrible
Not funny shut up
CaptainBelgium Morgan Freeman in "Robin Hood"
He was better as Morgan Freeman
Settle down man +ThePieKingMC
CaptainBelgium Morgan Freeman may be the most overrated actor of all time.
Tarantino sounds like a South African
Aadil Saleh Lol..It's a hard accent to pull of intentionally for most people as the patterns seem all over the place.Harder than most British accents or an Australian accent
I'm Australian, and Tarantino having an Aussie accent in Django made me want to cry... after I finished laughing. Great at filmmaking, crap at acting!
***** Oh piss off LOL!!! The funniest thing was that he was actually acting BESIDE an Australian actor in that scene (John Jarrett from Wolf Creek) and he STILL couldn't get it right!!!
Johnny Skinwalker I don't know whether to be insulted or intrigued by that comment! I never thought about it that way, but I don't really think my accent is as thick as Sharlto Copley's LOL!!!
South Africans don't sound like that all.
Lindsay Lohan's English accent is good.
Haha, you're funny
My drunk uncle does a better posh accent.I know she was only a child but still.
ChristmasTrax You've never heard an englishman talk then
Agreed
ChristmasTrax it's not though. nobody speaks like that in England, anywhere in england.
Anyone who isn't Australian trying to do an Australian accent. Done.
Cameron Morr So, you are saying Meryl Streep accents in a Cry in The Dark were bad?
Brian Fantana Wouldn't know, I've never seen it. Or heard of it.
What about Robert Downey jr in tropic thunder!
Cameron Morr Kate Winslet had a great Australian accent in Holy Smoke. She was more Australian-sounding than Nicole Kidman
In natural born killers Robert Downey jr was good
I think it's up to British people to decide if a British accent is bad or not
Oh come on, really? Lindsay Lohan? I don't think that's fair - she was a kid then! What huge project did you complete at that age without having any flaws?
That's just mean. You shouldn't include kids in lists like this.
(I checked the 1st video) How about Dick Van Dyke in "Mary Poppins"?
WWChampion16 I think he was in the first though, at #2 I believe.
Metalchick721 You're right, my mistake. Though he's
WWChampion16 thou shall not insult Dick Van Dyke infront of me
#3-If Rainbow checked the first video, then Rainbow's brain must have checked out during the video
Elizabeth Olsen in Avengers Age of Ultron
jeez that was bad
doody magoob Not to mention Quicksilver's atrocious accent as well.
That should've been number 1
Julian Cavazos their accents were awesome!
***** no I genuinely like their accents
doody magoob Weirdly but I like that accents too.
Lindsay Lohan and Forrest Whitaker's accents didn't sound bad to me.
is there a top 10 best movie accents?
Top 10 sexiest accents and top 10 actors who can pull off foreign accents
Tyler Durden that's what I was saying
Alex Spec No point - they'd all be Meryl Streep.
If there would be they should include Tom Hardy in Locke. Fucking love his accent in that
Alex Spec two words: Gary Oldman
Nothing youve said here explains how appauling Joe Peschis wig is...
Or his eyebrows.
Wait until you see Joseph Gordon Lewit play a French character in the next zemeckis movie
Bigmathnow Yeah, his accent doesn't sound good in the trailers.
That accent in #4 was supposed to be Italian? o.O
That accent sounded more like a very raspy fake German accent to me.
Anne Dugan Reminded me of Tommy Wiseau's inimitable accent
Anne Dugan italia did stole some part of Austria. you know South Tyrol
Anne Dugan that accent was supposed to sound like the real Augusto Odone. Who wasn't a cheap italian stereotype, but a real person coming from northern italy, whose accent doesn't sound AT ALL like the typical italian you find in movies.
I thought that Nolte sounded more Russian than Arnold's attempted Russian @ #1!
Just proves that whilst British actors are pretty awesome at doing American accents, it doesn't work well vice versa
It's a simple accent...........shots fired
mk6rfc1 American accent(in most states) is much easier and free flowing..Not that hard to do
mk6rfc1 Watch the Doctor Who episode Daleks in Manhattan and you will hear some terrible New York accents.
Well that's one episode of a tv show before Americans were into it (plus Andrew Garfield is in it and his accent his fine but of course cos he's half British half american) but I sorta meant in movies - there's so many examples of British actors playing American characters convincingly
Obviously.British actors in America hear the accent they have to do a lot and they grew up watching movies and tv shows with American accents.American actors don't have that experience.
Haha, Joe Pesci completely forgot the accent.
You forgot Hallie Berry in the first X-Men. Yeshh that was horrible 😖
Lindsay Lohan wasn't bad at all, considering she was a child.
Brad Pitt has done some real shit accents.
Robert Drangus This is just my humble opinion, but he *almost* destroyed Inglourious Basterds for me. What a sad sack of shit accent Brad Pitt had there, he was great in Snatch though.
Surge_Cess Too bad he didn't get to ZZZZHATUAAAP, and go climb da'heemaLIEEEyaaas in that movie huh? lol (AKA Pitt in Seven Years In Tibet)
***** You disagree that he was great in Snatch? How dare you.
*****
Owned by the Jesus lol :)
+Surge-Cess The Inglorious Basterds one was intentionally bad, they said they wouldn't mention those.
Yeah, people don't get Jodie Foster's accent in Elysium because what she's doing is rare. It's a South African accent. Which, given Neill Blomkamp was the director and is from South Africa, means she's probably doing it on director's orders.
That’s not South African lmao
That's not South African at all. She originally did a weird French accent in the film, then they had to do ADR over it to replace it with what you hear in the film.
Elizabeth Olsen's accent in Age of Ultron was cringeworthy
Isn't her character from a fictional country? If so, I'd say it was pretty good.
Ionlymadethistoleavecoments Well they are from Sokovia, so the accents are whatever they want. Can't really judge a fictional accent.
So really... it was perfect. And obviously not cringeworthy, cause that word is so overused it doesn't even mean the same shit it used to anymore.
***** Elizabeth Olsen doesn't have an accent... is that a joke or?
***** Yeah I watched some videos and I don't see an accent.
Unless you mean an American accent.. to which she definitely has.
When she remembered to use it
You want bad accent?
just listen to the girl narrator in this video trying to say "celine dion"
alanboro *LOL*, so true
you can't go anywhere with this joke. these actors are trying an accent, she's not.
Tarantino isn't an actor, they put him in the list
"trying an accent" shes not trying an accent its her own
As a Brit, I can tell you that Lindsay Lohan`s English accent was fantastic, particularly given how young she was at the time she made the film.Forest Whitakers was awful though.
And Keanu Reeves from the other list? (shuddering)
Maybe Mojo just likes picking on kids!
I don't mind Jodie Foster's weird futuristic accent. It is the future so who's to say what accents will be like. After all, the various English accents are vastly different from what they were 60-70 years ago.
If future accents sound like than, then I don't want to live in the future. It was god-awful and just downright cringeworthy.
Solarstar10 A lot of current accents are hideous
Solarstar10 are you mad? I do not believe I had said you were trying to be creative I just said have some variety. Say cringeworthy out loud and tell me you don't piss yourself off. And if I said have variety how would that make you an "original genius"?
Saying cringeworthy out loud does not piss me off. You'd have to be an oversensitive cry baby to get pissed off over the word Cringeworthy.
Solarstar10 you should know that throwing a tantrum does not help your case, sir. Like the word cringeworthy just sounds douchy. But then again you are a douche so I can see why you wouldn't want any variety
As an English person I am confirming that Lindsay Lohan's accent was not bad.
i swear tarantino was just taking the piss.
Yeah I assumed as it was such a small role, he was hamming it up on purpose.
Love Tom Hardy but what was up with his accent in Mad Max: Fury Road, a lot of the accents in that film were shaky tbh even if the film was really good
mk6rfc1 He was good in Dark Knight.
DashingNative Shame we couldn't understand him.
mk6rfc1 I thought that too! His accent in the voice over at the start was pretty acceptable, but it just went downhill from there.
mk6rfc1 What do you think a fitting accent in wasteland place out of nowhere then?
mk6rfc1 In fairness, Hardy had, what..all of 20 words total in that film?
Anyone trying to do a kiwi accent.... please just STOP. You wont get it right
Kiwi
Anthony Hopkins does a good NZ accent. It's when NZ Actors do American accents it sounds horrible haha Jay Ryan, love him but his accent sucks in Beauty & the beast
MsRainbow Brite I can listen to Karl Urban speak in his native NZ accent all day long....:-)
Roimata Hooper I heard that about Anthony but I still think it was shit. Melanie Lynskey can do a great American accent. When she went to audition for Coyote Ugly, the director thought she was native of America
I totally forgot about Melanie, yes she has a great accent. I forget she's from here lol and Karl Urban also does too. Anthony Hopkins did a great job I think. I Hate how people think our accent sounds Australian 😑 lol
Why the hell would anyone want Arnie to sound like anything but Arnie...
Arnie sounds like Arnie, nothing more is required.
I wonder if Miley tonged his balls yet?
fosters accent ruined the character for me.. though having a french accent can be hard to do.... i was even more disappointed considering she speaks french in real life very fluently.
So how many of them are Nicolas Cage again?
What's brown and sticky ?
Hoo-dini
ConnorTheGamer darn. i thought it was a stick...
Hoo-Dini
What's an owls preferred pasta. Hoo-Dini!
what's black, blue, and red all over?
hoo-dini!
ConnorTheGamer CAN SOMEONE TELL ME WHAT STARTED THIS HOODINI MEME?!
Shannon Elizabeth is just a terrible actress is general. Ever see her in That 70s Show? She's awful.
twins1729 She gets hired for two reasons and neither of them are for her acting.
twins1729 She gets hired for two reasons and neither of them are for her acting.
twins1729 Well that explains why she hasn't don anything noticeable, since the first film.
As a British person I can tell you the Parent Trap accent was actually pretty good - very posh.
Another cool video by WatchMojo! by the way thank you for the videos guys, awesome stuff and I am sure hard work to make them, its always fun to see you have a new video up, keep the good work :) hugs to you guys!
London calling.....Yep Lindsay did well with that clipped Southern British, which makes me think WM has a tin ear for accents.
LiLo 1 Mojo 0
Hers was 1,000X better than Cage's and Reeves' accent COMBINED!
I always thought Tarantino was trying to do a South African accent...
That's the accent that Foster was doing.
Cameron Diaz - Gangs of New York,
Jennifer Lawrence - Red Sparrow.
How do you Soviets deal with tension?
"Vodka"
With that line alone, it makes me want to watch the damn movie.
How have you overlooked Sean Bean's horrible "American accent" in Silent Hill 2?
It's pretty easy to overlook Silent Hill 2
i don't remember him even in Silent hill 2.
i think you're thinking of the first one in which Australian actress Rhada mitchel played the lead and had a cery convincing American accent.
Every actor who ever played an Irishman that wasn't Irish. It's rare I hear a decent accent. They're all so terribly stereotypical.
***** His accent was probably one of the best I've heard, but I'd say it would be easier for him to do because he's Scottish. Scottish and Irish is similar enough to be adapted into one another by a good actor. Norman Reedus is a good example of a badly done Irish accent, in The Boondock Saints. It's overdone to the point that it's cringeworthy. Yes, I'm Irish myself, though I'm of the North of Ireland. Northern Irish accents are even more cringeworthy when done by non-Irish actors, but you hear it less than you do the Southern accents.
***** See, there's even at least two types of Dublin accent, North and South. The accent people tend to put on when acting an Irishman tends to be a hybrid of the two and Donegal. Yeah, it's actually quite surprising that he wasn't very good at the Scottish accent, as Neeson is a Ballymena man. Ballymena accents are actually quite similar to the usual Scottish accent you tend to hear. In fact, there's a guy who I work with from Ballymena and he gets confused as a Scotsman himself. Liam Neeson tones down his accent, and it has become a much more neutral Northern Irish accent over the years, but Ballymena accents tend to be quite exaggerated.
Up the Irish Republican Army ye cunts
+Andrew Ryan I guess you never saw "The Devil's Own"
Frosted Lucky Charms, They're magically delicious!
Watch Mojo said it themselves. In "Elysium" Jodie Foster was doing a futuristic mixed accent. It wasn't meant to sound like an accent heard today. Speaking in a made up accent takes more acting skill than simply copying a real accessible accent.
When Tarantino said "shut up, black" it sounded like a very convincing South African accent.
6:20 My physics teacher actually sounded like that lmao
to be fair, Whitaker's English accent is at least decent
Nooooooooooooo! He's trying to sound a bit cockney and rough and ready yet he was a million miles away from pulling it off
Sean Connery's Russian/Scottish accent in Hunt For Red October is one not to miss.
In four words, here is one accent you should have included on this video:
Don Cheadle - Ocean's Trilogy
A black American doing a very ill-fated attempt at sounding like one of those black Englishmen. In the videos I saw of him, he sounded like he was largely sticking to his native tongue with British pronunciations coming out later.
i thought Lohan did fine...? or am i just trippin
Every Greek character from the movies Troy and 300, because apparently a Mediterranean accent sounds exactly like a British one
Couple of things, firstly Tarantino's accent in 'Django Unchained' was done as a pastiche of American's in Australian 'Ozploitstion' films of the 70's and 80's. The two other (Australian) actors who who work for the mining company were in lots of those films too (think Razorback and Mad Max).
Secondly Anne Hathaway is doing a regional accent in 'One Day', its a Yorkshire accent and its a not bad at all. We don't all speak like Lawerence Oliver you know 😊
Going back to the 60s we have Tommy Steele playing an Irish Leprecaun in Finian's Rainbow. The director of this film followed this with The Godfather.
after seeing Mad Max Fury Road, I would put Tom Hardy on this list.
his accent was weird.
MrTelboy It is a wasteland out of nowhere. Accent be damned!
You can't blame the wasteland for losing his accent. Fury Road supposedly takes place between 2 and 3. How could he have an Australian accent in 1 and 2, lose the accent in Fury Road and then regain it in Beyond Thunderdome?
Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen in Avengers was pretty bad.
***** But what was their accent supposed to be? They were playing characters from a fictional country so they should have made up accents.
Matthew Mittlieder they were supposed to be middle eastern
Your next "Worst Accents" list needs to include Daryl Hannah's despicable Southern accent in "Steel Magnolias"!!
(I'd add Tom Skerritt, for the same movie, if he hadn't been so obviously going for laughs!)
Ugh, Jolie's accent made me wanna tear my ears off
OH kid Linsey Lohan is super cuteeeeeeeeeee
she shouldn't grow up really
Hawky Tang I was thinking the same thing, its too bad she grew up ;-P
Arnold' russian is just awful! I don't know what he was doing for 3 month, but he definitely can't speak Russian
This proves that Hollywood will hire anyone with a big name in the industry, no matter how good or bad their acting or accents are.
John Travolta's terrible accent in Killing Season was the only entertainment during the movie. I was cracking up!!!
I agree about Nick Cage, John Wayne, Quentin Tarantino, and Joe Pessi,
The rest I didn't have a problem with.
ziffulmyer Agree, but Arnie's didn't sound bad to you?
RckerMom87 meh ;)
hehe
+ziffulmyer John Wayne didn;t even bother with an Irish accent.
Russell Crowe in Robin Hood is god awful
I don't think Elysium could truly qualify for the list. It exists in a fictional setting in the future and thus isn't based on anything actually existing. You can't call something "bad" when you have no baseline for what is good. For all we know, Foster's character's accent is textbook for her region/upbringing in this setting.
To be truthful I’d assumed Tarantino’s accent in Django was deliberately bad.
Now do the same list except for non-American's trying to do American accents.
Every Jean Claud Van Damme movie ever.
Pocket Heart Most actors/actresses from across the pond can do commendable American accents. They can even speak with southern twang without you even realize it (look at True Blood for that). Walking Dead series is one example.
Brian Fantana And most here can do a good accent from elsewhere, but some still fail, and I've heard some bad shit. What's your point?
No one does a good american accent, I mean, they are so varied that you can pass, but if you're used to hearing the accent (either the original or the one they are mimicking) then you become horrified. Watching the walking dead is cringe worthy, and not because of the death, but because I hear Maggie and Rick speaking in pseudo southerner/british accents and my jeans shoot up into my throat
Emilia Clarke's American accent from Terminator Genesis was really bad
klutz395 I thought her valley girl one was pretty good
Does she not have an American accent in Game of Thrones? (I don't watch the show, before anyone goes mental)
mk6rfc1 no she uses her natural english accent
mk6rfc1 lol the only American actor they hired as a regular is peter Dinklage and his English accent is ok, not great.
I thought that Tarantino was doing an Aussie accent because he wanted to put John Jarrett in one of his movies.
How do you Soviets deal with all the tension and stress?
-Vodka.
Then I expected "Holly crap!"
Colin Farrell ultra fake blond hair is worse than any bad accent out there. THAT's outrageous >_
"Elysium (eh-lih-see-um) vs Elysium (ee-lee-zeeum)" the pronunciation from these hosts.
These actually get progressively more competent as the list goes on until you get to number one.
I'm a Brit and I like Lindsay Lohan's accent in The Parent Trap remake. I think she did a good job.
What the hell is wrong with these people
They never put
John Wayne's Mongolian accent in the conqueror where he plays Genghis khan and talks just like John Wayne
Don Cheedle doing a Cockney accent in the Oceans Trilogy (a la Dick Van Dyke)
Who was listening to Joe Pesci's accent? I couldn't stop staring at his hair.
Pesci was supposed to have a New Orleans accent in that movie? Da fuck?
YOU, UK people can talk all you want but you can never ever pull a proper southern Accent.
Replace every vowel with "ah" and elongate the words, simple
"Yugh shore god purdy teef Liddle laydee"
I'm american who watched true blood and the walking dead. Both of the main characters, bill Compton and rick grimes are both From England. They do such a good job you don't even realize they're not native.
TheSuperNats CORAL!!!
TheSuperNats Bil compton Southern accent was more of an victorian english southern accent from the 1800 and Rick Grimes and the Governor accent is terrible merl southern accent thats a real accent.
How did Tor Johnson's Swedish accent in Plan 9 From Outer Space not make it to this list or the earlier one? Ever since I heard it, I've been afraid that's how I sound when I speak English
what exactly is the point in faking an italian accent while playing the role of an italian guy in a movie in english?
moreover, while everybody else just speaks english in their accent... as they are supposed to be!
Tarantino sounded more suth effrikan than Aussie and Forest Whitaker nailed it I reckon.
lolol.... well, I'm glad when I understand what is said, no clue about accents ☺☺
Arnold just sounds like himself each and every time, it's iconic! 😂
Rooney Mara in "The girl with the dragon tattoo".
Should sound swedish, but sounds eastern european
So...you put Lindsey Lohan on here (a 12 year old with a pretty damn good fake accent) and willingly leave out Norman Reedus in Boondock Saints?
John Wayne from that Genghis Khan movie should have been number 1. Sounded like his normal drawl.
But John Wayne was from Iowa.
Sam Worthington in Avatar trying to pull off an American accent.
I actually pissed myself laughing at Quentin's aussie accent. I guess it could be bad because the whole film is basically taking the piss.
Jason Statham trying to imitate a Southern accent in Parker. Then again, his character was only pretending too.
Happy Canada Day, WatchMojo! :)
You're gonna list Red Heat and not even use the greatest line? "COCAINUM!"
where the hell is sharlot copley..em (that guy from distric 9) in maleficent
Am I crazy? The Parent Trap one seemed just fine, especially for a child actor?
I've never seen The Crying Game but Forest Whittakers accent seems fairly spot on... and I'm British. I literally heard no slips in the clips you showed
How about Liam Neeson in "leap of faith"? He is supposed to be a Kansas Sheriff, but he still has the thick Irish brogue.
